1.Using the Resonance Menus in Vienna Suite Pro 5/17/2020 10:57:33 AM

Makes sense. Thank you!

2.Using the Resonance Menus in Vienna Suite Pro 5/16/2020 8:20:18 PM

Hello,

I'm confused on how to use the resonance menu presets in the equalizer section of Vienna Suite Pro. The resonance presets are not activated by default and you have to click on each section for activation. The manual says that they filter out unwanted resonances.

For example, one of the English Horn resonance menus has 8 numbers running across the horizontal bar and you have to activate each of them. What is the best practice? Should I activate all of them? I'm just not sure which sections I should activate. I'm really not able to hear a difference no matter which ones I select.

Thank you,

John Swearingen

3.The Effect of CC11 when Using Velocity Cross-Fading 1/27/2020 1:20:50 PM

Got it. This all makes sense. And yes, as John pointed out, it's velocity that is deactivated and not CC11.

4.The Effect of CC11 when Using Velocity Cross-Fading 1/26/2020 7:44:00 PM

Hi Everyone,

I'm coming back to using VSL after a bit of a hiatus and am trying to remember the relationship between expression (CC11) and how the velocity cross-fade works.

I'm using a legato appasionata violin patch that contains 4 velocity layers and want to use cross-fading. I have set CC28 to it's max value. CC28 turns the cross-fading on. I'm then using CC2 to perfrom the actual velocity cross-fading. It seems to work just fine. As I increase CC2, the violins increase in both volume and intensity. However, I noticed that the CC11 controller for expression still alters the overall volume of the patch.

I thought that when you activate cross-fade (CC28), expression (CC11) gets automatically deactivated so that any CC11 changes won't have any effect and you just use CC2 to vary the cross-faded volume. Isn't this the way it is supposed to work? I'm confused why the CC11 controller still varies the volume.

Help!!

5.Basic Instructions for Setting up a Template With Cubase, VI Pro & VE Pro 5/23/2019 10:37:01 AM

Thank you! These look like great tutorial videos. I will definitely check them out!

6.Basic Instructions for Setting up a Template With Cubase, VI Pro & VE Pro 5/22/2019 11:22:41 AM

Hi Everyone,

Are there any good articles/instructions out there that are specific to setting up an orchestral template using Cubase, VI Pro and VE Pro?

I'd be very grateful if you could point me in the right direction.

Thank you,

Corte

7.Oceans of the Earth 8/5/2017 11:41:58 PM

This piece is a movement from my composition "The Seven Wonders of the Cosmos" and uses VSL instruments exclusively. I'm so appreciative to have VSL!

I'm so thanksful to have found VSL back when I started making mockups of my compositions. They are amazing. Below is a link to my latest composition - The Grand Canyon. It uses 100% VSL instruments.

10.Rise of the Wild (MIRx demo 2) 8/27/2013 12:29:18 PM

Hey Guy,

I love the atmosphere of this piece. Your string work is fabulous as is the use of small crescendos and dimenuendos - nice. Pretty harmonically sophisticated piece and good build up of tension. I also like how you use the entire orchestra, but not all at once - it makes things very interesting to listen to - you want to listen just to foind out what happens next.

11.Quickly Swapping Out Different MIR Pro Presets 8/11/2013 4:28:29 PM

Great - Thanks, Dietz. I'll give these a try.

12.Quickly Swapping Out Different MIR Pro Presets 8/10/2013 10:04:55 PM

Sorry - yes, the different venue presets with the various mic positions, ect. I have a lot of older productions using cubase and VEPro 5 where I have used Vienna Suite and not MIR Pro. I'd like to disable the Vienna Suite settings and swap in different venue presets to see if I can find a MIR venue preset that improves the overall sound.

Thanks.

13.Quickly Swapping Out Different MIR Pro Presets 8/10/2013 2:28:36 PM

Hello,

Maybe this is a simple question, but is there any way to easily swap out and change to different MIR Pro presets from within VEPro 5? I use Cubase along with VEPro 5 and with past projects I have, I'd like to somehow quickly try some of the different presets that have been made available.

Thanks,

Corte

14.Symphonic Composition Using all VSL 8/9/2013 1:33:07 AM

Hey Guy,

Yeah, I hear what you're saying. I'll work on varying the attacks a bit. I tend to use the same patch over and over again which can certainly get tiresome after a bit.

Thanks for listening and thanks for the suggestion!

15.Symphonic Composition Using all VSL 8/7/2013 11:56:30 PM

I appreciate everyone's comments - thanks.

Kanon - While I have MIR, I still just can't seem to get it to work well for me. By that, I simply mean I putter around with it and change setting after setting after setting, but still can't get the quality of sound I can get from the Vienna Suite (for my ears). For this piece, I just used the Vienna Suite and Beat Kaufmann's orchestral presets, which position all the instruments, apply the proper EQ, depth, compression and reverb. I didn't tweak Beat's presets at all - they were just perfect for this piece. It saved me a lot of time. They aren't that expensive and you can purchase them on his site (Just for the record, I have no affiliation with Beat - I just like his stuff).

16.Symphonic Composition Using all VSL 8/2/2013 2:23:00 AM

Thanks Beat & Hetoreyn,

Hetoryen - I used to listen to all your VSL podcasts and learned a lot from them, so thank you for your comments.

Beat - I used your orchestral templates and presets for all the mixing. The presets really made my life easier.

I'd also like to thank Guy Bacos for encouraging me a few years ago when I was first starting mockups and by providing some tips I still use to this day.

18.Have You Used Sibelius Sound Sets and Standalone Version of VIPro Simultaneously? 4/7/2013 3:52:32 PM

Hi DG,

Is it just a matter of downloading and installing ASIO4All? Once I install that driver, it should work ok??

19.Have You Used Sibelius Sound Sets and Standalone Version of VIPro Simultaneously? 4/3/2013 2:02:54 PM

Ok, Andi - thanks for the reply!

20.Have You Used Sibelius Sound Sets and Standalone Version of VIPro Simultaneously? 4/2/2013 4:25:43 PM

Hello,

I'm using Sibelius along with the VSL sound sets (using VEPro as a VST instrument within Sibelius) and everything works fine. However, I was wanting to open the standalone version of VIPro so that I can use it with my keyboard to try things out before notating them into Sibelius. I can open a standalone version of VIPro ok and it will work with my keyboard, but when I make the notations into Sibelius and try to play it back, Sibelius freezes when I hit the playback button and I have to shut it down.

Any idea if there is a way to get this configuration to work? Thanks for any help you can provide.

21.Which Do You Prefer - Vienna Suite or MIR? 2/13/2013 11:32:50 PM

Yes, I have Roompack 2. I actually love the sound of the Schubertsaal.

And thanks Dietz - your suggestions were spot on - I was quickly able to make some adjustments to find a setting that has really brought things to life. Thanks for the great tips! For me, the "M/S Stero with Cardioid M" mic worked quite well.

22.Which Do You Prefer - Vienna Suite or MIR? 2/12/2013 7:24:55 PM

Hi Everyone,

I have both MIR and Vienna Suite. I write larger orchestral works and while I love being able to position my instruments on the stage using MIR, I find that I typically prefer the final sound I can achieve with just the Vienna Suite. I find that MIR's sound is a bit to distant. I've tried moving the main microphone (and secondary microphone) almost on top of the orchestra and lowering the total reverb, but no matter what hall I choose or how I reposition and tweak, I find the Vienna Suite allows me to achieve a "closer" and more intimate sound and I end up turning off MIR and just using Vienna Suite.

Does anyone feel the same way?

I'm sure if I knew more of the technical aspects of MIR, I could better get to the final sound I want, but so far, my ears prefer the reverbs of Vienna Suite as opposed to MIR.

23.MIR and DAW on a single PC 11/12/2012 10:52:19 PM

I have a $600 computer I bought off the shelf at Best Buy. It has an i5 processor. I put in 16gb of Ram, but otherwise, no other upgrades have been done. I have MIR 24, Cubase, Vienna Suite and a bunch of full DVD libraries and everything works fine. You don't need a super computer to run this stuff.

25.Boats Leaving the Harbor 8/29/2012 7:25:11 PM

Here's a simple piece I wrote based on Monet's "Boats Leaving the Harbor." It uses all VSL instruments. The strings are the Appassionatas.
