1.Problem with VEP7 ilok (pre-ilok server projects not working) 3/27/2022 5:12:18 PM

I had my template (VEP Server project) created with VEP7 and was using it with both Cubase 11 and Reaper.

Since the ilok conversion, the template can still be opened, but no sound gets back to Reaper or Cubase.

If i make a new project in VEP7, it works fine. So it seems that my pre-ilok projects needs to be processed in order to work with ilok VEP7. I tried to save as my template in order to see if it would make this work, but not successfully.

Can you still use your VEP projects ? Do I need to do something ?

I am on PC, VEP Server 7.1.1239, latest updates from Cubase and Reaper.

Cheers,

Fabrice

2.Synchron Strings Pro. Long equivalent to staccato FF 12/10/2021 8:56:41 PM

Hello,

On Synchron Strings Pro, I have been using recently using staccato FF, but I have a problem when these short notes end on a long note. The only long accentuated long note articulation I find is the marcato/sfz, which is much much weaker (I think that the Dynamics/Sforzato is the same patch ). I end up using staccato FF on low Expression and Vel.XF and suddenly moving to high values when I arrive on the long note.

Is there a more elegant way to deal with that ?

3.Best Way To Control Volume With Synchron? 7/9/2020 1:04:58 PM

Hello,

I am adding my concerns on top of the subject.

On top of cc7 and cc11, I realized that there still are some Velocity in my DAW. So when I play the piece, I can hear the dynamics changing according to the Velocity (visible in my DAW), although I can not see Velocity in my Synchron Player.

Any idea ?

4.Cresc and decresc Synchron SE 6/22/2020 12:51:29 PM

Hi Andi,

Thanks, this works fine and i learned how to twick with the Midi Tool that I never used before. Some concerns though:

- VelXF is by default cc2 for all instruments in my Synchron Player, so I had to implement your solution with CC2

- Would t it be easier to set all Dynamics (pp, p, mp to fff) and cresc and decresc to VelXF ? (don't know if it is possible)

- Is that easier with Dorico or Sibelius ? I own a Finale 2009 only and am working with a demo Finale V26. I wonder if i should buy the Finale upgrade or switch to Sibelius or Dorico. The VSL point of view is very important for me as I will always enter music with a Notation Software (I want to deal as less with DAWs as possible) and I value VSL instruments a lot !

Thanks again for your very fast answer !

Fabrice

5.Cresc and decresc Synchron SE 6/22/2020 9:15:18 AM

Hello,

I am trying to get cresc. and decresc. work on timpani rolls but was unsuccessful. I tried the "cresc." Expression as well as the "soufflet" sign.

More generally, is there any documentation on how dynamics - including crescendi and decrescendi - are handled ?

I am staring at VEP while executing the Finale Playback and do not see anything moving.

I am using Synchon Special edition and the timpani is Synchron Timpani

6.Link between Finale and Synchron(through VE) 4/16/2020 2:04:31 PM

Hello,

I have been doing all the steps from https://eu.vsl.co.at/?FileID=184032

and I can find that many of the expressions and articulations are then reported in the Synchron player.

But I don't know how to trigger some of them, for example : what to write in Finale to get for a Oboe the articulation "Long Notes" of type Marcato ? (and potentially select then the attack?).

More generally, where are the links documented (in Finale? in a Vienna Synchron player propertey ? somewhere else ?).

Thanks for your help,

Fabrice

7.More than 16 instruments in Finale: how to use several instances of VE ? 1/8/2009 7:53:03 PM
Thanks! I am not quite familiar with plugins instruments yet, but yes, it works !
8.More than 16 instruments in Finale: how to use several instances of VE ? 1/8/2009 2:14:48 PM
Hello,

I am using Finale 2009 with VE, and this works fine for small ensembles.

Now I am writing for a full orchestra and am looking how to work with 2 instances of VE.

Until now, I copied the VE folder in order to be able to run a second instance of VE. This works fine. I can see another VE window where I can add Instruments.

Now in VE instance 2, I can still only see channels 1 to 16 (which are I assume are the channel used in my Finale instance).

=> How can I get to see channels 17->32 which I am using in Finale ?

Thanks for your Help,

Fabrice
9.Sibelius or Finale 1/8/2009 1:53:12 PM
I am using Finale since 2 years and just bought Finale 2009. The integration with VSL was very easy (couple of hours to understand and try it for the first time, knowing that i am completely new to VSL), much more than what is described in the Sibelius Tutorial video where it looks like a spaceship construction.

Now all articulations, playing modes (legato, staccato, pizz) are automatically switched in Vienna ! It's really great.

Out of all the musicians I know, just 2 are using Sibelius and they are comlaining about the poor quality of crescendi in Sibelius for example. This feature is working pretty fine in Finale.
I would recommand Finale, but as I have never been working with Sibelius, this is a subjective point of view...

10.finale - how to explain VSL/vienna Suite to switch between different articulation (matrices) 12/31/2008 4:31:52 PM
Hi Andi,

thanks for your quick answer ! One step was missing, and is missing in the readme file:

=> After clicking on "import", one must do the following: In the "Preference Sets Management" subwindow, select "Vienna Instruments" instead of "Default Prefs (attached)".

Maybe you could specify in the readme file in the net release ?

Now it's seems to work !

Have a wonderful new year's eve,

Cheers

Fabrice
11.finale - how to explain VSL/vienna Suite to switch between different articulation (matrices) 12/31/2008 1:55:28 PM
Hello,

I am using Finale 2009 and have the same problem but could not fix it.

I tried piano and violin solo.

The only feature transmitted is the piano pedal.
For violin, neither pizz nor staccato are making patch changes.

I have done all steps of the readme file:

This is an empty Finale file with Human Playback Settings for the Vienna Special Edition. It does not work with other collections. These settings will take care of Keyswitches automatically, when you change articulations.

1. Open or start a new Finale document. You don't have to open F2009+VSL-SE_HumanPlayback.MUS, because you can import the settings to your own documents.
2. PC: To activate Vienna Ensemble in Finale go to MIDI/Audio/Device Setup/Manage VST Plug-ins and add the Plug-in directory, where your Vienna Ensemble.dll is located. Then in MIDI/Audio/Instrument Setup/VST Instruments choose Vienna Enemble. The Vienna Ensemble window, where you can load your instruments, will open automatically. Also make sure that in the MIDI/Audio menu "Play Finale through VST" is activated.
Mac: In MIDI/Audio/Instrument Setup/Audio Units Instruments choose Vienna Enemble. The Vienna Ensemble window, where you can load your instruments, will open automatically. Also make sure that in the MIDI/Audio menu "Play Finale through Audio Units" is activated.
3. To import the settings in your Finale score, go to MIDI/Audio/Human Playback/Human Playback Preferences and click Import. Then choose the F2009+VSL-SE_HumanPlayback.MUS file.
4. Open the Vienna Ensemble window, make the same channel settings as in Finale and load the matrices of the instruments from your score.
