I'm trying to slave my 2013 retina Macbook pro as a slave to my Windows PCs to send all the groups in Cubase to that machine and do all the tape/bus compression/summing on that machine.
So far so good, Vienna Ensemble pro 5 works, but I'm encoutering one problem that's kind of a show stopper: The Slate digital plugins with their "rackish" framework don't show an interface. So that's the bus compressors and the tape.
Those same AU plugins do work in LIVE though. Which makes me think it's a Vienna Ensemble bug.

Does anyone else encounter this problem?


Edit: loading the same plug-ins in ensemble through DDMF does work. Then the plug-ins load as normal (inside the DDMF plugin)

I was wondering if the following is possible: VE does auto update now, but only on the computers connected to the internet. As my slaves are not I'm wondering if it would be possible for the slaves to do the update check on the other VE instances in the network. If one instance runs a newer version it downloads the update from that computer and also auto updates.
OR
In preferences you tell the slaves the IP of the computer connected to the internet and on load it checks that IP to see if the main machine has had an update. After that the same procedure...

For anyone interested, I found the problem:

I had to disable "large send offload" in all my (intel) ethernet adapters' drivers and now everything is back to normal again..
Also file copying was slow with these ticked on.

I updated my 3 computers to windows 8 last weekend and since then I've got the following problem:

The vienna ensemble instances that are loaded on the slaves first come up, but then I have to wait about 3 minutes befor all the plugins in the instance load. I tried other ehternet drivers and I disabled the firewall on the slaves, since they're not on the internet. Nothing seems to help.

What's also weird: in the time that the instance is loaded, but the plugins are not, I can go to that slave instance as if it's a new instance and load other plugins..

I hope this is because of some new security in windows 8 or something and that it's easy to fix, or that I'm just missing something :)

No, I don't use the instruments at all.. Only kontakt. I did install the instruments because the plugin kept complaining on every instance-load that it's not installed anymore and I need to do so myself.

I rolled back, but I can do another test in a couple of days? without installing the new VI. Maybe it was in some way related to that..

I noticed this too, my template which runs fine on 5.0 didn't run anymore on 5.1 becasue of ASIO spikes. I'm running at 128 kb buffer on a 3930k. My 2 slaves are a Q6600 and a Q8300..

I bought Cyclop by sugar bytes the other day. In Nuendo 5.54, when I press the save option (the top option in the preset list) I get a new screen of the directory structure where I can place the new preset.

When the plugin is loaded in vienna ensemble, which is the way I would want to work, nothing happens when I press the save option. It's as if it's doing some call to the host that vienna ensemble does not recognise. Could you guys check this out?

Another thing: I'm under the impression that the latest version (ViennaEnsemblePro-WIN-5.1.11262) of vienna ensemble is heavier on the Asio meter then the version before it. Has anyone else noticed this?

but I've got 3 ethernet controllers in my main computer.. that MIGHT be the problem (2 fixed and 1 for regular internet). It's almost as if the slaves advertise that they're there only once and the main computer "forgets" it after a while.

I have this problem too, but slightly different:

When I start up my computers, load vienna on the slave and then go get a drink or something before loading cubase and connecting to the slave they won't show up. I have to connect cubase within a couple of minutes (don't know how many) otherwise I have to disable the network adapter the slave is on (on the main pc) and re-enable it and the slave will be found again most of the time.. All win7 x64.

that link and turning on jumbo frames (9k) both helped for me

Maybe this should be a sticky. I found that, by doing the tricks on this site: http://www.sysprobs.com/windows-7-network-slow I could increase the performance of vienna ensemble pro a lot. Hardly any asio spikes left, while i had a lot of them when buffer was set to none. Enjoy!

Thanks, I'll try disableling bonjour. Allthough it could very well be that your network just changed from public to home because you set the gateway.

You need to set a gateway in windows7 for your network to be a "home" network.

I've got the same problem: Since I've upgraded to windows7 on the host (already had it installed on the slave) the vst plugin sometimes just can't find the slave till i restart both machines.

I'm not entirely sure why this happends sometimes, but it looks like when there's something changed in the network it can't find the slave anymore.

For example: when i unplug my usb WIFI adapter with which the host can be connected to the internet. Or change something in the network settings to test another setting, like enable or disable jumbo frames.

The network itself seems to work after such a change, ensemble just can't find it's slave anymore. XP didn't have this problem.

no... i primarily use kontakt with it and a couple of other vstis...

but i send my midi to the plugin version on the master.. I hardly ever use the normal midi inputs..

I noticed a big improvement when setting latency to 0... that's the main thing i like about this update.

In my 1 day experience 4881 is the best version yet... very good latencies also

the strange thing is that the template isn't unloaded on the slave, while the main computer isn't connected anymore.

The template gets unloaded when i reload it from the main or quit cubase.

when i load big templates, my VE pro loses connection all the time also.. i think it's primarily when saving in cubase.

*edit* with the track i'm workin on now this happends really EVERY TIME cubase saves. I've got 2 ensemble plugins running in cubase, connected to two 64-bit instances. everytime i save at least 1 of the 2 loses connection. this is really super annoying because reloading the templates takes about 8 minutes..

if i load the 5th kontakt 4 in a seperate ensemble instance there is no problem...

it seems that 4780 and 4686 both crash when i load more then 4 kontaks 4, and cubase on the other computer wants to save.

so what happends is that it all works just fine, till the autosave or regular save starts in cubase. then cubase just freezes and i need to do a reboot.

xp on the main computer
windows7 on the second one (64 bit)

8gb of memory on that second computer... i doubt it that i've used that all..

I'm having a lot more audio drop-outs when latency is set to "none" then what i had with the last "final" build

MOST of my network problems where solved by getting two intel ethernet controllers and setting jumbo frame to the max in the drivers and i fooled around with some other settings..

i still get some drop-outs, but very sporadic.

i've been testing http://www.midevice.com/Products.aspx?ProductID=0 again.. (just the demo). and it seems to be working a lot better then the previous release, but still crashes when you click on the setup button or change patches in gladiator wraped.

also, the d16 nepheton outputs other than the first one don't work...

which is an automap like wrapper for vst plugins, so you can assign any midi controller to any parameter on any vst... but it seems to crash vsl ensemble.
