1.Transposing an instrument 10/24/2022 3:18:00 PM

Hello learned ones,

I keep thinking that this should be an easy one, but, well, I can't seem to suss it out: I want the Piccolo Tpt instance in VI Pro to sound an octave higher than written and where I'm playing it. I keep telling myself that this should be simple, but I can't seem to find where to transpose the Matrix as a whole.

Yes, of course I can just play it up the octave, but, well, it just seems that this should be a very easy thing to do, and something to use on other projects with other PI's should the need arise.

Thanks in advance for helpful suggestions

2.New repeatable Crash VEProiLock Update MAS 4/15/2022 8:20:46 AM

Hoping for some info:

Just did the update to 7.1.1298/iLok. Working in the MIDI editor window, with a buffer setting of 128; when dragging an event to another note, the Server crashes every time. With the buffer set to 2048 this doesn't happen. But in both cases, there's a subtle (fortunately!) digital pop that immediately precedes either the crash or the sounding of the note as I drag it. The pop also happens when, after restarting the Server, I reconnect the PI that was active at the moment of the crash. And obviously none of this was an issue in the previous version.

Thanks in advance for any helpful advice, or for simply confirming (or not) this bug.

It's all on the same machine.

3.Channel Set Bug - Win10 VEP v 7.1.1263 & .1245 4/8/2022 4:53:50 PM

Oy...  Thanks for the reply.

4.Merging Instances 4/8/2022 12:52:32 PM

Sorry in advance... kind of a long post:

With the latest iLok version of VEPServer, while everything is now working fine, I'd like to merge two of the instances (A into B), having read that it's more efficient for the computer. But, there seems to be no easy way to do this. Also, what I can't seem to find is a clarification of the difference between a single instrument's Matrix and a Channel Set.

  • Copying the Channel Set from instance A, then in Instance B inserting a Channel Set always results in a crash (this has been mentioned elsewhere).
  • Copying a Matrix from A and trying to paste it into an empty Channel/Instrument in Instance B is not possible; when right clicking on the title field in B's instrument, the "Paste Matrix" option is greyed out. But strangely enough, the Paste option is active if I go back to A''s instrument and right-click on that Matrix's title bar.

With the goal being to merge Instance A into B, what am I missing? There should be no=brainer kind of way to do this, shouldn't there?

Thanks in advance for helpful suggestions. And if a video would be helpful, I'll gladly do one.

5.Channel Set Bug - Win10 VEP v 7.1.1263 & .1245 4/8/2022 12:22:55 PM

Moved to iLok version. Metframes load fine, but getting "invalid" error when trying to load channel sets into a new frame on Windows 10 / VEP 7.1.1263

Also, copying/pasting a group of channels from one frame into a new frame causes VEP to crash/shut down.

I'm on the same version of VEP. I've been trying to find an easy way to merge channels from one instance into another. The Paste Channel Set command from the Edit drop-down results in a crash every time.

Have you had any luck?

That's always the case. We've always had to and will probably always have to deal with. Good ole' human nature.

But we still not talking about big problems - no one will convert your server projects to work with new version.

That was my next question... so you're saying that Vienna hasn't yet released an updated Server App for iLok that will work seamlessly just as the pre-iLok version worked? I went through that incredible hassle at first, only to reinstall the older version and everything again worked as it had.

So, I'm looking at buying a second computer, soley to run VEPro Server and the PI's, while keeping the first for the DAW and the associated functions (editing, mixing..). I was thinking that I'd be able to do this with the same iLok Cloud account; for instance the all the PI's relegated to the networked machine, and the mixing tools (Waves, etc..) relegated to the main machine. I thought that as long as I don't try to open a second instance on the other machine, I should be ok. But are you saying that this is not the case?

According to the video, it seems I can keep my dongle on 1 computer, and use the cloud with the other computer. At least I don't need to buy a second dongle. But please let me know if I am correctly understanding this.

Thanks in advance

9.[SOLVED] "The project you are trying to load is invalid" after upgrade to 7.0.1113 3/23/2022 12:25:33 PM

I was having the same issue. I couldn't get started with any of my projects. Got the same message every time, if I even got that far. I did the same thing; uninstalled the iLok VEP 7, reinstalled from the web download using the Steinberg licenser. Everything works as it did.

I also noticed another anomaly; it was confirmed to me that to use the iLok version of my libraries (and being able to trash the Steinberg key), I had to reinstall everything (!). After doing so, I noticed that one of the Synchron Cello patches was not found and had to substitute it. No huge thing, but curious, nonetheless.

I hope that Vienna susses this out.

10.Issues after changeing over to iLok 3/21/2022 5:45:27 PM

No problem  Like I said, your note about double clicking (instead of just clicking on the connect icon) got me the step further.

11.Issues after changeing over to iLok 3/21/2022 5:24:25 PM

Ok... thanks for the reply.

Double clicking got me a step further, in that an instance would be added to the Server (also 7.1.1226). I'm on Catalina, fwiw. But the individual instruments don't load. I get a curious pop-up in VEPS stating that "The project you are trying to load is invalid". The instances would always auto load in the past., with all of the custom configuring I had done. The saved projects would not load, either, so I'm now worried about having to recreate each Matrix with the extra articulations and such I've added in...

There's also a curious new app called VSLHelper that runs in the background. As for working with DP, the code warriors at Vienna built a MAS version and it had been working great.

Any of this sound familiar?

12.Issues after changeing over to iLok 3/21/2022 3:42:15 PM

I've recently done the iLok changeover, wanting to get away from the Steinberg Key. Yes, things were working fine , but I made the change anyway.

After re-downloading EVERYTHING (mandated as a part of the change-over), while I am able to open the VEP Server, add instances, instruments, etc., I cannot get it to properly connect to Digital Performer (the latest v 11). This is despite that in the PI window in DP, I do see that VEP Server is open and it will show whether or not I've already added an instance. But when I click on connect (as I've done a gajillion times in the past), now, nothing happens.

I'm hoping that I'm not the only one with the issue. Thanks in advance for any helpful suggestions.

best

13.Little Dimension icon... 2/7/2022 6:37:55 PM

Ok... I just looked again at the Dimension Tree page. I understand it better, and this in fact may help to clear up a couple of things, specifically why I can't seem to manually select the articulation I want, when the icon is blue (on).

Thanks, again.

14.Little Dimension icon... 2/7/2022 6:34:07 PM

Thanks, Paul.

I looked through the on-line Synchron player manual:

GUI Overview

Dimension Tree View

I couldn't find where it explained the Blue icon.

15.Little Dimension icon... 2/5/2022 10:45:53 AM

Regarding the Sync Strings Pro... (or maybe any Sync Library), in the GUI overview,

https://www.vsl.info/en/manuals/synchron-player/gui-overview

at the top of each Dimension, next to the Key Switch or controller assignment, is a small icon with what looks like 3 layered pieces of paper (if the layers were round, I'd take this to represent an old-school HD icon). Some of them are colored blue, some not. In my current project, none of them are colored in. Try as I might, I have not found an explanation for what these little icons represent, let alone the difference between highlighted/on or not.

Thanks in advance of any info.

16.sustaining long notes 1/29/2022 11:00:56 AM

Well, you've brought up a seemingly good possibility.

yes, the problem happens across seemingly all sustained instruments. However, in a 7 bar passage with two clarinets, both using the same instrument in VEP (01 KLB Perf-Universal), and with the passages simply playing in harmony, but rhythmically similar, there's a drop-out on the 2nd Clarinet note after 1 1/2 measures (dotted 1/4 = 62). The 1st Clarinet doesn't drop out. And swapping the playback assignment channels renders the same anomaly. No drop pout Cl 1, drop out Cl 2 (always in the same place).

Sussing this out would go a long way toward saving a lot of time in building these mock-ups.

Thanks in advance for furthering the discussion.

17.sustaining long notes 1/28/2022 7:07:50 PM

Thanks for the reply, Paul. I'll work on putting something appropriate together to send you.

18.sustaining long notes 1/26/2022 10:53:44 AM

Not sure, actually, what best to label this issue as..

  • VEP7/DP 11.04
  • SSD's all the way around

An ongoing problem is notes not sustaining every time. Often (but not always), and across different instruments, I'll want a long note, but Vienna doesn't let it happen. But sometimes, it does. Is this an issue of X-faded velocities, overlapped attacks, or what? Since I have this issue with many different instruments, it has to be the software, right? And I've wasted way too much time adjusting velocities, KS's, note durations from within the DAW, thinking it's something I'm doing wrong.

Thanks in advance for shedding any light on this.
