2.MIR: How to bounce audio 3/12/2010 8:44:34 AM

How do I bounce audio with MIR?

I'm using Cubase 4 and a Delta 44 sound card.

Cubase uses output 1/2 on the Delta.

MIR uses output 3/4.

*

I'm guessing I should connect Delta's output 3/4 (=MIR's output) to input 1/2.

Then in Cubase, I add an audio track with input 1/2 as the input.

Then when I hit record on this audio track, I record MIR's output.

*

This is how to go about it, right?

I'm asking here before spending time first locating my spare audio cables and then setting things up.

Hope it's ok!

Btw. I am currently thinking hard about how to find the money for MIR in my budget asap Smile

If only I didn't have to eat! Cool

Best,

Henrik

3.MIR trial license expired - is it renewable somehow? 3/11/2010 5:11:22 PM

Ah thanks, I found it, herb - there is a button in the eLicenser software called "Validate Usage Periods". When you click this, the computer thinks a little, then the remaining starts on MIR is back at 30/30. Great! I can also see that the license expires on April 2nd. That is good to know; I need to do all testing before this date (it will be some months before I can afford MIR, that's why).

Best,

Henrik

4.MIR trial license expired - is it renewable somehow? 3/11/2010 2:04:42 PM

I've used up the 30 starts with MIR trial already, thus I have 0 starts left and cannot use MIR any longer.

Is it possible to renew the license and get 30 more starts?

- Btw. I am impressed by MIR, to say the least.

The user interface is transparent and well-thought-out, and the space that MIR creates around instruments...it sounds like the instruments are playing in a real place, quite unlike when I use 'standard' convolution reverb and/or algorithm-based reverb.

Well done, VSL!

- Now, if only I could afford MIR right now!

Best,

Henrik

5.[SOLVED] MIR: No sound 3/9/2010 3:11:11 PM

I had not loaded the RoomPack; that was the problem.

It works fine now playing the keyboard and then listening to the output of MIR.

Very interesting to test!

Thanks for the help so far.

I have yet to try with Cubase and MIR booted at the same time (my soundcard do have 4 outputs), but that is for later. Right now I am busy listening to how MIR "sounds" with various instruments of the orchestra. Next I will try and compare the sound I can get with MIR to what I can get when using my existing setup (convolution reverb + an algorithm-based reverb VST)

Best,

Henrik

6.[SOLVED] MIR: No sound 3/8/2010 10:36:19 AM

I've downloaded the MIR demo, but can't get any sound out of it.

License was downloaded to my dongle just fine, and MIR boots just fine.

(I am just booting MIR for this example, that is, I am not booting both Cubase 4 and MIR at the same time.)

In MIR, under Options->Audio Settings, I make my choices.

Then I click Instrument->Add Instrument, and add a Kontakt 3 instance.

In the Kontakt 3 instance, I select a trumpet patch.

Now, when I play my MIDI-keyboard, I can see that the note "reaches" the Kontakt instance.

I can also see that there is a reaction two places inside MIR when I play the keyboard.

However no sound comes out.

Can anyone see what is wrong?

Best,

Henrik

PS. I have downloaded and installed LoopBe1, but can't get it to work with Cubase 4 and MIR being open at the same time.

7.MIR demo - where is it? 3/4/2010 3:05:33 PM

Ah, that's it - thanks! I've downloaded and installed it now - hope to get a chance to play with it this weekend.

Henrik

8.MIR demo - where is it? 3/2/2010 6:27:52 PM

 Hi Florian,

Thanks for the reply.

I think you need to have bought minimum one VSL instrument before MIR becomes downloadable ?

At the page you suggest, I see this:

Vienna MIR

ATTENTION: Vienna MIR requires Windows Vista or Windows 7 64bit

Hi Chris,

Perhaps this can help:

I'm using a Rollermouse Pro myself, which I can warmly recommend.

OT:

I think it is a pleasure seeing how professionally you guys, herb & co., handle things here on the forums.

You're (nearly) always being calm and helpful regardless of whatever way people approach you.

Big thumps up & lots of respect from me.

Looking forward to most likely becoming a MIR-customer later in the year.

12.Suitable computer specs? 1/23/2010 2:07:41 PM

Hi John,

Exactly how large is "large orchestral setups"?

I'm asking because, if possible, you might want to consider switching out the expensive Core i7-975 with the much cheaper Core i7-920. Then when time comes and you need more CPU-power, simply switch out the i7-920 with the new Core i7 CPU that is expected to hit the streets this spring (Core i7 980X aka Core i9 aka Gulftown: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gulftown_(microprocessor))

Asus have announced which of their motherboards that will support this new CPU, and P6T Deluxe V2 is among them, so all should be fine for the plan above (http://www.asus.com/News.aspx?N_ID=kolMcWopQ5KqVKht)

Either way, unless you want to go for a dual CPU pc, I think the system you have listed is pretty much the best available right now.

Best regards,

Henrik

PS. Here are some threads where MIR and CPU performance is mentioned:

13.special edition buyer's dilemma 1/22/2010 3:55:46 PM

I understand your dilemma, but who would buy the extended libraries if they could get all the good stuff in there at a much lower price? (as part of some kind of extension to the Special Edition Bundle, as you suggest)

16.new piece 1/3/2010 8:09:16 PM

 veetguitar,

I like the composition very much. Well done!

The mix itself also sounds great to my ears, although at this point I am pretty much overdosing on Tonehammer percussion.

Everybody's using it these days, it seems Smile

But back to this tune - was it a lot of work to get MIR to "sound" like this?

I like this piece very much, thanks for posting.

Best regards,

Henrik

17.MIR demo - where is it? 12/24/2009 8:19:14 AM

Ah! Thanks, Dietz Smile

I've been wanting to get the SE Woodwinds for a while though.

I think I will look in my calc sheet to see what I can afford, and then perhaps get it by January 1st.

Then I can download the MIR public beta demo afterwards!

Thanks for such quick replies, and Merry Christmas everybody!

Best regards,

Henrik

18.MIR demo - where is it? 12/23/2009 5:15:36 PM

Ack, I do not have any VIs yet, as my main library is one of the other big ones (SI).

Yet I am very, very eager to test MIR, which could be just the thing for me.

Do I really have to buy a VI library just to get to try out the MIR-demo with my main library?

Thanks again.

Best regards,

Henrik

19.MIR demo - where is it? 12/23/2009 3:03:01 PM

Where can I download the demoversion of MIR?

I've been looking all over the website with no luck.

Thanks.

Henrik

20.[Announcement] Public Beta: Vienna MIR v1.1 hosting third party VSTis online 12/22/2009 6:39:52 AM

Where on the homepage can you download the public beta from?

I can't find it anywhere.

I'm eager to test it!

Best regards,

Henrik

EDIT:

This must be the correct page:

http://vsl.co.at/en/68/428/709/239.htm

Did you remember to change it so that one will not need to have registered any Vienna Instruments in order to be able to download the public beta of MIR?

I have no VI's yet, and I'm guessing this is why I see no public beta MIR for download here.

21.Mir_Specifically_Specs_related_To_Computer 12/16/2009 7:14:09 PM

 veetguitar, read here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overclocking

If you search the net, there are countless recipes on how to overclock various CPU + motherboards combos.

Personally, I overclocked my Q6600 2.4 Ghz recently to see what it could handle.

It ended up at 3.5 GHz.

Measured with CPU Mark (http://www.cpubenchmark.net/), this lead to a 43% increase in CPU performance.

In the end I decided to return to 2.4 GHz however.

My system's CPU-fan and chassis-fan had to operate at a higher rpm to handle the increased heat from the CPU, which got too noisy for me.

*

If you're going to experiment with overclocking, make sure you carefully monitor the temperature of your system.

I use CPU-Z, SpeedFan and Core Temp for this.

23.Mir_Specifically_Specs_related_To_Computer 12/15/2009 1:07:30 PM

Terry, make sure your motherboard offers support for the upcoming Gulftown Core i9-processor.

I believe the P6T Deluxe V2-model from Asus does, but better check.

Then you can get a new computer now and simply replace the CPU later on, if you find you need more power for MIR.

Also you can overclock the i7-920 very heavily, try search the net.

This requires a good CPU cooler and a larger PSU than 430W though.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

Henrik

EDIT:

The upcoming CPU will not lead to a new processor series, I have just found out.

Thus it will not be called Core i9. Instead the name will be Core i7 980X.

24.Orchestra/Appassionata) 12/6/2009 10:37:38 AM

John, while I do not have experience with any of those libraries, I'm wondering if you are aware of the VSL Standard Edition? Here you can get the most commonly used articulations for not only orchestral strings and Appassionata, but solo and chamber strings as well, and at a very attractive price.

For more information, look here:

http://vsl.co.at/en/211/261/216/1629/1280.htm

http://vsl.co.at/en/211/261/216/1630/1281.htm

Best of luck with the film score.
