1.Surround reverb send in VEP7? 9/20/2020 1:24:00 PM

I would like to send a 5.1 surround positioned audio signal to a Surround Reverb plugin (Waves R360) but I am having trouble getting it to work according to my expectations.

It seems that all Aux.Sends in VEP are stereo-only and route only the first two channels of a surround instrument track to the send, even if the project track configuration is in surround and the receiving buss is in surround.

This is happening in a Standalone VEP7 5.1 surround project. All instrument channels are in surround and areequipped with VEP Surround panner. The Aux.Bus and Master Buss also display and sound fine as surround audio.

The problem is that it appears that all Aux.Sends are in stereo and route only the L-R from pair to an Aux.Buss, even if the track configuration is in surround.

I have discovered that if I set the Send to "Pre-Fader" , the VEP Surround Panner positions is ignored and the instrument send goes to all 5 channels of the reverent. But this isn't really what I want and has it's own problems.

Is it possible to have an "in-position" 5.1 Aux. Send in VEP?

thanks

2.Is it possible to use VE pro 7 and 6 on same machine? 5/13/2019 7:17:57 PM

I recently upgraded to VEP7 but would like to revert to VEP 6 (due to frequent crashes with VEP7) but when I try run VEP 6 I get the following message.  Note that it mentions a "Termination Reason:    DYLD, [0x1] Library missing".

How can I restore functionality to VEP6?

Thanks

3.SYNCHRON STRINGS vs. Old VSL strings Demos (what we were talking about...) 1/11/2018 11:36:51 AM

I can't really answer your question because wIth Synchron Percussion I've used only the Close mic, adding MIR for reverb. That way it mixed nicely with my other VSL instruments, and I had no problems with the baked-in reverb pulsating.

About the problem with "baked-in reverb" pulsations ...

If you or someone else has Synchron Percussion, is this a problem there at all?

Bruno in his post mention Synchron percussions. But I'm sorry I don't own them, just Synchron Strings. (My personal post was about strings indeed, sorry for being unclear), I have no experience with Synchron percussions, so maybe Bruno can comment about your question.

4.SYNCHRON STRINGS vs. Old VSL strings Demos (what we were talking about...) 1/9/2018 10:55:46 AM

Bravo, beautifully programmed. The use of Dimension strings for a small baroque ensemble is especially successful, IMO.

Do you ever find the 'bleed-through" of adjacent instruments in the Dim.Strings recordings to be problematic? I mean the slight phasing of the sound quality. How do you work around that?

The Synchron strings example shows the potential success and also the danger with the more careful &  extensive sampling employed. The performance has entered the "uncanny valley", familiar from modern computer animation, where the image is extremely lifelike but still clearly machine-driven. Perhaps more editing and performance nuance would clear that up in your demo.

I am familiar with this issue from years of playing the physically-modelled Yamaha VL instruments in live performance. Some sounds were extremely realistic and also had the full 128 level dynamic resolution of MIDI (unlike samples, which often have only 2,3, or 4 dynamic levels.) If the perfromance was too "linear", the machine character of the instrument would come through. I sense some of that in the Grieg demo.

Also, I'm not sure I like the baked-in reverb of Synchron on such busy music. The sound of the room seems to pulsate with the musical phrasing in a peculiar way, as if the room is coming and going with each dynamic nuance in the phrase. Maybe a layer of overall reverb from MIR would smooth it out? (I've been using Synchron drums, but only  the close mic, and adding MIR to blend it with the other VSL instruments.)

thanks

5.Woodwinds Getting Updated Anytime Soon!? 1/9/2018 10:44:21 AM

I agree that extensions to the existing libraries in the direction of "extended techniques" would be very welcome. Browsing through the "Special Effects" sections of Stiller's "Handbook of Instrumentation" would provide a fairly full list of such techniques. For example, for Flute, he lists:

harmonics

whistle tones

key slap

pop attack (I think this last one is included in VSL's full Flute 1)

However, the current trend with Synchron seems to be a more limited selection of articulations, but with wider, smoother dynamic range and of course the baked-in reverb. That in itself is mostly welcome but it would be nice if a broader range of articuations were also included.

[EDIT]

On this topic I think it would be good to add, for the brass, a wider selection of mutes would be really useful. CUp mute as well as striaght mute. And for the horns, more extensive stopped articualtions, as well as muted ones.

6.VE Pro licensing details 12/7/2016 2:27:07 PM

Sorry to question this since its probably been asked man times before, but I could not find a clear answer on the website or in the forum.

I would like to run VEPro 6 on two computers - my studio workstation and my laptop. I have the VEPro master installed and running on my workstation. Fantastic software, performs (nearly) flawlessly.

I know that I can run VEP Server on another computer simulataneously networked with this, but I would like to have VEP itself (not the server) running on my laptop for mobile use away from my studio. In case it matters, this is in order to use a 3rd party VST for live performance, not Vienna Instruments.

Is this possible with my current license? Or do I need to buy the VEPRo/Server multi-license package again in order to use it independantly of my studio?

In either case, I assume I will need to buy a second eLicenser dongle for the laptop. Is that correct?

Thanks in advance for an explanation, or a link to a web page that explains the VEPro licesing.

7.How to purchase Woodblock & Temple block instruments? 8/30/2016 3:40:43 PM

thanks for replying. Apparently the "sample contents" listed for this instrument is incorrect on the web page. Wood blocks & Temple Blocks are included only in a "Full instrument" purchase.

8.How to purchase Woodblock & Temple block instruments? 8/25/2016 7:15:55 PM

Still no satisfaction here for the wood blocks/temple blocks.

Although the Product Finder page for Xylophone

states that wood blocks and temple blocks (also lithophone and "Stir Xylo", whatever that is) are included in the download, none of these seem to actually be included.  Or am I looking in the wrong place in VIP (under "PATCH" and MATRIX)?

9.How to purchase Woodblock & Temple block instruments? 8/25/2016 6:29:34 PM

After some more searching in the Product Finder I found the woodblocks and temple blocks bundled with the Xylophone, which makes sense. Sort of.

Now I'm looking for the cowbell instrument as a download separate from the "Percussion Complete" set.  Does anyone know where they might be hidden?

thanks!

10.How to purchase Woodblock & Temple block instruments? 8/25/2016 6:16:19 PM

I'd like to purchase the woodblock and/or temple block instruments, which are listed in the complete percussion, but I cannot find them mentioned in the "Product Finder".

Is it possible to purchase these as download instruments without having to buy the "Percussion Complete"?

thanks

Bruno

11.Grainger - Children's March VSL 7/27/2016 11:33:46 AM

Beautifully done. Well balanced orchestra. Very convincing perfronace. The only part that gave away it's digital roots is the 32nd WW runs at 4:15, which sound just too perfect. Maybe a bit of humanzation, esp. on the timing, would help? Funny, interesting and rather peculiar composition, typical of Grainger. Thanks for posting.

12.Transposing Trick / Dimension Violins issue 1/20/2016 11:49:28 PM

I'm interested in getting this to work properly too.  It would be great if there was a way to implement the transposition entirely within VIPro, without using the pitchbend control.

Perhaps someone on the VI Staff can desribe the recommended method for getting a 2nd Violins from Dimension Strings?

13.How to add more than 12 matrixes in a preset? 12/12/2015 1:07:18 AM

Thanks for clarifying.

14.How to add more than 12 matrixes in a preset? 12/11/2015 11:13:10 PM

Thanks for replying Paul.  Is the manual then incorrect? If so, is the Matrix List  limited to  12 items ? Must I purchase VI Pro to get more than 12?

thanks

Bruno

15.How to add more than 12 matrixes in a preset? 12/11/2015 10:10:17 PM

Hi

I searched the forums but couldn;'t find an answer to this question.

According to the manual for Vienna Instruments (not Pro),

"One Preset can consist of up to 127 Matrices that can be accessed by Keyswitches or program changes."

However, I cannot add a matrix beyond 12 to my preset.

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

thanks

Bruno
