1.FREE UPDATE: Great Rieger Organ OUT NOW! 6/4/2021 5:54:02 PM

Oops, yes, this is completely unusable...

Ahh, I have keyboards and synths with that functionality (and indeed would never attempt any sort of live performance without it), but I've never had the evident pleasure of playing a pipe organ that had it.

:) the real organ now has 5 x 1000 (5000) free Setzer combinations.  The VSL version has 12 x 12 (144).
Still, with the virtual organ now much improved both regarding sound and operation, I'd like to suggest a Feature-Request for stepper functionality in the next player edition...

To access the registrations from a sequencer I will currently need to make up 24 Key switches...

ROW1, ROW2, .... ROW12
SLOT1, SLOT2, .... SLOT12
rather than just two (SLOT>>, SLOT<<)
Stepping sequentially through registrations is how nearly all organists would prepare their concert programs.

Is that what I would call a crescendo pedal? From the pictures I have of the actual organ, I think it might have a Rollschweller crescendo roller to the left of the swell pedals. so something like that would useful.

As for another wish list item (and perhaps it's already got that but I'm not able to download it until this evening), super- and sub-octave couplers with unison on/off.

I'm looking forward to trying the tremulant - you can't really use the Vox Humana without it!

With Stepper I meant two buttons (>> and <<) to advance forward or backward sequentially through the registration slots with single commands (from the sequencer).  Addressing each of the 12x12 registration slots by individual key switches seems tedious... (and only 144 slots seems a bit 1950-ish...)

I only installed it last nite, so I may (hopefully) be overlooking something, but there are no swell pedals to be seen either, so I guess one has to simulate swell behavior with a CC (11 perhaps :)

There are super- and sub couplers, but no unison off, as far as I can see...

7.VEP 6.015318 seriously crashing while scanning plugins 9/30/2016 11:47:01 AM

That's interesting because on Windows(7), using the Flux Center default installation paths, no Flux plugins are found.  Moving the .dll files up in the folder hierachy make them visible to VEP6, but they do not work (the GUI is absent, or VEP crahes). All was normal with VEP5.

8.Finale CC7 - Master Volume moves but why 3/10/2016 10:37:18 PM

Frankly, I don't think there's anyone left at makemusic who understands the inner workings of human playback. The blunders around the release of GPO5 supports this theory. Anyway, the bug is easily reproducible, I'll send you the recipe when back in the studio.

ciao,

Hi Andi,

The bug has been documented, and has been acknowledged by Makemusic, as late as December 2015.

Best,

I can't reproduce the CC1/CC7/CC11 confusion here with Finale 2014.5. I remember that Finale mixed up CC7 and CC11 in an earlier version, but I'm not sure which version that was exactly. Anyway, this is fixed with Finale 2014.5 - at least on my computer.

Best regards,
Andi

Oh, but that's not the bug I was referring to!  The CC7 and CC11 mixup is fixed in 2014.5, but not the bug I described, namely, CC1 data sent as expression dumps (in order to navigate the Y-axis) hijacking both CC11 and CC7 data...

This is a bug in Finale (all versions since 2012 at least) with all dynamic alternatives. CC1 is ok when used within the HP techniques, but when sent as an expression (dump) use another CC, like 3...

Hi,

KONTAKT, UVI WS etc. require an active audio connection for their GUIs to display correctly.  E.g. you have to CONNECT your VEP instances to your audio host first...

14.Which DAW and workflow 11/25/2015 2:55:49 PM

Sould I be looking at purchasing Cubase? Is VSL more suited to that enviornment.

Regarding workflow...: If you are into Finale, and prefer to work in traditional notation, it is pretty straight forward to use that as a front end to a DAW.  Personally, I use Cubase (and to a certain degree Reaper) and VSL VEP to host all the instruments, and route MIDI OUT from Finale to the DAW via internal (virtual) Midi Cables.  When you record arm the tracks in the DAW you have live, interactive playback any time.  If you want to record Midi into the DAW you just press the red button... much simpler than exporting and importing Midi Files.  Articulation switching is done with Finale's Human Playback system.  The culprit (for many) is that you have to learn and program that yourself.  A starting point for learning this is to look at some premade files, such at the one available from VSL, and expand on that. My orchestral template uses HP Prefs for 13 different libraries from over 10 companies. (PM me if you want to know which ones:)). It works great, and there is usually very little post-editing to do in the DAW if you utilize Finale's capabilites to the max, such as Shape Playback etc...

15.Error Message: "Your system finger print is not valid anymore." 10/15/2015 10:05:30 AM

Hi,

your VSL licenses are on your Hardware key, and should not be affected... apparently you can uninstall the eLicenser Control Center and reinstall the latest version (downloaded from here: http://www.elicenser.net/en/latest_downloads.html) in order to get rid of the warning...

Hi,

which brand of SSDs are you using? I had the same experience with the popular Samsung EVO840. They will slow down gradually to a crawl.  You will need up upgrade the firmware etc. in order to restore performance.  If this is you scenario, google it...

If you read my message again you will see that I didn't "recommend" the Vienna Konzerthaus Organ for baroque work. I tried to point out ways for the original poster to achieve his goals with the tools at hand - especially regarding the "spatial qualities" you mention.

Kind regards,

Sorry, I didn't mean to suggest that you recommended it, I merely stated that I personally would not recommend it.  As to the possible workarounds we seem to agree.

All the best,

;-f

Thanks for your understanding.

Hi,

Actually I am aware of your policy, but since I'm already owner of the Konzerthausorgan and the OP apparently will be soon anyway, I considered it a minor offence, especially since the link was to a discontinued product andthus for information purposes only.  As a professional organ player myself, I would be hard pressed to recommend the KHO for baroque work (not to mention the Harmonium).  Of course, an organ of this size will always have stops that with a little effort can mimic older instruments, but the voicing and spatial qualities will make it a rather half hearted undertaking.

23.Finale 2014b 6/11/2014 8:48:04 AM

Hello,

the most annoying issue (among many) regarding Finale 2014 (a,b) is the inability to create or modify Human Playback playing techniques (Key switches).  The Action fields 1 and 2 will, in various combinations, (eventuelly) result in the entered values reverting to zero.  I documented this when 2014 came out, it was confirmed by MakeMusic, and even confirmed as fixed for 2014a, which is was not. I documented it again after 2014b was released, and MakeMusic only yesterday confirmed it again as a bug with no workarounds.

Manually edited velocity data are ignored in all layers (ignored in layer 1 only in 2014a). Playing techniques, however, are now triggered from all layers (previously only from layer 1).  Glissandi works in 2014b (i.e. Human Playback generates lots of notes for ya). Like Andi already mentioned CC7 and CC11 are still mixed up (how difficult can that be to correct!?), and the for some really annoying bug of MIDI OUT resetting to "none" is still unattended... oh well...

best,

24.Battute articulation 2/17/2014 8:09:33 PM

You're right, of course. It's just that it's so often taken in the same breath as col legno... I have a whole book somewhere about string articulations :)

25.Battute articulation 2/17/2014 12:54:51 PM

Hi,

The full term is "Col legno battuto".  The strings are hit with (mostly) the wooden side of the bow.  Lots of VSL libs have it, look for Col Legno. The Col legno tratto (or arco) is less common, but can be found in the Ircam solo instruments e.g.
