If you used AudioUnits plugins on the Mac then no, it won't be compatible. But if you have Mac format VSTs for all your plugins you use you can build your template with those and it will be cross-platform. When both AU and VST versions are installed on the Mac you choose which format to use when you insert the plugin.

I've done some testing between my MacBook Pro and Windows studio PC and it works beautifully. With VEP6 it'll be much easier to start a project on the road and transfer it to the PC when I get home. With VEP5 I've had to maintain parallel templates for Mac and PC, which is a royal pain.
I'm also excited about being able to deactivate channels and use my full template on the MBP, activating channels as needed to conserve resources.

Great stuff, really looking forward to the next updates!
3.Minimise to Tray? VEP6 8/9/2016 11:29:02 PM
I've pinned the 32 and 64 bit VEP6 servers to the Windows taskbar so they're always close at hand. Got wise after accidentally closing several times!

Paul, would it be possible to get separate icons to be able quickly see which server is which?
4.VEP 6 feature requests 8/3/2016 11:43:39 AM

Hey, I'll jump in!

How about separate icons for the 32 and 64 bit servers? I run my orchestral stuff in 64 and older VST synths in 32. Separate icons would make things much clearer in the taskbar, particularly with unsnapped instances.

Hi Paul,

I spent some more time with VEP6 this morning and just emailed you some more bugs & suggestions. I haven't been able to repro the color setting problem. It may have been a result of me fumbling around to figure out the folder workflow. If I run into it again I'll document the conditions that got me there and send those along.

Thanks for all the great communication, I wish Avid were this responsive in the Pro Tools forums!

Great list!

Took the demo for a quick test drive this morning. Paul, congrats to you and your team. The update was a nice surprise and adds some great new features (deactivating tracks and Mac/Win VST compatibility address major pain points for me.

A few things I noticed:

Doing folder organization I ran into a similar problem with tracks randomly ending up in the wrong place. Didn't see anything about folders in the manual, so I just experimented until I got the hang if it. Would it be possible to add some info to the manual detailing how to use this feature?

Having the option to select a group of tracks and create a folder to enclose them would be awesome! Even better if the new folder took on the color of the first selected track ;-)

I'd love to have the color palette selection follow the track selection to quickly see what color had been used.

Speaking of colors, I ran into some weirdness trying to set a folder of tracks to a single color, where the adjacent folder and its tracks took on that color as well. Took a few attempts to get the colors assigned as I intended.

I noticed that VEP6 recognizes the old VEP5 colors when opening an existing project, but I didn't see them in the palette. Is it possible to customize the colors?

Again, great job on this update. I'm looking forward to trying it on some demanding projects to get a feel for how the optimized code affects my CPU load!

EDIT I'm on Win7 SP1 with Pro Tools 12.3.1

Cheers,
7.Is it even possible to run VE with Pro Tools at a buffer size less than 1024 samples? 9/26/2014 9:00:33 PM
I'm running my composing template(about 22GB) in VE Pro with Pro Tools 11, found 512k buffer and 3 buffers for VE Pro to be the best compromise of sound quality and latency. I'm on an i7-2600k with Windows 7 Pro, streaming samples from SSD. My interface is an Avid MBox Pro. Things sometimes get clicky on dense passages, but in general it runs well.

+1 Great idea!!
9.Mac Mini Server as VE Pro Slave? 11/15/2010 5:29:42 AM
Hi all,

I'm new to the boards and enjoying all the discussion here.

Has anyone tried using a Mac Mini Server (the newer 2.66 Core Duo with two HD's) as a VE Pro Slave to host VIs? I'm looking for something very small and portable to supplement my MacBook Pro when I'm on the road.

I use Pro Tools 8.04 LE as my sequencing/mixing platform with VE Pro hosting E/W Play and NI libraries, NI Komplete 6, etc. Would love to be able to network in a Mini via VE PRo to get more horsepower.

I guess the question is - will VE Pro and VIs run on the Snow Leopard Server OS? I thought about loading the standard Snow Leopard OS on the Mini, but Apple support says it's incompatible with the server configuration Mini. The other alternative would be to upgrade the regular mini, replace the optical drive with an HD or SSD, add RAM, etc.

If anyone had any experience with minis I'd be very interested to hear how you made out.

Cheers,
