1.Dimension Strings 9/17/2012 4:40:13 PM

WOW - the violin-demos of this library sounds amazing, congratulation!! I was really sceptical if one would get the ensemble sound with individally recorded instruments, but you nailed it!

...How long will the introducary offer be avaiable??

Greetings,

Patrik

...any news when this update will be available?

3.MIR PRO: Around the corner? 7/1/2011 1:16:14 PM

Hi Dietz,

In another thread I recently read about the possibility to have a second microphone position (From your explaination I would guess that both positions can be blended/mixed together or routed to different output channels, right?) in the upcoming MIR pro. This sounds really like a fantastic feature! How tough will this be on the resources of the computer (will it demand considerably more RAM or is it primarily an issue of CPU power... or both)?

Same question concerning sending audio from the sequencer into MIR... I would assume this would be more a CPU issue that a RAM thing?

And finally... That new feature of VIPro2... that RAM buffer thing for SSD drives... is this relevant for usage within MIR (currently I am not working with SSD drives)? - the reason I ask this is that I always thought that within MIR there is no HD streaming anyway, as all VIs need to be loaded into RAM directly... so would this new feature have any effect on MIR performance anyway?

Vienna MIR didn't offer audio inputs up to now.

MIR Pro will rely on a new version of Vienna Ensemble Pro. Both will offer multiple audio-inputs and -outputs, also via LAN. Both will be deeply integrated into practically any modern DAW, much like a meta-plugin with a dedicated send/return scheme, automation, and full latency compensation (within the limits imposed by the DAW, of course).

HTH,

...this sounds absolutely awesome! Excitement for the upcoming release grows and grows....

And on the other hand, I really like the sound of the new hybrid reverb... but in terms of the upcoming MIR pro, (of cause just from speculating what this would mean and from experimenting with the hybrid reverb plugin during the last few weeks) it wouldn't be a feature that I am personally too much excited about (all the other features you just wrote about seem much more important to me personally...) Mainly because I love the basic idea of the MIR concept of creating a realistic (virtual) image of a room/venue rather than creating a reverb per se. Modifying this image afterwards with a extra plugin would be a different step in the processing and therefore seems much more natural to me; as if you take a live-recording and process this using all sorts of plugins. But doing so within the creation of the "live recording" per se...? I don't know... but anyway, I am sure, the actual implementation you guys come up with will be an exciting and logically completely convincing additional feature....

greetings,

Patrik

5.MIR PRO: Around the corner? 6/20/2011 12:03:53 PM

...sorry for having caused this debate by asking about logic's AU limitation ;-)

but I just have one more question concerning audio routing with MIR Pro...

I have never used this feature with the current MIR simply because it seemed too complicated to send audio signals from my sequencer computer to the MIR slave and then send it back to the host.... so will it work with MIR Pro that I can send one or more audio tracks (or the output of a VEPro instance on a second slave being sent back to the host) of a project that also uses the new MIR Pro plugin directly to MIR (avoiding sequencer output-MIR input-MIr output-sequencer input)... rather like a effect plugin so to speak?

... sorry for being dense, but I don't understand the question ...? :-/

...sorry, I kind of read over this... sorry what I meant was the following:

when I open one instance of VEPro as a logic-plugin, I can only use 16 MIDI channels (or VIs) per instance. As this is a limitation caused by logic rather than VSL software I would be curious, how MIR PRO will deal with this limitation (as my current template includes around 60 instruments). Will I have to use multiple instances of MIR (as in VEpro) or will there be a possibility of extending channels like a multi-multi instrument....

and then, will I be able as in VEPro to route the individual instrument output to a separate bus (I am not sure if I would want to do this, as in a way this seems against the primary MIR concept to me (another external mixing point)... but anyway, it would be interesting, if it would work)?

Greetings,

Patrik

7.MIR PRO: Around the corner? 6/14/2011 4:20:32 AM

Hi Dietz,

thank you for your answers... I guess as long as the sequencer will integrate the latency, this will be a huge advantage.... I assume then, it will be possible to do bounces with MIR pro without manually recording the MIR output as an audio file?

and, do I get it right, that MIR Pro is pretty much adding a "network plug" to the standalone MIR... so that I could use my current setup (no remote desktop), and simply sync it to the sequencer....?

Is this in a way like with VE pro, when I prepare templates and then later connect them to the master...?

But what I don't understand:  with VE Pro I only have so many different VIs per instance... how will this be reflected in MIR pro?

Greetings,

Patrik

8.MIR PRO: Around the corner? 6/13/2011 10:01:44 AM

Hi Diez,

I have just a few general questions

1.) Will MIR pro make sense at all without the new VI pro player, which is not soo much my cup of tea (please... no offense, some features are nice... but I really refuse to use it: having a built in reverb and positioning tool in the player being used in MIR to me has something like going to a good restaurant and ordering a roast venison with red wine sauce and having ketchup as a side)... so if I wanted to stick with the conventional VI player, could I make sense of the additional features of MIR pro?

2.) Will there be a way to integrate dimension brass (also without VI pro), especially smoothening the differences between the Dimension Brass instruments and the previous VIs (so that e.g. a solo line played by Vienna Horn 1 (or even more important things like gliss, marc etc. that are not included in dimension brass) does not sound out of place with a line played by dimension brass horn 1?

3.) you wrote at some point all the MIR calculation will be done on one computer. So with the current setup, the (much weaker) master does only send the midi information and receive the audio data and the slave does the MIR stuff. Will this be the same with MIR pro = calculation will be done on the slave

4.) will the changes implemented in MIR have an effect on VE pro as well?

5.) will the MIR pro sync with the sequencing host (or in other words, whill there be changes concerning latency)?

Thanx and greets,

Patrik

9.MIR RoomPacks Vers. 2 + Vienna MIR/SE 1.3 2/16/2011 10:42:35 AM

Yes, thanks a lot for the free new venues! Both rooms sound brilliant, but I have to agree, especially the Teldex is awesome! But also the Strassengel Church is really just the right in between from the other church to the Konzerthaus-venues! I will have a lot of fun with those! :-) and I guess the overall sound of MIR got a little bit more brilliant, if I am not mistaken... Since MIR is out I really use it as a standard when working with orchestral stuff, but still its level of realizm impresses me again and again, so I think even now, a while after release it is still groundbreaking!

So this update is something like a real teaser for MIR pro, I guess.. :-) I am really looking forward to this!!

Thanks a lot again guys...,

Patrik

10.why so many trombones in dimension brass? 1/14/2011 2:50:48 AM
herb wrote:
You can split all instruments, but the Low Brass are a special one, because of the octave recordings the bleeding of the lower (or higher instruments) is more audible than the other sections. It works absolutely well for building chords, I wouldn't recomment to use them as solo instruments.

...so if I wanted an ensemble sound without the octave doubling in the low voices and switched off the two high trombones of the bass ensemble (or made them play different notes) would that work at all (I mean a really deep dark bass line, not really an exposed solo passage like in a tuba concerto or so :-) ) or would the bleeding be too dominant? Would there be a possibility of getting a demo with only the two lower instruments playing (just to get an idea of the sound)?

Also, I noticed that some of the articulations of the other ensembles were not mentioned in the bass section (e.g. legato)... were these omitted in the bass group or is that just a typo?

Greetings,

Patrik

you also mentioned a second choir collection, any news about that?

12.Dimension Brass pricing? 1/11/2011 8:43:53 PM

Wow, sounds impressing as usual, when you guys release new Instruments... :-) Again, another dimension of sound... but still I have a few questions...

1.) this new concept combined with all those screams for divisi strings, hollywood-like string sound etc. let me assume that you are going to release similar settings for woodwinds and strings, am I right about this?

2.) The package only make sense if you use VIPro, or will I have the possibility of loading each player of one group into a VI individually (then on the other hand, doing so would not make too much sense, would it?)?

3.) The reverb in the video demo... is that VIPro's built-in reverb?

4.) As the new ensembles do not include all articulations (e.g. glissandi), will it make sense to merge samples of both libraries within one player... (usually I considered one instance of a VI as one player of the orchestra... so I would have matrixes of all sorts of articulation in one instrument.... will I have to have a trumpet that only does falls e.g. when I decide to use the new collection for all linear stuff or would it make sense t combine those?)

5.) Finally (and to me the most important issue): How will this setup integrate within MIR? For example, it seems to me that auto-divisi kind of contradicts the idea of MIR's concept of placing the instruments individually on stage, how is this going to be solved? Will there be some sorts of presents for each ensemble?

I am really looking forward to any replies... especially the 5th question is kind of a deciding issue to me...

Thanx,

Patrik

14.MIR and VI Pro 8/21/2010 5:39:43 PM

Hi,

I have just glanced over the VI Pro video tutorials. It looks really interesting, some of the new features seem to be really cool. But just from watching those videos some of the new features and the MIR concept seem to differ, for example loading two different instruments (e.g. Flute 1 and 2) into one matrix, within a MIR setup that might sound rather strange, as I would have different sound profiles for each instrument, also the panning and sound manipulation feature is in this context confusing to me... I guess it all boils down to one question: Does it make sense to use VI pro within the MIR (or is it possible/will it be possible at all) and if yes, can you make use of those new features in a way that makes sense (for the "humanize section" of cause it does seem to make sense instantly :-) )

Thanks for your help,

Patrik

15.MIR default settings vs Hollywood/Studio settings 7/2/2010 12:44:30 PM

New venues? Sounds exciting... what sort of places have you been recording and what will be roughly the characteristics (large or small venues, warm, clear...) of the rooms?

Hi Stephan,

thanks for the hint... I'll check this out...

17.any plans for multiphonics of woodwinds? 3/1/2010 12:34:09 AM

I know these books, and a few friends of mine have recorded all sorts of effects, multiphonics, air sounds, singing/playing and all that stuff, but as you said, it is not the recording quality of vsl and especially it cannot be used in the player.... as you said, no gain :-)

18.any plans for multiphonics of woodwinds? 2/28/2010 11:57:00 PM

Yes I am also desperately waiting for this.... a collection like that would be so great!

would buy on the first day that this is out :-) to my knowledge something like this has never been recorded before....

Patrik

19.New MIR VSTi version 8/28/2009 2:36:34 AM

But be carefull with the Motu firewire driver for Vista 64... I could not get it to run at all (same interface) and I saw several people with the same issue on the motu forum (at least in Germany)...

Ah, okay.... now I understand... sorry for that hassle... I am a bit slow sometimes...

21.New Offer - me being thick 8/16/2009 12:43:22 AM

I am exactly in the same situation... and so if I bought afterwards another standert library, I would get the extended for this as well (the 16th library) for free?

Actually it's not just a reverb. It will host all your VSL samples,

To me the really groundbreaking thing about MIR is that it creates real depth in terms of instrument positioning....You really get a 3D impression of an orchestra playing, if you move around an instrument on the stage in a MIR setting, it will not only move left or right in terms of speaker position, but you hear distances change... hard to describe.... but the stunning thing is complete realism of the actual change of timbre you get when moving around an istrument on the virtual stage...

It is just amazing....

23.Wierd sample repeating in Legato Violin (Performance Set Pro) 7/21/2009 9:50:21 AM

Hi Paul...

concerning whole tone mapping... are the full DVD (wwodwinds 1 etc..) editions also in whole tones or are they in half tones?

24.Price for MIR 5/19/2009 4:16:33 PM

...any news concerning the release date? And one other question: will it be possible to use instrumental presets of the VE for the MIR? Or at least VI matrixes (would save a lot of time :-)

25.Price for MIR 5/1/2009 2:59:31 AM

hi vsl team,

is there any news concerning a release date for the MIR (the convolution reverb) really made me even more curious!
