3.MOTU Digital Performer 11 7/21/2021 3:08:33 PM

Hi Steve,

Thanks for your explanation.

Do you reckon the "Sync to VI" for the Synchron player works when samples are hosted inside Vienna Ensemble as well?

I know this doesn't work for sound variations in Studio One at the moment.

I'm impressed by MOTU in this instance and happy they developed such a great system.

I still feel Studio One has a little advantage as in you can right-click any note and apply an articulation from a menu there, which is very quick and useful. But that's just my personal experience.

Best regards

The video is in 4k. YouTube should have the compressed high res version available to watch by the time you see this message.

https://youtu.be/Vo8lNeOfVpw

Here's a transcript from the video.

  1. VST3 - To take advantage of Dynamic Mapping you must load the VST3 version of a supported instrument. Here I’ve loaded VSL’s Synchron Player.
  2. New Map - Choose Instrument with Options and select Vienna Synchron Player, … open the MIDI editor, … select Articulation Maps Setup from the Project menu or the mini-menu,… and load a preset from the instrument. Click on New Map.
  3. The New Map Setup message appears. After clicking Yes the Synchron Player sends an articulation list to DP11 which generates a map complete with Output Mapping. The entire Articulation Map can be edited and altered to your liking.
  4. Sync To VI - Click Sync to VI,… change presets in the Synchron Player,… the Sync Map message appears. You can choose to create a New Map or update the current Map. You can change presets as many times as you want, and a new map will automatically become available.
  5. Auto Remote Setup - Generated articulation maps include a complete Articulation list with Output Mapping. Remotes are left blank. Digital a Performer gives you two options for easily creating remotes. In the global folder, find and select the newly generated map labeled, “untitled map”. Right click and choose Auto Setup Remotes.
  6. Remotes Keys - The enharmonic notes in the Remote list are flats except for the F#. DP11 defaults to this spelling. To change this, change the key in the conductor track. Try selecting F# Major, clicking on an articulation alters the enharmonic notes to reflect the new key signature. Changing the key alters the enharmonic notes to reflect that new key signature.
  7. MIDI Learn - The 2nd option for creating remotes allows you to manually customize remotes quickly by selecting Midi Learn. Click on any of the areas that are highlighted, and it will glow blue. Play a Note on your Midi keyboard, move a continuous controller, or send a Program Change. These incoming Midi event Messages will be understood and stored after clicking End Learn.
  8. Note Color - By right clicking on Notes in the Track Selector you can choose the color of the MIDI notes in the piano roll. Options are
    - event color - track color - midi channel color - or articulation color. You can also choose a custom event color.
  9. Set Articulation - Highlight a note in the MIDI editor and select Set Articulation in the Region menu. The Set Articulation window opens and the mapped articulation list is displayed. Here you can change articulations on a Per Note basis. This menu also appears in the: - Information Bar - the Event Information Window - and the Event List window.
  10. Flush Articulation - The Flush Articulations command is a very powerful command. With a single click the articulation list along with the output mapping will be converted to MIDI Event Messages which are displayed in the Event List.
  11. Remap - Use outputs to convert track events to articulation maps. By Click, Holding and Dragging Articulations you can change their order.

4.YAY **Synchron Strings Pro** NOW available! 9/30/2020 10:16:00 AM

Hi Paul,

I believe a repackage would be much less confusing, especially for people who use "One track per instrument, with all the articulations" instead of using different tracks with different libraries.

Alternatively, and probably quicker and easier for you to do, is to at least provide us with presets that merge both libraries, so that for example I could load up my Violins 1 track, with one instance of the Synchron Player, and in that find all the articulations from SS1 Violins 1 and SSPro Violins 1.

I hope you can pass this along as a feature request.

Best

No plans to repackage Synchron Strings I so far, but we will be listening to the reactions of our users.
We also don't want to make this more confusing.

I have to agree with that 100%

I'll just add this one thing: €145 for the owners of the first iteration feels steep. It's certainly the most expensive library update—the way I honestly see it—I've had to consider. If Synchron Strings I had proven practical, Synchron Strings Pro wouldn't have been released. I feel it should be offered for less to those who originally paid for a library that they will not use again, which certainly is my case.

Keep up the great work

6.YAY **Synchron Strings Pro** NOW available! 9/24/2020 8:52:03 AM

Hi Paul,

Quick question: will the cross grade price from SS1 still be 145€ after the introductory offer expires?

I will for sure upgrade, but might need to wait a little.

Thanks

7.SYNCHRON-ized Woodwinds - Alto Flute ? 6/14/2020 6:04:06 PM

Thanks Paul,

Well ok, I'll have to blend the VI version with the other synchronized instruments.

However, given you've merged the WW 1&2 VI libraries into a single Synchronized version, I was expecting to find all the same instruments. It would make perfect sense and be consistent with the libraries structure.

Having paid the "cross grade" price from one to the other, after having paid for the original VI ones,  I honestly hope you'll be adding the missing instruments and missing articulations (I sent an email last year about this) in the near future.

Best regards and thanks again

You are correct, there is no alto flute in SYNCHON-ized Woodwinds, those really only contain these instruments.

Sorry about the confusiom - but maybe also a pointer to a quick solution?

Best,
Paul

8.SYNCHRON-ized Woodwinds - Alto Flute ? 6/14/2020 2:46:25 PM

Hi Paul, thanks for your reply.

But I don't understand what you mean...

There is no Volume 1 and 2 in Synchron-ized Woodwinds.

?

9.SYNCHRON-ized Woodwinds - Alto Flute ? 6/14/2020 1:56:09 AM

Hi!

I just realised there's no Alto Flute in the Synchron-ized version? Why?

I'm writing a piece here I need it and all the other woodwinds are in the Synchron player, and using the VI version sounds quite different and won't blend as easily.

Hi Andi,

I managed to clone my presets using regular expressions, except for basses and "Strings Full" which I believe have different patches and less articulations.

Thanks

Look with your text editor for lines that include "rangeTo" and "rangeFrom". Remove these lines. If you have small presets, I would remove those lines step by step. If you have big presets, the use of Regular Expressions, which some text editors support, may help. Please understand that I can't give detailed instructions on Regular Expressions. I alwys have to look them up myself with Google.

Best,
Andi

Thanks, I'll try.

Do you mean removing those exact "rangeTo" and "rangeFrom" words or longer lines that include them?

If you mean how to solve the range problem after changing a preset from one instrument to another, please replace lines that include "rangeTo" and "rangeFrom".

Hi Andi,

Yeah I mean how to properly clone presets, could you provide more detailed instructions on this "range" additioni?

As I don't really understand what to do. I can do everything that's in the manual (and I did) but need help doing this.

I need to clone my Violins1 and 2 preset to Violas, Cellos and Basses.

Thanks for your help

13.Preset Cloning doesn't work completely 8/18/2019 11:26:41 PM

Hi, so how should we deal with this problem?

I just encountered it for the frist time, cloning my Violins2 preste to create a Viola one.

Thanks for your help

15.Preset Cloning doesn't work completely 8/16/2019 4:13:02 PM

Midi CCs for the various controls don't get copied either when cloning presets, and have to be manually rechanged.

Legato polyphony and number of voices as well.

Best, Ben

Thank you ben but that's not what I meant.

With Synchron Strings for example, you can create a preset for the Violins1 and then edit the preset file with a text editor an automatically clone that  preset and meke it work for Violins 2, Violas, Cellos etc etc and all the patches get automatically assigned correctly, it's a huge time saver feature.

I would like to know if this is possible with VI Pro as well.

Thanks again

17.Preset Cloning - like for Synchron Player 8/4/2019 10:39:23 PM

Hi,

Synchron Player has a great feature: PRESET CLONING.

Is it possible to achieve in VI Pro as well?

Best regards

18.Synchron Player - Change patches with Program Changes 8/4/2019 6:15:06 PM

Hi,

I want to change patches "vertically" using Program Changes instead of keyswitches, exactly like I'm used to do in VI Pro, but I can't seem to understand how to do that.

Can anyone help me do that?

Best regards

-Mike

19.Repetition Performance Patches 8/3/2019 11:37:06 PM

Hi all,

Could anyone help me get my head around the "Performance Repetition" patches and when to use them?

It's a general question that refers to the whole catalogue (I own and use most of the orcehstral instruments from VSL), but for the sake of argument I will refer to my latest purchase which is Solo Strings 1 and 2 Full.

Here's an example:

Violin 1

- In the PERF INTERVAL folder and in the PERF INTERVAL FAST  I have a Perf Spiccato and Perf Spiccato Fast patches
- In the PERF REPETITION folder I have a Perf Rep Spiccato patch

they sound the same or very similar (even on series of repeated notes) and I don't understand the difference and the different purposes.

I also don't understand why they are not in the "SHORT" folder, like the staccato patch, as they are all short articulations.

Thanks a lot in advance if anyone will find the time to help me better understand this, as it's always been slightly obscure to me.

Best regards

-Mike

20.Pizzicato Snap Velocities? 6/22/2018 2:53:34 AM

Hi,

I have the impression that the "Pizzicato Snap" articulations have almost NO dynamic range (yes I double checked the Dynamic range control and it's at the maximum setting).

I tried programming notes at velocities from 0 to 127 and there's almost no audible difference...why?

Thanks

22.Synchron Orchestral Strings in Synchron Player -- when? 6/20/2018 11:58:17 AM

Hi,

I'm trying Synchron Player for the first time now.

I'm a Reaper user, and loaded the VST3 version of it...every time I change a parameter or a setting the fx window closes itself and I have to reopen it every time. Can you confirm this behaviour?

Thanks

23.Cymbals A Crescendo/Dim not triggered by A/B 11/24/2016 1:38:53 AM

and as a side question:

Is it possible to have a patch with Velocity X-Fade OFF but have it ON on specific notes?

my problem is that on the same patch (for example Snare) i like to have single hits controlled by velocity but rolls controlled by the modwheel...since they are on the same patch just on different notes i cannot find a way to do this...

thanks for your help!

24.Cymbals A Crescendo/Dim not triggered by A/B 11/23/2016 11:12:13 PM
thanks for your help Paul,

i took a look at the manual and it mentions the AB switch only when talikng about A6 and A#6 , does this mean that only those two notes are affected by the AB switch?

i can see now that something changes but i have to say that the decrescendo is very subtle and not very usable in my opinion...

do you agree?

thanks a lot again
kind regards

25.Cymbals A Crescendo/Dim not triggered by A/B 11/22/2016 9:58:41 PM

Hi all,

Can you help me understand if i'm missing something here:

i'm working with Cymbals A from the percussion library, there's prerecorded tremolos with dynamics and the A/B switch should determine crescendos and diminuendos, but no matter how i set it i can only get crescendos...

am i doing anything wrong?

thanks a lot in advance for your help.

all the best
