1.YAY: SYNCHRON-ized Plucked Instruments! 2/21/2020 7:55:21 AM

Hi Lars,

there was a mistake in my calculation of the datasize. Everything's fine with your installation! Sorry for the trepidation.

The discrepancy between Mac and PC is probably owing to their different file systems, I guess.

Kind regards,
David Ender

2."perf. legato slur" 5/7/2018 11:11:35 AM

Dear Alan,

you are right on both counts! The slurred legatos have a less pronounced sliding effect than the portamentos, but are also a bit "sloppily" executed compared with the standard legatos. Alas, they are not included in the manuals because they were added as a kind of bonus at a later date ...

Kind regards,
David Ender / VI Manuals

3.Velocity Layers in VI_Woodwinds_1_Manual_v2.pdf 7/10/2017 6:23:00 AM

Hi Stefan,

you're right of course, the layer information is missing in some manuals because it is largely redundant ... In other manuals I included a table of the general layout of velocity layers that applies to most instruments. Here it is:

2 layers: 0-88, 89-127
3 layers: 0-55, 56-88, 89-127
4 layers: 0-55, 56-88, 89-108, 109-127
5 layers: 0-55, 56-88, 89-108, 109-118, 119-127

6 and more layers mostly apply to percussion instruments where the differences in timbre are more pronounced.

I will try and remember to include the general layer information whenever there are any manual updates!

Kind regards,
David Ender / VI Manuals

4.Woodwinds I & II Standard are missing sample content listed on the website 2/23/2017 3:02:58 PM

Hi,

sorry about the confusion! This is a database issue we haven't been able to resolve yet. For congruity reasons the website shows the slightly different sample content of the Single Instrument Downloads also on the Collection page. We're trying to find a solution. The PDF Collection manuals show the proper sample content.

Apologies and kind regards,
David

5.Question about Historic Winds I 2/13/2017 9:03:06 AM

Dear David,

I'm very sorry, that was a mistake on my part when I entered the Serpent's sample content for the web page. Obviously I copied the content from another instrument and forgot to delete what wasn't there, including not only the cres-dim but also trills and fast repetitions ... The instrument manuals normally contain the right information, so in case of doubt one should trust them rather than our website.

The mistake has been corrected, it now displays the proper content of the serpent.

Btw, there's nothing wrong with your English!

Kind regards, David

6.Dimension strings questions 6/16/2015 3:18:56 PM

Hi, on the Sample Content page the information on harmonics was missing for the violins. This is now corrected.

8.Clarinet runs...Woodwinds I...Standard? 10/4/2010 10:30:28 AM

Hi,

sorry for the confusion - there was a mistake in the listing. Alas, scale runs are never part of a Collection's Standard Edition ... I've corrected the entry and hope there won't be any other errors.

Kind regards,

Hi, sorry for the missing downloads - there were wrong IDs assigned to the files. It's working now!

Have fun,

11."Problems I have with Solo Strings" 2/14/2010 5:28:11 PM

Hi Oceanview,

thanks, your suggestion is certainly worth thinking about - only it's a capacity problem. Gathering together the info is no mean task, and I confess that at least at the moment it seems too much to handle to me. But how about opening up a "Work-arounds" thread? If people contribute to that, it would be easier for me to edit, publish and regularly update a .pdf containing all those user tips & tricks - much easier than reading through thousands of pages Wink. (I did that once and it was really hard work. Only the forum contained about a 5th of what it does now.)

Kind regards,

David Ender / VSL manuals

12.No Trills in Horn Ensemble 2/14/2010 5:00:36 PM

Hi,

my apologies! It's true that this was a mistake in the manual as well as on the horn ensemble's sample content page; the age of copy&paste can be wearisome at times. I've corrected the entries, but I wish there were indeed trills in the package ... Hope this won't happen again.

Kind regards,

David Ender / VSL manuals

13."Problems I have with Solo Strings" 2/7/2010 1:20:48 PM

Hi guys,

first of all I want to say that I'm very sorry - there was indeed a mistake in the sample content descriptions (which I obviously wasn't aware of). The Solo Strings Standard Library only contains staccato and sustained notes of artifical harmonics, all other harmonics articulations are part of the Extended Library.

I'd like to apologize for any inconvenience caused by that error. It's not always easy to keep track of all the samples ...

Kind regards,
David Ender / VSL manuals

14.A few content problems on the site 12/3/2008 6:39:58 PM

Hi Gisbourne,

thank you for the information - the bad links on the Bundles page as well as the Special Edition stuff are now repaired, the "forum" problem may take a bit longer ...

Kind regards,

David

15.VSL registration with cubase steinberg key 1/23/2008 9:05:15 PM

Hello,

first you have to download and install the latest LCC by Syncrosoft if you haven't done so already. After that, you can download the Special Edition license onto your Steinberg key - there's a PDF manual called Vienna Key Information which will guide you through it in our user area. On the same page, you can also download the latest version of the Vienna Instruments software and another PDF manual for that. The software also installs the VI Library Installer which you need to install the Library. Start the Installer and guide it to the first installation DVD to open the file "package.info" there. Then follow the installer's directions to put the Library onto a harddisk of your choice ...

David Ender

17.VI application won't run !?!?!? 8/15/2007 10:31:31 PM
Hello Vince,

welcome to Vienna! I think we would need some more info before we can give you meaningful answers - but here's a few questions for a start:

Installation went o.k., it seems, apart from the time it takes ... so you registered your product and also activated the syncrosoft key. The ViennaKey is safely inserted in one of your USB ports.

- Are you trying to run the stand-alone VI software, or to load the VST/AU in your sequencer?
- Have you selected the instrument folders you want to use with the Directory Manager? If yes, try selecting only a single instrument at first.
- Maybe downloading and installing the latest software from our user area will do the trick.

If none of these helps, please give us a description of your computer setup, we might be able to tell you more then.

Kind regards,
David

18.Strange Performance Tool issues 8/15/2007 8:48:12 AM
Hi Emlyn,

sorry to hear that you didn't get along with my manual so well - I certainly tried to make it understandable ...

If you would like to point out the passages where you were stumped, please send me a mail or private message so that I can integrate your suggestions.

20.Translate Perf set to K2? 8/15/2007 8:15:19 AM
Hi Joe,

as far as I know, it has been tried - however, the attempts were unsuccessful ... I believe that the money you could earn in the time it takes to convert the Giga Performances to K2 would be quite enough to buy a few VIs [Wink]

There are no perf-détachés for the violin ensemble.

I'm not a K2 user myself, but of course it works with the PerfTool. As far as I know, there's also some built-in performance algorithms. (If I'm wrong, I hope a K2 user will correct me. Surpriseops: )

Kind regards,
david

22.Cubase + Performance tool + Gigastudio???? 8/9/2007 9:42:31 AM
Hi Emlyn,

sorry that it still doesn't seem to work - or does it by now?

Have you set all 4 ports of the PT to different INs/OUTs? And maybe you should try to run GS diagnostics, it might be able to tell you what's wrong if it's a GS error.

David

24.How do I route Vienna Performance Tool with GVI in Cubase? 8/7/2007 11:42:23 AM
Hi Kirk,

the way you describe is the way to go - if you want it easier, you'd have to use GS3 in stand-alone mode. I know it's inconvenient because you have to re-record your GVI midi out tracks when you change the "master" track, but alas there's no way around it.

Kind regards,
David
