1.Is VEP backwards compatible? 6/13/2011 9:05:32 PM

I recently upgraded to the latest build (8008) I just opened a project in Logic that I hadn't worked on in a while and it tells me VEP plug 0-30 is not available. I know that was the earlier incarnation of the plug so is that the problem. or is it something else?

I should mention I also upgraded Logic a point and Snow Leopard a point. I'm on Logic 9.14, OS 10.6.7. 8 core MacPro 24 GB etc.

Thanks

2.VEPro won't open as multi output in Logic 5/2/2011 12:46:27 AM

Karel,

You've saved my butt. I simply re-scanned VEP in AU manager and all is well. I don't think I would've thought of that solution for a very long time so thanks again!

PS the version number I used for VEP is an internal build number that's published on your page as well, but yes .......... it is build 4.1.8008

3.VEPro won't open as multi output in Logic 5/1/2011 12:01:44 AM

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the quick reply. I tried to make clear in my 1st post that all the software I'm using is the latest. The fact that it opens as a stereo instance but not a multi points to the software being properly installed but i suppose that's a bit of an assumption. Anyway, I re - downloaded the newest versions (again) and re -installed (again) with the same result. I'm using eliscenser 2.1.1.4 and VEP 6.2.0.15059, Logic 9.1.3, OS 10.6.6, a 2009 MacPro 2.8 ghz, 8 core, 24 GB. All my other software like Omnisphere, RMX and Kontakt open within VEP as a multi output.

Since it works on my G5 it seems likely that it has something to do with VEP on Intel or Snow Leopard. I don't know, but it's curious at any rate. So ...... how should I proceed? Is the download corrupted perhaps? I used Safari. I've also repaired permissions and deleted preferences but nothing changed. Or has it got something to do with an activation code? That seems unlikely since it opens as a stereo instance but I'm grasping at straws at this point. I've re-installed at least 4 times, both VEP and the eliscenser. So I'm out of ideas.

edit: I just tried it on my Macbook Pro running 10.5.7, Logic 9.1.0. Same deal. It opens as a stereo plug but throws up the error message trying to open the multi output version. What the hell is going on here? It must be tied to the elicenser in some way because that's the only thing that's consistent across platforms. But if that's the case, why does it work on the G5? Hmmm. I tried to check my activation codes but found no way to check which codes are actually being used.

Thanks,

4.VEPro won't open as multi output in Logic 4/30/2011 6:22:51 AM

I'm running Logic 9.1.3, OS 10.6.6, newest VEP, eliscenser. It'll open as a stereo plug. It'll also open on my old G5 running OS 10.5.7, Logic 9.0.2. Stereo or Multi.

I've got the latest build and now it won't open as a multi output plug in Logic? It spits out the error message, "Failed to load Audio Units Vienna Ense, please contact the manufacturer for an updated version or further assistance." Anyone got an idea about this?

Thanks

5.The outs of the Vienna Key [are they written anywhere?] 11/26/2010 10:29:50 PM

VSL had a problem. They solved the problem by making it your problem. We could make it their problem again by not buying their products until a reasonable solution is proposed. Unfortunately we didn't do that and we bought their software "as is". Now they have no motivation to do the right thing. Too bad, an optional timed out license is the obvious solution and is a win for all.

6.Can I use VEP as an audio processor on my slave? 11/14/2010 1:50:08 AM

OK, sounds good. Thanks, can't wait.

7.Can I use VEP as an audio processor on my slave? 11/10/2010 6:27:03 PM

Couldn't quite figure out how to word that, but here's what I'm trying to do. I have VEP working very well with my G5 as master, MBP as slave. (thanks Vienna!) Since the G5 is underpowered I was hoping to be able to put a few reverb processors on my MBP and pipe audio from the G5 to the MBP, process it there and monitor the result back on the G5.

In other words, the instruments reside on the G5 but the reverb fx live on the MBP.

Possible?

8.Mac Network Question 9/29/2010 4:34:21 PM

So I'll ask one more time and then give up. Does anyone know the difference between "DHCP with manual address" and "Manual"? And ....... does VE Pro like one over the other?

PS This might be something that the VI reps would want to know.

PPS Why do my paragraph breaks still not show up. I've selected "enhanced" in my profile

Thanks

9.Mac Network Question 9/29/2010 4:29:35 PM

Well the location tab is where you specify what to call a new location or edit the settings on an existing one. You probably don't need to do anything there. The option to switch to "manual" is in the configure tab where yours now says "DHCP with manual address"  Just configure to "DHCP with manual address" and set it to a fixed address. (Might as well use the one that has already been assigned to you automatically.)

Then Bob's your uncle!

10.Mac Network Question 9/29/2010 12:49:06 AM

ddk,

Just set up your IP address as "Manual" or "DHCP with manual address" in your system network preference pane. If you're on "Automatic" your router assigns an address for you. It may change depending on various factors. IF it changes VE Pro no longer sees your existing instances as viable connections. So ........ best to not have the address change. That's what "Manual" means. Now you can assign a fixed (doesn't change) address.

Take a picture of your existing settings and then go ahead and flip over to ?Manual" and assign the same address that was assigned to "Automatic" Do this on all your computers. Then you should be good.

Good luck.

11.Mac Network Question 9/29/2010 12:42:09 AM

Hi Paul,

Thanks for your quick response. No settings have changed from previous build. Host is Logic 9.0.2 on G5. I/O buffer is 256. Ve Pro on MBP is set to 2 threads per instance. Because I'm on the AU standard I'm using 3 instances (too many perhaps) but they are not being used very heavily at all. I suppose I could experiment with 1 thread per instance and see what happens.

Really what I would like to know is ........ Is "DHCP with manual address" the same as "Manual" in our network preferences? I mean obviously they're somewhat different or we wouldn't have that option. But in terms of what Ve Pro likes to see, does it make a difference? (I may need a Mac Networking guru to step in here)

I'm just trying to eliminate variables here. My G5 is of course underpowered at this point. But I'm stuck with it for a while.

Thanks again,

12.Mac Network Question 9/28/2010 5:02:46 AM

My Ve Pro (new build) is working pretty well for me. Thanks guys. Brilliant soft. I have my G5 talking to my MBP through a gigabit switch and fixed IPs. I have both machines set to "DHCP with manual address". Is this effectively the same as "Manual"? I'm getting a few clicks and pops here and there and am trying to track it down. Airport is off.

13.Spectrasonics instruments and multitimbral performance 9/18/2010 2:12:28 PM

Yes, this is a limitation of how Spectrasonics developed their plugs. In fact, it's the ONLY limitation that I have found... so you "simply" have to work around it and use multiple instances (or in the case of VST3 or RTAS, use multiple "ports") of VEPro, since the Spectrasonics plgs are forced to use midi 1-8.

I don't think this is quite true. For RMX it is, but Omnisphere and Trillian allow the use of midi channels 9-16. I have a project up right now that uses 2 Spectrasonics AU plugs per instance. Just instantiate RMX first.
