1.PT11 w/VEP crashes on exit 8/13/2013 7:30:10 AM
I'd love to tell you that I'm crash free. But,,, no such luck?!! I have PT's 11.0.1, W7 64, all VSL on latest updates, and no matter how I exit, PT's crashes now every time. Not sure whats up? And although I don't think its that big of a deal,,, it would be nice if it were fixed. Since I fixed my eLicenser prob, it starts up again every time without a hitch! I'm sure they'll figure it out soon, till then I'm fine as long as it works!
Mike
2.VEP/VIP not working after latest eLCC 8/11/2013 7:52:32 AM
Solved! In looking into the 'Device Manager' at the eLicenser. I noticed that in the new drivers area, that there was a notice something like,,,"this device may be blocked because it (file or device??) has come from a different computer." There was a check box to unblock the device and apply, and in doing this,,, how about that, it now works! (The solo cello I'm using in a piece never sounded so good!). Hopefully this was the prob, I'll know for sure tomorrow when I work on it again.

Thanks to anyone who might have scratched their head on this for me, Mike

PS,, I believe this was do to the fact that I download all VSL files to a drive other than 'C'?? Not sure.
3.VEP/VIP not working after latest eLCC 8/9/2013 11:51:32 PM
I was about to purchase the new MIRx, but thought I'd better update VIP and the eLicenser to the latest version. Now when starting up PT's with VSL plugins I get an error, "the application eLicenser has caused the following error: An important service has become unresponsive. Please restart your computer to fix this problem. Visit www.elicenser.net to install the latest version if the problem consists",,, And then both programs quit?!! Any ideas?
Thanks, Mike
4.Is Vienna Ensemble Pro a good idea? 7/12/2012 8:48:18 AM
VEP 5 allows me to use more of my ram. Until PT's comes out with a 64 bit upgrade we're fairly well limited. Love VEP 5,,, great program!! Mike
5.Isn't VSL just one step from its own... 7/12/2012 8:34:10 AM
I've actually found that PT's with Sibelius onboard works fairly well! But, being a musician, I still prefer to play each instrument into seperate midi tracks (in PT's). Saves editing in Sibelius strictly to notation, and audio in PT's. I do use Sibelius on almost every score though for something to read from, do to old age and not much memery left. Also being a pianist, and starting on logic years ago when it was known as 'Creator/Notator', useing the piano roll became easy. Notator was 1st just a sequencer then added notation. At that time it was made and sold by a company in Germany. (Sorry about the history lesson, just being a little nostalgic??!!).
As for a DAW,, I don't know? There are so many more probs involved in creating 1 from scratch. But with VSL's track record of creating the fantastic tools that they have given us,,, who knows, a fresh new DAW with their abilities and insight could be just what we need!! There is no limit to what they could do,,,,,, Mike
6.Vienna ensemble pro 5 problem installing with pro tools ? 7/10/2012 8:55:59 AM
I found that with VEP5, you need to click on the bottom of one of the VEP vol. sliders, (where you would name the track), and it then brings up the instrument for that track. Hope this helps,,,,,, Mike
7.Vienna Imperial : ON/OFF Sustain Pedal ! 3/20/2011 3:37:59 AM
I teach my students, after a large FF section, to 'feather the pedal', bringing the volume slowly down to the next volume level. Pedal technique is probably as important as any dynamic technique, and I start teaching it around the intermediate level. And although I love VSL products, even hopeing to have 'Vienna Imperial' someday, I have to admit that Ivory 2 now has 'half pedaling' and 'sympathetic resonance'. Two things that have really changed up my technique in playing a piano VI, and the end result in the recording.
Knowing VSL,,,, I'm sure they are probably working on it as we speak, because next to adjustabel hammer and pedal sounds, these two are very important to the realism of any recording!! Mike
8.Best DAW for serious composition 2/22/2011 3:52:58 AM
Sibelius is now part of Pro Tools. You can use Sibelius files in Pro Tools, & visa versa, since Sibelius is now the notation part of PT's. I still find it easier, better, for me, to compose in Sibelius, and then record in PT's. Mostly because I'm old school, I like the addition to PT's, but I've not used notation for sound creation (yet??). Also, some of my instrumentation is live and I just think I get a better mix recording the VI's 1 track at a time. I'm guessing either way, the amount of time editing might end up being close??

9.Vienna Imperial vs Ivory 2 2/7/2011 6:56:14 AM
Andyjh,, sorry for the slow reply. I don't check this site very often. Mostly now and then to check on VEP & VIP updates. And to be honest,,, I don't know how the sounds are manipulated?? The guys that tune my pianos are known world wide for their work on refurbishing pianos, including creating and shapeing the soundboard to the clients desired sound, tone, etc. How thin it is and how that changes from the center of the soundboard to the outside edges!!! (Thicker outside, thinner inside,,, or numerous other possibilities). It is amazing how different the slightest change of the soundboard, materials, thickness etc., will drastically change the tone, and reaction to the vibrateing strings!!! But,,,,, as for Ivory, I'm sure your right. Theres no way they would sample all the variables possible?? I just know that the realism of the final product, (CD in a stereo), is to this point the best that I have found. I can finally create a nice round, open sound in the treble,,, while still haveing a strong robust bass, and have it tranlate to the same sound in a stereo! And yet, again,,, I must add that I have not had the oppurtunity to try Vienna's Imperial piano. Which I'm sure is a fantastic instrument. Someday,,,someday!

10.Vienna Imperial vs Ivory 2 1/29/2011 10:23:01 AM
Thank you all for the input. I wish I could afford both myself! A few other things about Ivory that I've come to love, is the 6 soundboard choices you have for each piano,,, from very clean to extra resonant 2, plus a knob to fine tune each one. And one of my favorites is the hammer noise adjustment. On a piece that is very rubato and more andante in tempo, I use a little more resonant and add some key (hammer) sounds, which opens up the upper strings to an amazingly round warm sound instead of the harshness that can sometimes be created. On a real grand, you can 'toy' with the strings useing your wrist to create that beautiful round bell like tone or stiffen up to create a more harsh accented tone. With an electric, (or VI), you are fairly well constrained to the tone that was recorded. Which is another reason I went with Ivory at the time, most studios use the German D Grand because of its amazing tone when being recorded. I'm sure that the Imperial has this also, but Ivory has many presets that can then be adjusted to exactly what you want to hear, (more adjustments than I think I'll need?!).
I would really love to have 100 velocity layers, but I haven't found it to be a deterrent, only because I haven't had the opportunity to try it. Because a lot of my music is classical in style, I'll have to try the Imperial soon, you can never have too many tools in your box!!!
Thanks everyone,,,,, Mike
11.Vienna Imperial vs Ivory 2 1/27/2011 8:29:13 AM
Hey chilly, I have had Ivory for a few years, and recently upgraded to Ivory 2. For my personal taste, I found one of the settings of the German Grand to be better than the Bosendorfer for my recordings!! A sound that I have been searching for for almost 10 years,(long before VI's were even thought of!!) I would almost pay the full Ivory 2 price for the one piano, and am very excited about the Ivory 2 upgrade. Now to be fair!!! I have only listened to mp3 samples of Vienna's pianos, and so can not tell you one is better than the other?? (Sorry!) But I can say with out a doubt that Ivory will not dissapoint you. I'm sure there are some threads here that will give you the same good info about Vienna,,, as we all know how great the VSL library's are!!!

Good luck with your decision, and your creations! Mike
12.Protools 9 and VEP 11/25/2010 8:39:42 AM
Works great. You can also use VEP for VST's in Pro Tools! Great tool!!!

13.Clicks problems with vienna ensemble pro server 32 or 64 bits with omnisphere 10/8/2010 8:13:01 AM
Hey Patrick,,,, my experience with clicks has always been cpu bottlenecks. I have plenty of ram, so found my prob to be 'how many VI's can my cpu handel'?? So raising the playback buffer in my daw, getting rid of any unused plugs that I tested on a track, and anything else to lighten the load on my processor. And then someday getting a faster cpu. Never know if this is your situation, but I've noticed with the latest builds, and the Ve Pro, and instruments Pro, they suck up power rather quickly??!!!??
Good luck ,,,,, Mike
14.Ivory II, VST 64bit plug in,,,,,, 9/29/2010 8:13:44 AM
I sure appreciate the replies. I tried the 32 bit Ve Pro,,, but still have the same prob, in fact, I selected 'Keyset' (in Ivory), and got the infamous 'Ve Pro has stopped working' and ' Windows will try to find out why'???!!! Ivory II works fine in PT's, and I'll try the stand alone tomorrow. Maybe in setting up the stand alone settings, I'll give Ve Pro what it needs?? (But I doubt it?)I wish I had tried Ivory (1st version) with Ve Pro before upgradeing just to see if it would have worked. Oh and,,,, I do have all hardware/software up to the latest versions all the way around! Thanks again,,, and any more thoughts appreciated,,,,,,,,, Mike
15.Ivory II, VST 64bit plug in,,,,,, 9/28/2010 7:46:11 AM
I'm trying to use Ivory in Ve Pro as a 64 bit plug to save RAM in PT's (32bit!!) I pointed Ve Pro to where the VST 64 bit plugs are, and it loads fine,,,, what I can't figure out is how to show Ve Pro where the 'Ivory Items' folder is,,, which is on my F drive, (all the data, content, and settings). So,, I have the Ivory program up and ready, but can't load the content files! Is there a way to show Ve Pro where that content is, like I was able to show it the VST path??? Thanks much for any help!!! It would be cool to utilize more of my RAM and at the same time save the 4 gigs that PT's needs (and will only use until they go 64 bit). Mike
16.7030, & 7043,,,, 9/26/2010 6:45:29 AM
Hey guys,,, is it necessary to install the 7030 update and then the 7043?? Or does the 7043 include everything in the 7030??!! (I was busy and missed both upgrades). Thanks a bunch,,,,, Mike
17.In the past - higher ASIO buffers settings took care of pops/crackles...but now new issues 9/21/2010 7:27:24 AM
I've also had some stuttering, pops and crackles,,,, never had before?? I'm running PT's 8.0.4 ,, W7,64,, and all latest updates??!! Its not consistent, but annoying none the less! Any hope of the upgrade fixing the PT's prob?? Thanks,,,,,,,,, Mike
18.My latest VE Pro workflow -- using "decouple" with ProTools -- working great! 9/16/2010 11:46:37 PM
I also agree, I'm a little slow with new software, but Vi Pro w/ Ve Pro, latest build, is great!!! And decouple has saved a lot of head aches w/ PT's! .... Mike
19.What means VE beside Decouple? 9/14/2010 2:49:08 AM
Ah,,, of course!! My bad old eyes!!! Mike
20.What means VE beside Decouple? 9/14/2010 12:09:30 AM
The best I can tell,,, is that decouple is a way of disconnecting VSL from your DAW. In other words, VSL won't come up as saved in your DAW, and you'll need to load a VSL program that you saved for the piece your working on in your DAW. (A lot of words to say so little). Someone might be able to explain it better, but I hope this helps,,,, for now,,, Mike
21.VE Pro to get VI Pro functionality? 9/12/2010 7:07:52 PM
Hi Harry,Vi Pro is just an upgrade to VI. And Vi and Vi Pro both work as stand alone or within Ve Pro, seperate programs. Hope that helps,,, Mike
22.Vel ex fade, automation,, 9/12/2010 6:16:12 AM
I'm beginning to catch on, and appreciate your help! Thanks,,,,,,, Mike
23.Midi channels in ViPro? 9/12/2010 6:12:40 AM
Thats what I thought, thanks Paul. I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't missing anything. There are soooo many new options and 'adventures' in Vi Pro, its going to take a while to digest it all!!! And even the reverb that I didn't care for at 1st is becoming very helpfull. Thanks again!! Mike
24.Vel ex fade, automation,, 9/11/2010 2:57:04 AM
How do you record fade, or any other controller? Is it recorded in your DAW, or in Ve Pro? And how does that work??!! Thanks a bunch,,, Mike
25.Viols 9/11/2010 2:48:37 AM
Just curious,,,, how would that be pronounced? Like Viola without the 'a'?? Thanks ,, Mike
