2.Any opinions on AMD Threadripper 3960X? 10/28/2020 1:29:18 PM

Hi there.

I'm about to get rid of my two slaves and replace them by a  PC with AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3960X loaded with 256 GB RAM. The other choice would be an i9 10980XE. Do you guys have an idea about how they compare? Which one would you recommend?

Thanx!!!

Hi there.

Don't know if this has been posted before, but cannot find the two timestretching patches seen in the tutorial video posted by Paul. Using the latest Synchron Player.

Screen capture attached.

Thanks

Hi labman. I have the upgrade but haven't installed it yet. Hope to do it soon.

Menawhile you can check this video. Steve Steele is a very reliable guy and he uses DP.

Cheers!

@Roberto D:

Sample Location: You can store the data wherever you like. In Synchron Player, sample location management is done in Preferences => Database. Moving the VI sample content to a backup drive is a good idea, this way you can always move data around when needed.

Best,
Paul

Hi Paul

Do they have to be installed in the same computer as the VI version?

My SE libraries are installed in a slave that is running out of space and don't want to add an extre SSD. I wonder if I can install the syncronized version on a different computer.

Thanx!!!

10.Pro Tools 12, VE Pro 6 and High CPU 2/22/2019 10:20:42 AM

As I stated, once I have VE Pro and Pro Tools up and running my CPU usage can be very high. What I discovered today is if I go into VE Pro and disable a few channels, the CPU usage is drastically reduced. An example today is the CPU usage was around 1700% and after randomly disabling 4 channels the CPU usage went down to around 400%. If I then turn around and re-enable the channels the CPU usage remains low. I tried this out 3 times and every single time I saw the same behavior.

I have no explanation for this but I wanted to add this information in case it helps someone to help me.

This is something to do with mac OSX. I run into this problem anytime. I'm on Digital peformer 9.5 and 10. As jmgotsoul and others pointed in this forum, some channels must be disabled and then enabled to make it work without reaching a massive percentage of usage. This problem only happens when the DAW connects the VEP template. Otherwise the percentage is low. And as I said before, it only happens in Mac. My Windows server doesn't need to have channels disabled/enabled.

It's not a big deal. Load VEP template(s), launch DAW, disable/enable a few channels in your VEP and then you're ready to go. I need to do this every time I open different projects, but working with preserved instances this workaround only takes less than a minute or so.

11.How to access MIDI PORT 2 of VEP from Logic 2/14/2019 7:24:51 PM

Please, excuse me if it sounded I was criticising your environment. I cannot talk about something I haven't tried. Bear in mind English is not my mother tongue so maybe I didn't explain myself properly. I do apologize.

I was talking about the one provided by VSL which, even though is good, is not as useable as other workarounds.

I've been korking with Logic since version 3 and I used to love that program. However every update I've installed seems more focused on EDM and other type of music more than film composing, where DP shines, at least to me. Don't misunderstand me. I've done quite a few film scores with Logic and was able over the years to accomodate it to my workflow. If the VST3 issue were resolved before, I'd still be composing with Logic.

No DAW is perfect. It's juts a matter of enjoying their goods and stand their bads

12.How to access MIDI PORT 2 of VEP from Logic 2/14/2019 4:19:59 PM

The AU protocol is a real PITA in Logic. Even with the enviroment workaround (which is not fully functional), you still get a limited number of outputs from VEP. That's why I gave up.

As Dewdman says, there is always Cubase. And other options too. I went for Digital Performer. MAS protocol is rock solid and allows to have not 32 but 48 MIDI ports from each instance. Not bad for huge templates.

Hope u can get your issue resolved soon

13.VEP6 and DP10 2/14/2019 10:34:23 AM

Still testing here. So far so good. DP10 opens my 9.52 documents with no problems and everything runs smooth and easy. I guess I'll find some issues at some point but as of today, everything is fine.

As I'm adding a new computer to my rig, I'm creating a new template from scratch but not with DP10 but 9.52 just in case anything goes wrong. People at motunation are not reporting problems either AFAIK.

14.RAM usage with purged samples 1/17/2019 9:58:31 AM

Are u using Mac or Windows?

This makes a huge difference for me. Purging in my Windows slave does reduce the amount of RAM used. In my Mac Pro (master) it makes no difference at all. I don't know why.

I use disable channels instead. That's the only way  I can reduce both RAM and CPU resources.

15.Help Needed! Network Configuration: Do I need a Switch?? 11/10/2018 12:47:33 PM

I have a similar setup as yours. Just similar. Here's what I do:

I connect my MacPro to my router from one port and connect to my windows slave using the other one. I have static IPs on both computers. Gigabit ethernet is enough. You don't need 10GB.

With this setup I only have internet in my MacPro. Whenever I need to update software on my slave I just plug a wifi usb dongle, since this computer doesn't have wifi built in. If you want to have "cabled" internet on both computers, you need a gigabit switch. Most of the available switches will do the job.

16.RAM usage way too high 11/9/2018 9:15:22 PM

What I mean by "unload" is actually disabling channels from the left column. Purging samples never worked for me on my MacPro. It does work on my windows slave.

Anyway... I guess I'll have to install the latest VEP version at some point but I'm in serious doubt it will fix my problems. I'll be adding another computer to my studio soon and this MacPro will become a slave, so probably the wiser solution will be running Windows via Parallels or BootCamp on it and then running VEP.

Thanks for your answer!

I didn't know that fact. However it seems that Windows handles RAM in a much more efficient way. If I unload an instrument in my Windows slave (let's say 200MB) the task manager reveals 200 more mb available. In other words, what is shown in Kontak is what it really pulls out from the system. No more, no less.

Thank you anyway, Fabio :)

18.RAM usage way too high 11/9/2018 3:19:19 PM

Hi there.

I'm experiencing a high RAM usage in my MacPro 2012 with 64GB.

I'm creating a new temlate and so far I have one instance of VEP with 5 Kontakt instruments. The total amount used shoud be around 800MB according to the Kontak plugin but the activity monitor reports 1,64GB.

Also, in another template with about 50 to 60 instrument tracks (Omnisphere and Kontak), the CPU usage goes up to 500-600%. I have to unload 2 or 3 instruments and then turn them back on to lower the CPU usage up to 140-160%. This template is also having a high RAM usage.

I'm using DP 9.5 and VEP 6.0.16778 and running everything from SSDs

Are these normal bahaviours? Is anyone experiencing something similar?

Thanks!!

19.DAW volume much lower than VEP volume 1/31/2018 8:52:17 AM

I guess it's something to do with DP.

I've been using Logic Pro for ages until I decided swichting to DP 9.5. Since then I have the same issue. I'm on Mac.

20.Can't get more than 32 audio outputs. HELP!! 11/1/2017 5:10:27 PM

Thanks again Paul.

Actually that's the way I'm working now (6x16 template with 32 outs each). I just wanted to use 2x48  in order to simplify routing inside Logic. We Logic users are really looking forward to having the AU3 implemented ASAP. No pressure intended, he he.

Thanks a lot!!

21.Can't get more than 32 audio outputs. HELP!! 11/1/2017 4:30:26 PM

Hi Paul.

Thanks a lot for your quick reply.

I guess there is nothing to do besides moving to a different DAW

22.Can't get more than 32 audio outputs. HELP!! 11/1/2017 11:23:45 AM

Sorry if this question has been answered before. I've been looking around the forum and haven't found a clear answer.

I'm using logic multiport template, either 2x48 and 6x16, and the maximum number of audio outs I get is 32. I've changed everything in both the host and the server and when I restart I get the same 32 outputs limit. Is this number audio hardware dependant?

Here are my specs:

Master Mac Pro 2012 12 core, 32 RAM, OS 10.11.6

Slave i7 3930K, 32 RAM, Windows 7

MOTU 828MKII (Kinda old but does its job. Maybe this is the bottleneck)

Logic Pro 10.2.4

Any help will be greatly appreciated :)

If you have any particular questions about how the MAS support works or looks, I'd be glad to answer. Basically though, it's similar to how you'd imagine it looks and works in Cubase under VST3. When I opened my template today I saw all of the MIDI ports and channels like in the image from my earlier post above (the "VSL Winds" menu are all the ports and then the sub-menus are the channels for one instance of VEPro).

Thanx for your answer and help, nightwatch

I'm glad to know there's a new way for DP users to work. Guess it's time to find some spare time, download the demo and start messing around with it.  By the way, a video would be awesome

Thanks a lot!!
