1.Changing articulations in ONE Midi channel 6/23/2018 11:41:22 PM

Hi there!

OK, I´m using Vienna Instruments, and have 1 midi track in my DAW.

If I play in some notes, how can I go back and edit the midi notes to play different articulations? (within the same MIDI track)

When I switch the articualtion in Vienna Instruments, it then plays that articulation for ALL the notes.

I don´t want to use a different track for each seperate articulation.

PS...I have recently just moved from using scoring software (and using that to trigger articulations) to using VSL in a DAW. So apologies for the basic question!

Best regards!

Hi everyone,

Only a few minutes long, but I thought it might be of interest to a few people!

4.The Sage Gateshead / RoomPack 4: Three new Venues for MIR Pro available now! 4/5/2013 8:12:10 PM

Hi guys,

Quite incredible that VSL have The Sage as a room pack !!

I have heard a many concerts live at The Sage and the acoustics are quite astounding.

I'm sure everyone will take their music to new levels using the main Hall One.

It has been a dream of mine to hear my music played in The Sage... and now I can.

I'm sure this hall will be the default for many MIR users!!

Enjoy !!

Best regards,

Ian Mackie

5.How can I start to use VI Pro??! Now - no sound from VE Pro!! 4/15/2011 8:59:52 AM

So I spoke to soon!!

I can get VI Pro to come up in VE Pro, I can then load a preset, but then.... nothing!

The virtual keyboard in VI Pro doesn't let me press any keys and make a sound.

The sample is loaded in, because I watched it load in in Windows Task manager. The 'engine' is turned on.

But strangely my 'preferences' in my Options menu is ghosted out.

Does anybody know whats going on??!?

6.How can I start to use VI Pro??! Now - no sound from VE Pro!! 4/14/2011 7:19:37 PM

Sorry just ignore me!!

I hadn't downloaded the latest version of VE Pro!!

Stooopid me !   Confused

7.[SOLVED] How do I get VI Pro to work with VE Pro 4/14/2011 7:18:28 PM

What an idiot! I just tried it and it all works now!

See... I am stooopid!!  Confused

Thanks DG!!

8.[SOLVED] How do I get VI Pro to work with VE Pro 4/14/2011 4:57:09 PM
DG wrote:

If VI Pro is installed on your computer then you just need to click the correct button in VE Pro. Makes sure that you have the latest software including eLicenser on the machine.

DG

With me, I don't get the option of a VI Pro button in VE Pro - which would allow me to add an instance of VI Pro.

I just get the old VI button.

I've installed VI Pro as I can open up a stand-alone version. It just doesn't seem to be intergrated with VE Pro for me.

Do I have to re-install VE Pro??

Thanks for any help!

9.How can I start to use VI Pro??! Now - no sound from VE Pro!! 4/14/2011 1:52:52 PM

I guess I can sum up my 1st post as thus:

I've downloaded the VI Pro demo, but VE Pro is still using VI. How can I get it to use VI Pro?

When I 'add a new instance' in VE Pro, it still uses the old VI. How can I get it to use VI PRO instead?

And I also don't see the new VI Pro icon in VE Pro to 'add a new instance'

Much more succinct !

Cool

Cheers for any help!

10.How can I start to use VI Pro??! Now - no sound from VE Pro!! 4/14/2011 1:09:08 PM

Ok, so maybe I'm being stoopid Confused  but I can't get VE Pro to use VI Pro instead of the old VI.

  • I'm only using the demo version of VI Pro
  • I've downloaded the license for VI Pro
  • I've instructed VE Pro to scan my 'VI Pro' folder in the VST options

When I tried to load my old setup (from Sibelius) VE Pro started as normal and started to load the samples, but there was no 'convert to VI Pro...' option on the file menu. And also now, it gets half way through loading my set up (around 10G into the RAM and about 6 VI Pro instances) and the VI Pro crashes!

What to do!

  • Can I somehow instruct VI Pro not to use VI and start using the new VI Pro??
  • Is there a VI Pro .dlll file somewhere that I need to move somewhere?!

Thanks!!

11.Mussorgsky 3/14/2011 9:32:35 AM

Fab thread

As a result (or by coincidence?) after reading it I was looking for some concerts to book in advance (so I always have a few to look forward to!) when this popped up!

http://shop.lpo.org.uk/performances/detail.asp?6578,0,0,0,0

A Mussorgsky evening of music and discussion, put on by the LPO.

Should be an extremely interesting evening.

I'll let you all know how it goes!!

Edit: here's the programme:

Mussorgsky Night on a Bare Mountain (original)
Mussorgsky (orch. Zimmermann) In the Village; On the Southern Shore of the Crimea
Alexander Raskatov A White Night's Dream (Homage to Mussorgsky) for orchestra (world première)*
Zimmermann Stille und Umkehr (orchestral sketches)
Mussorgsky (orch. Raskatov) Songs and Dances of Death (UK première)

Come on dudes! Embrace the Rom coms for what they are!!

Sorry folks... but film making is story telling. Rom Coms are just another way of telling a story - some of which [wait for it... shock! horror!!] are quite good.

Please don't look down your nose at films, while at the same time referencing Star Trek.

Perhaps a new term of 'film snobbery' could be used here?!

Perhaps I could quite easily have the same attitude towards your 'great films' because it's not classic film noir or hasn't been directed by Truffuat or Godard.

Cool

13.Star Wars - Main Theme - MIR Teldex Soundstage 2/25/2011 2:37:32 PM
info_27018 wrote:

I really like to know, what intention lies behind that.

I mean, they are worlds away from original recordings in terms of musical liveliness, sound quality and the overall atmosphere. The usual listener will not enjoy them - he will allways hear, that there is something wrong with it, especially if he knows the live recordings.

Well because eventually, the listener will not be able to tell the difference between a VSL demo and a real orchestra.

Surely the ultimate goal of VSL (and other virtual instrument libraries) will be to be able to create a virtual orchestra indistinguishable from a real orchestra.

When that will happen I wouldn't like to guess (and also not the point of this thread), but by producing a demo of such a well known piece (possibly the most well know orchestral piece on the planet?!) it gives a great indication of where we are at in terms of that goal.

EVERYONE knows the Star Wars piece from start to finish, but not everyone has heard say, a solo English Horn played in a concert hall in Germany. So how would we be able to judge how good the VSL sound was by just hearing individual instruments?

However, I do take Sascha's point in that perhaps, (along with the fabulous demos that Herb and the team painstakinly create, and I am very grateful for these!) we could also have along side these the chance to hear 'dry' recordings of solo instruments and chamber pieces, and then that same piece with say, Vienna Suite effects, and then the same piece with MIR, and so on.Perhaps? I'm not sure - I'm just thinking off the top of my head...

This way we would have a basis to compare, in the same way we can compare by hearing the Star Wars theme.

Anyway that's enough from me!!

May The Forc...

...oh I can't! Cool

14.Viola d'amore - has VSL sampled this instrument? 2/21/2011 1:32:04 PM

Shame! Sad

I guess they can't sample every instrument that's ever been used !

15.Viola d'amore - has VSL sampled this instrument? 2/21/2011 12:44:19 PM

Sorry I couldn't search for this as I think my PC is playing up! So sorry if this has already been discussed!

But I can't seem to find the viola d'amore on the downloadable instruments or any of the DVD packages.

Have I just missed this Geeked or have VSL chosen not to sample the viola d'amore??

Thanks!!!

17.Can I run MIR Pro with this system?? 2/18/2011 3:56:51 PM

Or do you think I will need to upgrade to the 128k version??

Personally, I think 48k of RAM should be enough, but I'm a bit worried about working in 8-bit sound.

Will this hinder MIR's Multi-Impulse Responses??

You have a super 8 print of Duel?

Yep!

Well... my friends copy really. We had stacks of Super 8mm movies at the time which we used to put on Super 8mm movie nights.

We even used to have a few 8mm reels of 'Pearl and Dean' UK movie adverts that we used to show before the films, just to create that nostalgic feeling of when we were kids going to the 'flicks'!!  [flicks = British term for movies!]

Like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ylXLWInAjpI

I think there's an old American Coke advert in there mixed with British adverts and British 'local' adverts relevant to where the film was being shown.

Did you used to get similar old cinema adverts like this in the U.S ??

Actually just thinking about it - I used to love the adverts just as much as the ice cream breaks!! hehehe and people nowadays actually go to watch the film ! How weird!  Wink

WOW! I'M REALLY OFF TOPIC NOW!! I've ruined what was a good thread and am now just talking about ice cream and adverts!!  Ha! Zip it!

Anyhoo William - perhaps try some Super 8mm forums if you need Super 8mm prints of fetures: http://8mmforum.film-tec...matebb.cgi?ubb=forum;f=2

19.RME Multiface 2 and 130Mb/s transfer rate 2/14/2011 10:01:08 AM

kleinholgi, DG and Dietz - I salute you.

Thank you for the comprehensive replies and for passing on your knowledge. Very, very much appreciated.

Really fab, thanks.

Best regards,

knievel.

20.Bernard Herrmann - Unconventional orchestrations 2/14/2011 9:50:22 AM

Yes - I think I stand corrected. It was almost def shot on 16mm.

I think I'm so used to watching Duel on 8mm through my Elmo projector I got it into my head somehow that is was shot on Super8!

You view it over 2 reels! So me and my wee audience get an 'ice cream break' when we have Super 8 film nights!

Why can't they have ice cream breaks nowadays??!  I know it completely spoils the film, but hey, when I was little I used to look forward to the ice cream break soooooo much!  PizzaMovieBig Smile

Did Dennis Hopper initially want to release a 12 hour version of Easy Rider though??!! With just hours of driving shots with cool music played over the top??! hehehe

You'd need lots of ice cream for that!

(And lots of [ahem!] 'special cigarettes')

21.Bernard Herrmann - Unconventional orchestrations 2/13/2011 3:15:57 PM

kleinholgi mentioning Speilbergs Duel...

I love that film! Plus it was shot on Super 8mm !  Super cool... Cool

But a whole feature film of tension made out of, what is essentially, a cast of just two.

Fab.

22.RME Multiface 2 and 130Mb/s transfer rate 2/13/2011 2:27:20 PM

Thanks for the replies DG and Dietz... just what I needed to hear!  Smile

Sounds like a great piece of kit Cool

"Make sure you use a high-quality clock if you want to be on the safe side, and avoid the DigiFace's phone's out (they are noisy) ;-)

High quality 'clock' ?? What is this?!

Noisy phone outs on the Digiface (like hiss and low computer noise to monitors etc I use xlr cables?)  - does this apply to the Multiface?

23.RME Multiface 2 and 130Mb/s transfer rate 2/12/2011 4:44:18 PM

Quick question...  Cool

I hear how good these audio interfaces are, but the 130Mb/s transfer rate compared to Firewire 400 or 800 or even USB seems 'slow'.

Why is it that many people have gone for these interfaces with such apparent slow transfer speeds?

Is this transfer rate sufficient for audio work? And I guess there are other reason beyond transfer rate why these interfaces seem so popular.

I guess there will always be 'the next big thing' around the corner ready to come out... but I hear about USB3 and also 6.4Gb/s transfers etc. Should I be waiting for these products to come out?? I guess they'll cost the earth too!

Any advice greatly appreciated!

 - hey that wasn't a quick question after all! Wink

Best regards,

knievel

24.Dimensions Brass and future developments... 1/13/2011 9:50:27 AM

...so can we expect similar releases with Strings and WWinds???

Should I still buy WW1 or wait until there is a WW Dimensions??

I could use my existing Special Edition for a few wind solo lines, but wait for a Woodwinds/Strings Dimensions release??

Best regards as always,

knievel

25.RAM latency i.e. CL5, CL7, CL9. Will it make much difference with VSL? 1/12/2011 3:58:21 PM

Some interesting points!!! :)   Than you.

Its just that with VSL using the first part of any sample played straight from RAM, if I have a whole orchestra playing at once (i.e. 40 odd instruments or so...) then surely using faster latency of CL5 will play the samples with less glitches than if using CL9 latency.

I understand there are many aspects of improving performance with VSL (better CPU, better sound card, overclocking etc) but regardless of different systems and users set ups, the first line in the chain for every user setup, is that the samples start by being played from the RAM.

If using a 'low' latency of CL9, (as opposed to faster CL5), with VSL will not make any difference, then I will just get the cheaper CL9 RAM and put the money saved towards other parts of my system.

VSL - what RAM specs do you use in your systems??

Best regards,

Campbell
