1.Scripted Kontakt2 programs available! 8/9/2010 4:29:45 PM

Christian--I'd like to get Kontakt side-licenses for all of my Horizon series products too, if that's possible.  How would I go about doing that?

The Horizon products I have are: Solo Strings, Chamber Strings, Saxophones 1, Epic Horns, Vienna Harps, Overdrive, Concert Guitar, Woodwind Ensembles, French Oboe

2.KONTAKT 4.1 (64bit) DOESNT SHOW UP IN VE Pro (64bit) ? 7/6/2010 9:13:17 AM

Not solved for me either.

3.VE Pro Standalone + Kontakt 3.5 at 48k? 6/17/2010 2:46:07 AM

My apologies for the absolutely rudimentary question, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to run VE Pro in Standalone mode at 48k with Kontakt 3.5!

I've got it installed on a Mac Mini slave, running 10.5 with an Audiofire 2 interface.  Here's what happens:

1) I set up the Audiofire to run at 48k

2) I fire up a .viframe that contains a single instance of Kontakt 3.5.

3) I get an error message, and VE Pro switches over to 44.1

What am I missing here?  Anyone have any ideas?

(BTW, I should mention that I'm trying to run this standalone because lately the server version has been crashing inexplicably, and I want to set up a hardware-audio backup, as I have a film starting up soon.  But my troubles running Server are enough for another thread altogether, I think.)

4.Scripted Kontakt2 programs available! 5/30/2010 12:39:32 AM

Hi Christian!

I just stumbled across this thread myself.

I'm also a registered user of a number of Horizon products for Giga format.  Now that Giga is defunct, though, I want to migrate all my samples over to Kontakt.  Would it be possible for me also to get Kontakt files for all my libraries as well?  I manually converted them all, however, as you know the Legato instruments aren't working.  So really, assuming the sample directory structure is consistent, all I need are the NKI files.

Do let me know.  Thanks!  (Been a charter owner of VSL since the first edition.)

Best,

Christopher Tin

PS: The libraries I own are Solo Strings, Chamber Strings, Saxophones 1, Epic Horns, Vienna Harps, Overdrive, Concert Guitar, Woodwind Ensembles, French Oboe

5.UAD 2 and VEPro 4/21/2010 11:56:27 PM

The UAD plugins are great--I tend to use them in lieu of the Logic plugins whenever possible, since I like the idea of a dedicated DSP running the CPU-intensive stuff, like reverbs.  (Their Plate 140 reverb is fantastic.)

I have three VE Pro slaves, and one of them doubles as a PT HD3 system, so the prospect of getting UAD cards for each one is really not all that thrilling to me.

And on a side note, for those who are curious, I've been running PT on a slave machine side by side with VE Pro, with no problems.

6.UAD 2 and VEPro 4/21/2010 5:02:54 PM

Sorry, I think I misunderstood you.  I'm guessing you're wondering whether I'm using UAD with the slave computer of my VE Pro setup?  The answer is, I haven't tried, since my UAD card is used in the Master.

7.UAD 2 and VEPro 4/21/2010 8:19:38 AM

Using both.  What do you need to know about them?

8.Ve Pro Stalling 2/20/2010 8:10:43 PM

Interesting... I'll try that.  Thanks Paul!

9.Ve Pro Stalling 2/20/2010 12:12:18 AM

I have been experiencing some problems with VE Pro crashing when slaving to multiple computers. Currently, I am on build 4881. All of my computers are running on this build. Some of my samples are hosted on a Mac Pro octocore, others are hosted on a pair of Mac Minis, and my DAW is hosted on a Mac Pro octocore as well. When I instantiate the VE Pro server, connecting only to one of the machines (e.g., the octocore or the mini), the sample plays fine. But when I load both the slave octocore and a mac mini, and attempt to instantiate the VE Pro Server on my main octocore, my DAW (Logic 9.1) freezes, and none of the instances on either machine will show up. The same problem has occurred with builds 4686 and 4834.

Is the VE Pro server incompatible with multiple machines (octocore versus mini)? Or is there a limit to how many instances the server will read (I have 18 possible instances running on my slave octocore and 9 possible instances on my mac mini).

Thanks in advance for your help.

10.[SOLVED] VE Pro Build 4416 viframes incompatible with 4686? 1/14/2010 2:11:38 AM

Thanks so much! That solved it.

11.[SOLVED] VE Pro Build 4416 viframes incompatible with 4686? 1/13/2010 8:22:11 PM

Quick question: we built a metaframe with 8 instances of VE Pro in build 4416. We then updated to build 4686, but then found that our 4416 viframes and metaframe wouldn't load. Is there a way to import 4416 viframes into the 4686 build?

Thanks for your help!

12.VE Pro slows down basic functions of Logic! - SOLVED 1/11/2010 8:08:56 AM

Ahah!  I found the Decoupling button, clicked it, and it worked great.  Thanks, DG--well reasoned, and well solved.  Props to you.

13.VE Pro slows down basic functions of Logic! - SOLVED 1/11/2010 4:21:47 AM

Ah!  Interesting.  Now we're on to something.  Yes, I thought you had meant 'disconnect'.  I'm not sure what this discoupling feature is... where would I find it?

14.VE Pro slows down basic functions of Logic! - SOLVED 1/11/2010 12:19:00 AM

Because I can't work with VE Pro decoupled.  VE Pro is running all my samples from my slave to my master, so what you're saying doesn't make any sense.  If I work with VE Pro decoupled, then I don't hear any samples being played.  And recoupling it before I save the project makes no sense either.  Did you mean the reverse?

Even if you did mean the reverse, that still doesn't solve the core issue here.  VE Pro, when instantiated, creates a slowdown of some of Logic's base functions.  I'm hoping someone from VSL will chime in and let me know if this is a known issue.

15.VE Pro slows down basic functions of Logic! - SOLVED 1/10/2010 11:09:55 PM

Yes, decoupling the instances means that I don't get the spinning beach ball when I try to save the file or delete a track in my arrange window.  As I said before, the problem lessens the fewer coupled instances I have.

But that's not the point.  If that just means that I have to decouple every instance of VE Pro every time I want to do something routine, like save my session or delete a track in the arrange window, that's not really a practical solution.

16.VE Pro slows down basic functions of Logic! - SOLVED 1/10/2010 9:18:50 PM

No... but I shouldn't have to, right?  Likewise, it gives me a spinning beach ball every time I try to delete a MIDI track in my Logic arrange window.

I've noticed, though, that the fewer instances I have open, the less this becomes a problem.

17.VE Pro slows down basic functions of Logic! - SOLVED 1/10/2010 7:41:52 PM

Hi there,

I've noticed a significant slowdown in Logic when VE Pro is running on my slave computer.  Here's what I have

Master Computer:

Logic 9.02

Octocore 2.8

16 GB RAM

8 Instances of VE Pro

Slave Computer:

Octocore 2.8

8 GB of RAM (3.7 used for samples)

8 Instances of VE Pro, each hosting a single instance of Kontakt 3.5

When the Master is connected to the Slave, they both seem to slow each other down.  I get a lot of spinning beachballs every time I try to save my Logic session, or every time I try to delete any MIDI or audio tracks in Logic.  What's going on here?  Anyone else getting this?

Great software, nevertheless.... just hoping that we can iron out some of the kinks.

18."Up to 512 MIDI channels per instance?" How do we achieve this? 11/4/2009 8:15:29 PM

Hmm, that's rather disappointing.

For those of us in Logic, are there any clever workarounds?  For example, can we use something like MidiOverLAN to send additional channels of MIDI to the slave computer, and somehow configure the VE Pro Slave to accept these additional MIDI signals?

19."Up to 512 MIDI channels per instance?" How do we achieve this? 11/4/2009 6:49:19 PM

Hey VSL gurus,

I recently re-watched that intro video, and it distinctly says that 'up to 512 MIDI channels per instance' are available.

However, as far as I can tell, if you want to use VE Pro in Server mode to send audio over LAN, you're actually limited to just 16 MIDI channels per instance.

Can someone tell me what setup I would need to be able to achieve this much-coveted 512 channel-per-instance setup?

Thank you!

Chris

PS: I'm on Logic 9, OS 10.5

20.Can VE Pro receive program change messages? 11/4/2009 6:13:55 PM

I too have been trying to figure out whether it's possible to get more than 16 MIDI channels out of one instance.  The preferences dialogue in VE Pro Server don't seem to affect how many MIDI channels each *instance* seems to have.

Can anyone from VSL help shed some light on the matter?

21.The template building thread - VE Pro 11/3/2009 10:09:03 PM

Hi Christophertin

Why do you this "splitting up"? I often have up to 10-12 different articulations per instrument. For  15 Instruments (Chamber Orchestra) it means around 150 tracks?

How to keep the overview?

Best

Beat Kaufmann

It's just the way I'm used to working.  I started doing this back in the days of Roland and E-Mu samplers, before keyswitches came about.  It makes life easier for orchestrators, too.

And besides, in any given piece, I rarely have more than 5 or 6 articulations for each instrument, and I don't always use every instrument.  It's really not all that messy.

22.The template building thread - VE Pro 11/3/2009 7:50:48 AM

Ah, good point.  So then the advantage of say, having 4 Minis with 4 GBs of RAM each, as opposed to one Octocore with 16 Gigs, would be that the 4 Minis would load up in the quarter of the time.  Interesting point.

It also sounds like you're using a lot of keyswitched instruments and such too.  I personally like having every articulation on a different track.  Right now I've got 8 Gigas, each with a 64 track template--that equates to 512 instruments loaded.  So for example, I have 4 different Espressivo Strings tracks, 4 different Staccato Strings, etc, 2 pizzicatos, etc.

However, since each instance of VE Pro is limited to just 16 channels, unless I want to have 32 audio instruments in Logic corresponding to 32 instances of VE Pro on farm computers, I need to find a better way to route all my audio.

23.The template building thread - VE Pro 11/3/2009 7:26:54 AM

Fascinating!  Yes, that's how I like to have it set up too.  A massive template with all my instruments preloaded onto separate tracks, so everything's easily recallable without load times.

So how many instruments altogether are you able to get in your template then?  I counted 10 instances... maxed out, does that mean 160 loaded instruments?

I'm about to reconfigure my studio, and am trying to decide whether there's some strategic advantage in going with a farm of Minis, as opposed to a few Octocore towers.

24.The template building thread - VE Pro 11/3/2009 12:29:15 AM

This is impressive.  So you're running everything on one machine, right?

And also, forgive my noob question, but does each instance just have 16 instruments on it?  Or is there a way to have more than just 16 MIDI channels per instance?

I'm about to dive into creating a VE Pro template, and just looking for some guidelines about limitations before I do.

25.VE Pro... some basic configuration questions 10/31/2009 12:37:05 AM

Hi there,

Sorry for the basic setup questions, but I didn't quite find the answer I was looking for in searching the forums, and the manual PDF didn't seem to address my issues.

I'm planning on running instances of VE Pro on multiple slave computers, controlled via a Master running Logic 9.  So far, I'm able to link up a single instance of VE Pro on my slave, running a single Kontakt instrument, with a single VE Pro AU plugin on Logic--so in other words, I've got 16 channels of MIDI working.

However, my end goal is to max out each of these slaves with the full 512 instruments (or however many my RAM can handle).  What's the basic setup for doing this?  Do I:

1) create a single instance of VE Pro with 32 Kontakt instruments loaded, each with 16 MIDI channels?  or

2) create 32 instances of VE Pro, each with a single 16-channel Kontakt instrument loaded?

If the answer is #1, then how do I control the MIDI for each of these 512 instruments?  And if the answer is #2, then does that mean that I have to have 32 software instruments loaded up in Logic, each with a VE Pro Instrument loaded that's connected to one of the corresponding 32 instances in VE Pro Server?

Thanks in advance for pointing me in the right direction.  Best,

Christopher Tin
