1.MIRx 2nd Violins Preset 11/3/2014 11:20:54 PM

Thanks!!

2.MIRx 2nd Violins Preset 11/3/2014 4:24:55 PM

Hi, i'm building my new orchestral template which includes Dimension Strings (as well as some download instruments and SE Percussion) and MIRx (Teldex) and i'd love to have a Preset for 2nd Violins, are there any plans to create one? it would be super useful to have. If not, any tips on how to position my 2nd violins?

Thanks!

3.New Cue, New Setup, New VSL Strings 11/13/2009 10:01:51 PM

Great, great Music as usual Mike. Having heard all the pieces you've posted here and a couple more on your website i can honestly say that you have your own personal style and voice, so i disagree with those who label you as a "John Williams Clone" or something like that, i think there's an original voice behind those great melodies and wonderful orchestration.

Congratulations Mike

4.Jay Bacal's Solo string II - con sordino - Shostakovich Quartet 5/3/2009 5:33:57 PM

Congratulations again Jay, you did an amazing job as usual, very inspiring interpretation.. those new con sordino strings sound very very good.

I'd love to hear any Richard Strauss, Wagner or Korngold done by you using VSL... Tristan und Isolde prelude.. anything from Salome or Der Rosenkavalier... Die Tote Stadt, The Sea Hawk.. hehe.

Congrats again Jay.

5.Wedding Suite 4/3/2009 6:25:52 PM

As always your work is nothing but great, congrats Mike both on your wedding and the music. Why did you decide not to have strings or woodwind and focus on the brass section? It's an interesting choice and i think that your were able to retain your own "sound"  even without strings or woodwinds, that's cool.

Congrats again Mike!

6.Complete "The Rite Of Spring" performed by Jay Bacal 3/17/2009 2:47:43 PM

Amazing Work Jay! i was wondering since sunday morning why nobody was posting anything about this! Truly incredible. Congrats Jay.

What about some Korngold next? Maybe the Sea Hawk Main Theme

7.My first post. Special Edition demo. 3/9/2009 1:21:23 PM

Wow, the new piece is great! congratulations. Can you tell us about your working "method", which reverb you used, eq, etc?. Congrats again.

8.My first post. Special Edition demo. 3/9/2009 1:15:09 PM

Jacques: Your piece "The Labyrinth" is the greatest demo of the Special Edition available, in fact when i heard it last year i was inmediately convinced to buy the SE. Great work.

P.S: I have listened to your demos for the Broadway Big Band too, you have both great arranging/composing skills as well as excellent programming chops. Well done buddy.

9.What to buy?? 11/9/2008 7:35:19 PM
I'm a big Korngold fan, but in case you didn't know, most of his film music was not orchestrated by him, because of the extra demanding schedule in the "studio system" days (30's and 40's). For example, the score for THe Adventures of robin Hood was orchestrated by the excellent composer Hugo Friedhoffer... and that was usual at that time, but of course Korngold gave Friedhoffer a highly detailed sketch of what he wanted, this wasn't because Korngold didn't have the ability (OF COURSE!!) but because of time issues. Herrmann was one of the only ones during the 40's, 50's and 60's who did all the orchestration process himself. Nowadays, talented composers like Danny Elfman still rely on orchestrators, others, like Howard Shore, orchestrate and conduct all their music.

10.The Race, and... "Rescued Snippets" 10/30/2008 9:40:37 PM
The Race is awesome! Congrats again Mike. You should start doing some online orchestration lessons.
11.To the Promised Land 10/29/2008 1:43:09 AM
Who cares if it sounds like Williams!!, this is great music, beautifully orchestrated, congratulations Mike, very inspiring music. And i also like that you can be positive with music even if your HD died or the U.S economy is not good nowadays, that's our main job as musicians/composers i guess... transmit the joy of music.

Talking about infuences, what do you think about Korngold - both his concert and film music-? and what about Richard Strauss? (i'm not saying that your music sounded like Strauss, i just wanna know your opinion about his music, since i'm a big Strauss fan)

Congrats again.
12.Best portable midi keyboard/audio interface for 2008 imac with logic studio? 10/19/2008 8:08:46 PM
If you're using Logic, then you could try an Apogee Audio Interface, and for the keyborad, you don't have to spend THAT much money i think. Try CME UF line (the UF 88 is pretty nice). They great thing about CME controllers is that they offer a "breath controller" input, very useful for VSL orchestrations (i'm going to buy a CME UF 60 next week i think)
13.General Composition Book Recommendations? 9/9/2008 1:27:22 PM
Also check Samuel Adler's book STUDY OF ORCHESTRATION, is one of the best out there, and you can get hear all the examples if you get the CDs. Great book.
14.VSL on stage? 8/7/2008 2:15:06 PM
Have you seen the products from OPEN LABS, their keyboards are awesome, they're windows base, you can stream all samples right from the keyboard without using any external computers. I know someone who has one and is uses always (he's the musical director for the Chilean version of the show "Dancing with the Stars" - Strictly come dancing in the UK).

I just saw their latest model which even features the Vienna Special Edition and East West Libraries as a bundle

This is a little more affordable

15.VSL Podcast show 51 (Joel Goldsmith) 7/29/2008 8:01:24 AM
Thanks for your kind answer....

I will get a new midi controller as soon as i can, something not expensive, i was thinking of an M-Audio AXIOM 61 in fact... i will only use it as a midi controller (for VSL and other things too, i'm very much into Funk music so i desperately need those wheels!! to get those Stevie Wonder, Parliament-Funkadelic, Jimmy Jam/Terry Lewis/The Time sounds..great stuff for Synth Bass Lines..).

The RD-150 would remain as my master keyboard.
16.47 new download instruments online 7/28/2008 11:10:06 PM
Mmm, i was thinking that in addition to buying the SE Strings PLUS (i'm gonna do it later this year) i'd love to have the chamber violins (for divisi) as a download instrument. I hope this can happen in the future, because i don't wanna buy the SE Extended just because of the Chamber Violins.
17.VSL Podcast show 51 (Joel Goldsmith) 7/28/2008 7:37:21 PM
Great Job Hetoreyn! Thank you, i really enjoy listening to your podcasts, especially the interviews. I'm waiting for part 2 of Joel Goldmisth's intervew.

P.S: I noticed we have the same keyboard (Roland RD-150) is there any way of controling the velocity crossfade in VI using this keyboard? i like the action of the Roland keys a lot, and it's good to compose and arrange, but it's so limited as a controller... (i miss the modwheel and pitch wheels)
18.Chamber Strings 2 make Chamber Strings 1 sound pants!!! 6/22/2008 5:25:58 AM
Wow, i just listened to Jay Bacal's Tchaikovsky and as usual his work is outstanding, the Chambers Strings II sound beautiful, congrats on your new product VSL, and of course, congratulations Jay for your usual great job. Now i'm gonna take a listen at Jay's new Holst's 1st Suite for Military Band - March... the comments on Northern Sounds Forum are very good on this piece also.
19.Logic Studio (8) with Vienna Special Edition System Overload 6/18/2008 5:20:37 PM
Cgernaey: I'm also running my Special edition on a Macbook Pro with 2GB of Ram, using a 500 GB firewire 800 HD for the samples, and i have the same problem as you with Logic 8, for example the Christian Kardeis demo for Special Edition (which has a lot of SD instances) doesn't run well on my system, i have yet to test my SE in a proper way (i'd been very busy the last to weeks on another musical projects, in fact only last Saturday i was able to "play" a little bit with the samples and they are awesome), but i noticed that thing about the CPU meter going 100% and the HD still on 0%.

Please let us know how you solve your problem.
20.Favorite individual film cues of all time? 6/13/2008 12:12:58 AM

Certainly the Main Title Music from Herrmann's VERTIGO is one of them... it perfectly sets the mood for the whole movie. I also like the "Love Music" very very much (i'm a big fan of Wagner's Tristan Und Isolde).

23.Finally... my Vienna SE is here!! 6/5/2008 3:05:55 AM
The installation went without any problems, i already registered my SE and the whole process was very easy (using the video tutorials). The only bad thing was the very slow download of the VI Software (i don't know why), but anyway... i'm back at home now (i installed and registered before living to a long rehearsal..) so now it's time to do the "first tests".

24.Finally... my Vienna SE is here!! 6/4/2008 6:21:04 AM
After two months, i finally got my Vienna Special Edition here in Chile, it was a long wait, but i know it was worth it. The only drawback is that this is a very busy week for me, i picked the package a few hours ago from my brother's house (a friend of him brought the package from new york to Chile) and i'm now at home, but it's 2 o'clock in the morning, and tomorrow i don't think that i could have the time to install de SE.. anyway i'm very happy and i expect to be posting some new compositions and/or arrangements made with the Vienna SE soon.

I hope i'll have no troubles with the installation, but if i have any doubts i'll now i can ask some questions here (o read past questions on the forum).

So... Vienna SE has travelled a lot of km and is now here in Chile South America, lucky me.
25.video tutorials 5/31/2008 6:43:14 PM
