2.Upgrade Paths from First/Pro Edition? 4/7/2012 12:43:36 PM

As a registered owner of First/Pro, still using Logic on a Mac, it is not clear to me at all what possible upgrade paths are available to me. My existing system (Logic 7, Pro Edition, Performance Tool, Mac G5 Pro, Tiger) is nearing the end of its life, and I have a number of Logic projects which make extensive use of the Pro Edition sample libraries. I hope that I don't have to start all over again?! I have looked all over the website for general links to this topic, surely I am not the only one! Any help greatly appreciated!  Edward

3.Upgrade Path for EXS 24 First Edition/Pro Edition Users 4/5/2012 10:19:05 PM

Hello,

I had a careful look at the product descriptions for the VSL current offerings of software and samples. As one who has worked with the samples in Logic via EXS 24, I was rather puzzled as to what actually happened with the VSL product development. I have these two primary questions:

1.) Is Logic supported in any way with the newer products?

2.) Are registered owners of First Edition/Pro Edition entitled to any discounts toward purchases of current products?

Thanks for any comments!

Edward

4.No Solo Viola in First Edition/Pro Edition 1/5/2012 4:01:14 PM

Hello,

I have not written to this forum for some time but am a registered user of First and Pro Edition. Due to the architecture of my MAC (Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5), I am using OS X 10.4.11 and Logic 7.1.1. I'm working on a piece for solo strings and noticed that there is no Solo Viola in my sample/instrument set. Would there be any sample set out there I could use? Thanks so much for any suggestions!

Regards,

Edward

5.Upgrade from First to Pro (MAC Power PC 10.4.10) 10/6/2007 7:50:13 PM
Thanks very much for your swift and helpful reply. After considerable experimentation I discovered that while the sampler instruments needed to go in the Application Support > Logic > Sampler Instruments, the samples could go in a different location (I have installed them on my 2nd hard disk) and Logic was able to "find" them. I will probably reveal a profound level of ignorance when I say that I attempted to put the Sampler Instruments on the 2nd hard disk but could figure out no way to get them recognized inside Logic, even after using the Project Manager. This experience left me wondering what the Project Manager is useful for. Having achieved this level of organization, I considered your suggestion regarding the Redmatica product. I downloaded the documentation but found it a bit difficult to read through. What is the benefit of the EXS Manager? Many thanks again for your very helpful notes.
6.Upgrade from First to Pro (MAC Power PC 10.4.10) 9/29/2007 4:09:56 PM
Hello,

Sorry if these questions are all ancient history, but I searched the docs both on and offline and could not find answers. First here is my situation.
1.) I installed the First Edition in the recommended location (back in 2005, while running Logic 6, ie. to the Samples and Sampler Instruments folder, under Logic in the Applications folder).
2.) When I upgraded to Logic 7, the Vienna Instruments showed up under a Logic 6 instruments menu as selectable from the EXS 24 window. No problem, all seemed to work fine. I noticed, however, that the sampler instruments included with Logic 7 are installed in the Libraries folder at the root of the System Disk.
3.) I have just upgraded to the Pro Edition (final close out), and received all of the DVD's. Here come the questions:

1.) Should I install the Pro samples in the same place as the First Edition (in the Applications Folder under Logic), or should I move everything to the top level Libraries folder at the root of the system disk.
2.) I seem to be remembering at one point that it was recommended to install the samples on a different disk from the system disk. Is that still true?
3.) Any other advice on doing this upgrade?

Thanks in advance, feel free to give me a link to a place which has these answers!

Edward Childs
