1.Somerset Rhapsody - question for Jay Bacal 6/1/2022 11:11:53 AM

First: Congratulations to Jay Bacal for a stunning rendition of Holst's beautiful composition. You are a true Maestro!!

Second: I see from your video that shows a piano roll display that many solo melodies have overlapping notes, yet the audio never"blurs".  Are you using a monophonic legato mode to achieve this?

Just curious...

2.2 "versions" of Vienna Instruments Pro 4/18/2022 9:59:21 AM

That makes sense - thanks.

3.2 "versions" of Vienna Instruments Pro 4/17/2022 10:35:21 PM

I'm in the process of converting everything to iLok versions.

In Vienna Assistant I see 2 different downloads:

"Vienna Instruments Pro" & "Vienna Instruments Pro for VI"

What is the difference? Do I need them both?

4.Why not a subscription plan? 11/11/2020 1:42:17 PM

NO NO NO NO NO NO !!!

Subscription models are a marketing ploy to get constant trickles of income from users. Adobe has been violently attacked for many years over their decision to go subscription.

Hopefully VSL will NEVER do this.

I doubt that all your licences will fit on one key. I have many (but not even all) of the VSL libraries and I have to use 2 keys at the moment.

This is something that makes me even more unhappy with VSL's new Protection Plan as I would have to pay for 2 protection licences every year - one per key.

The good people at VSL are very clever and creative - hopefully they can come up with a better copy protection system than this inelegant comprimise.

I think we're all in a much better position today :)

"Better" is the enemy of "best".

The sad truth is that this whole system of licences stored on keys is not great. I have been buying new keys every 2-3 years in case they failed and I lost all my licences. I now have a drawer full of empty redundant keys.

Maybe VSL needs to invent their own secure protection system instead of using eLicenser?

7.Vienna Protection Plan 10/17/2018 9:28:22 PM

Sorry, but I fail to see why this "service" should cost so much for users that have already spent maybe hundreds or thousands of Euros on VSL products.

These are software licences that cost nothing to register or store, unlike physical objects. VSL should provide a free service to customers and not charge this fee every 2 years.

Maybe someone from VSL can explain the reasoning behind this, apart from being a money-making subscription scheme.

8.Need new USB key 3/7/2018 1:46:18 PM

Your VSL licences will only work on an eLicenser device, as sold by VSL or other retailers.

This is a much-talked-about issue.

We are recommended to replace our Vienna Keys every 2 years. I have a drawer full of old ones that were still working.

Do a search on these forums for Vienna Key - you may be shocked....

I hope that VSL can switch from Steinberg to their own VSL protection scheme, and not rely on some other company's system.

My VSL keys have just gone past their 2-year "safe" limit and, as usual, I'm considering having to buy 2 more VSL dongles and throw the 2 that are working into the drawer with all the other old keys that I've discarded.

Please VSL....the sooner you get a new protection system the better.

I should have said: Many people here (excluding tek0010 and perhaps a few others) are angry, frustrated......

12.Another problem with the Vienna key 12/15/2016 10:40:54 PM

You're angry about 4 licences - how would you feel about 50 licences?

We're all quite angry, frustrated and emotional about this issue.

We can only hope that VSL + Steinberg + eLicenser come up with a better solution, or that VSL comes up with a better licensing scheme that doesn't require users to be victims of this mess.

Am I right?

Not quite right. Look at this thread:
http://tinyurl.com/zqaglqz

Regarding lost or stolen keys, VSL says:

Basically every user is responsible for his keys and licenses himself, we're not obliged to replace any lost or stolen licenses or keys at all, like e.g. lost or stolen jewelry wouldn't be replaced unless it's insured.
I'm afraid this means that you will have to purchase new licenses if your key doesn't show up again.

A user says:

- If your Vienna Key is broken without the warranty, you need to pay around 40 Euros (can't remember the exact figure) for each license you have, but not for the product price.

- If your Vienna Key is lost, you might get a small discount on your owned products. But yeah, you'll have to buy it again.

Vienna Key warranty lasts for 2 years, so you'll need to buy and transfer your licenses to the new one before it goes off.

Here's another thread:
http://tinyurl.com/zqaglqz

Paul from VSL says:

In case a ViennaKey is damaged, users have to send it to our office in Vienna (American users: to the office of our distributor ILIO based in California) to enable us to take a look at the kind of the damage. If the damage on the ViennaKey shows signs of external force, he will of course have to pay for the new ViennaKey, and a handling fee for the new licenses (EUR 20 per contained license, minimum fee EUR 30). If a ViennaKey is registered to a user account, it's a lot easier for us to find out which licenses were stored on the Key.

If the ViennaKey breaks within the warranty period (two years) without extraneous cause, the user gets a new ViennaKey and the new license free of charge if he can verify the warranty period by sending us the invoice of the purchase of the ViennaKey or other eLicenser USB Key. That's why we recommend to purchase a new key every two years and to keep the invoice at a safe place.

So, that's why I buy new keys every 2 years...

14.Another problem with the Vienna key 12/12/2016 1:19:27 PM

I posted some suggestions in another thread about the Vienna Key problem:
http://tinyurl.com/hagl28t

I repeat my comments here and welcome feedback, particularly from our friends at VSL.

This whole issue with licensing really needs attention and improvement.

When I first realised that the keys "expire" after 2 years, I started buying 2 new keys every 2 years, just in case. (My licenses span 2 keys)

I now have a drawer full of perfectly functioning keys that will probably never be used again.

Despite this 2-yearly purchase of new keys, I will still have to pay more money to get my licences back if a key fails. If a key gets lost, I will have to re-purchase the libraries at huge expense.

What I don't understand is this:
eLicenser controls the licensing procedure and they appear to have a record of all licence details. (Correct me if I'm wrong please). If they have a secure database, why is it not possible to report a key stolen or lost or broken? Then the reported key could be listed as non-functional which would allow the legal user to simply retrieve his/her licences.

Of course, there would have to be a method to prevent the stolen or lost key from being used somewhere else. A suggestion would be for a regular check of each key by the eLicenser software. If the check showed that the key was reported stolen or lost, the licences on the key would be disabled or deleted. If the check was not performed regularly, then the key would stop working. Of course this would be a minor irritation for legal users, but nothing compared to the nightmare of having to buy 1000's of Euros worth of software again.

These are just random thoughts on the matter - hopefully our friends at VSL will consider these suggestions and either take it up with Steinberg or perhaps even create their own hardware protection system.

16.Broken Vienna KEY and upgrade to VEP 6 11/7/2016 3:23:11 PM

I hate this crazy setup.

I've been buying 2 new Keys every 2 years simply because I have so many products and licences, it would cost a fortune to replace them.

What I don't understand is this:

The eLicenser software connects to a website to validate each licence. Don't they keep a record of valid licences? Surely we should be able to simply do a software restore onto a new key via an online service? If this is not possible now, then VSL should keep a database and provide such a service, with login and password.

At present I have a drawer full of "old" Keys that probably would all work for another 10 years, but they sit there unused.

What a waste.....

17.[SOLVED] VE Pro 6 unusable 8/27/2016 10:57:54 AM

Thanks kohltor !!!!

I deleted the .plist file and now VE Pro 6 loads correctly with all of my Logic Songs - and loads them very quickly!

Thanks to VSL support who have been corresponding with me off-forum - you guys are the best.

19.[SOLVED] VE Pro 6 unusable 8/25/2016 4:28:23 PM

I mentioned this elsewhere but thought it deserved a new thread.

I have reported problems to VSL Support about not being able to load instances when opening Logic Pro X songs.

For me, the latest VE Pro version (6.0.15258) does not load the instance saved in the Logic song. VE Pro 6 just hangs when loading the channels and I have to Force-Quit. I previously had hangs when trying to load VE Pro with more than 1 Instance.

At this time, I find VE Pro 6 completely unusable and have reverted back to VE Pro 5.

Of course I do appreciate the responses from VSL support, but sadly VE Pro 6 is not working for me.

Mac OS X 10.11.6 / Logic Pro X 10.2.4

20.[SOLVED] 8-24-2016 version of VE Pro won't load preserved instances. 8/25/2016 9:54:36 AM

Not quite solved....

I also reported problems to VSL Support about not being able to load instances when opening Logic songs.

For me, the latest version (6.0.15258) does not load the correct instance saved in the Logic song.

VE Pro 6 just hangs when loading the channels and I have to Force-Quit.

I find VE Pro 6 completely unusable and have reverted back to VE Pro 5.

Hi Paul.

VE Pro doesn't crash, it just hangs and I have to force quit. I have the latest version: VE Pro 6.0.15224

I will send the Console logs to you by email.

24.Can't load Server Project in VE Pro 6 8/21/2016 11:23:12 PM

I'm just starting with the VE Pro 6 update so apologies if this has already been discussed.

I'm working in Logic Pro v10.2.4

I created 2 instances of VE Pro as a test and used Save Server Project.

I close my Logic song, close down VE Pro 6 open instances. I then open a new Logic song to see if I can recall both instances as before. When I choose Open Server Project and select my recently saved file, it loads up to 76% and then just hangs.

Then Logic crashed, so I restarted VE Pro 6 and tried to Open Server Project with only VE Pro running, and it also gets to 76% and hangs - then I have to Force Quit.

Anyone else having similar issues?

VE Pro folks: please consider this to be a bug report.
