1.VSl SE, VC-8 pizz Patch sounds weird to me at F4 (high velocity) 12/30/2012 10:48:22 AM

Thanks for the info. Sounded like a resonance to me, but wanted to be sure nothing messed on my system.

2.VSl SE, VC-8 pizz Patch sounds weird to me at F4 (high velocity) 12/30/2012 2:01:13 AM

I have a strange sounding note in the Special Edition's Cellos Pizzicato Patch. The note is F4 (F above middle C) - only the high velocity layer. Anyone else having the same problem, or is this a weird behavior on my system only?

Thanks for any suggestions

3.VE PRO new public beta 4657 available 11/8/2009 10:34:35 PM

Now, where I solved the Program Change problem, I would like to use the VST3 version of VE Pro with multiple MIDI and audio ports. But if I set number of audio channels above exactly 94, then Cubase 5.1 crashes. Either right when creating the VE instance or at least if I enable all audio ports (only the first two are enabled by default).

It is really odd, the limit seems to be exactly 94 audio channels. If I keep the setting at 94 or below, all works great. Setting 96 or more will make the system unusable - crashes all the time. It is easy to reproduce the problem on my system. Even a new empty Cubase project and a single empty instance of VE Pro (VST3) will reproduce the crash.

Not sure whether this is a Cubase or a VE Pro issue. Anyone else having this problem?

PS: Is it advisable to minimize the number of VE Pro instances, or is the overhead per instance negligible?

System: Vista 64, Cubase 5.1 (32 bit), VE Pro 4657

Best regards,

Peter

4.Program Changes not working with VE Pro VST3 plugin 11/2/2009 10:31:57 PM

Hello VSL users,

In a previous post I suggested to translate CC into PC as a workaround. However, I thought this would only be possible with a multi script as supported by Kontakt 4 (which I don't have yet, and which might not work properly with some old libs).

But it seems there is an undocumented way to enable multi scripts even with Kontakt 2 and 3! So it should be possible to implement this translation within Kontakt 2 and 3 as well. If this is true, then we don't need any support by VSL to get it working.

In fact, there already exists a script, that is mentioned on the native instruments support forum, that claims to do this (don't know if VSL would allow me to post a link to native instruments forum, please let me know if it is OK)

Will look into it next weekend.

VST3 we are coming... Cool

Hello Paul,

I must say I am disappointed you don't consider this. It would be relatively easy to implement. You would solve a problem for quite a few users. (BTW, I don't understand what you mean with "format" here)

But I am happy you finally took the time to tell us VSL's position.

Best regards,

Peter

does VSL consider to implement to suggested CC mapping as a work around?

So you are suggesting that one would put an input transformer in each track in Cubase that would convert program changes to the values of a particular unused continuous controller (80, for example). So a program change to number 17 would send a CC80 message with the value 17. VE Pro would then need to have an option built so that any continuous CC80 messages received, the values are converted back to program changes.

Exactly, that is what I had in mind. If you use a MIDI insert to transform Program Change to Control Change, then this will even work with existing projects, that were recorded with Program Changes. I think the input transformer will only work if you record new projects and use an external controller to feed in Program Changes.

Example: program it to change all Program Change messages to Note Events in the lowest octave and then use, Key Switches in WEP instead of Program Change. Your workflow is gonna be exactly the same - i.e. you will be able to use P.Ch. to switch matrices etc. The Input Transformer has to be enabled for each midi track in Cubase, and you have a choice of either using a global or local settings. Hope this helps.

This would work in order to use Program Change messages to switch matrices in VSL's instruments. But it will not work to switch banks in Native Instrument's Kontakt. My suggestion would be to add a transformation within VE Pro to translate CC messages into program change messages. (I think a global option to specify the CC to be translated will do it)

At least in Cubase one could add a midi transform to translate Program Change messages into Control Change messages (so even older projects that already use Program Change messages would work). VE Pro can then translate these back to Program Change messages.

Newer projects could use that Control Changes messages directly.

As a result one could use the VST3 version of VE Pro and still utilize Kontakt's instrument banks.

VSL, please consider to implement this! Shouldn't be too difficult.

PS: I think Kontakt 4 supports scripting on multi level. Maybe this can be used to implement the translation? But I heard there were compatibility issues with some libraries when Kontakt 3 was introduced, so this might not be a solution for older libs.

9.VE Pro, preserve - bug or feature? 10/24/2009 2:29:32 PM

I think there is a small bug in the handling of preserved instances. Here is how to reproduce the behaviour:

 - create a preserved instance in VE Pro (I'm using 64 bit on PC/Vista)

 - create an instance in the sequencer (Cubase 32 bit in my case), connect it to the preserved instance

 - now setup the instance with the desired instruments etc.

 - save the project in the sequencer, close it

 - delete the preserved instance and/or exit the server (or reboot the server, let's say next day)

 - now start the server, but "forget" to create the preserved instance

 - load the sequencer project. The preserved instance will automatically be created and loaded

Now the preserved instance is in a weird state. It is shown as preserved, but this is not completely true. If you close the sequencer project, then the instance will stay - as expected. However, loading another (or the same) project will automatically discard any changes made to the instance and reload it from the sequencer project, which I wouldn't expect for a preserved one.

So it looks to me as if the internal state of such an instance is inconsistent. I can solve this by explicitly unpreserving and preserving the instance once.

Unfortunately it is not very unlikely that this happens. It actually happens each day when opening a project for the first time, without creating all preserved instances manually first.

Is this an expected behaviour (feature), or is it a bug?

PS: Vista 64 PC, local connection (no separate server), 64 bit VE pro, 32 bit Cubase 5.1

10.VE Pro vst3 limited to 16 stereo outputs? (Cubase 5.1, PC) 9/25/2009 9:51:33 PM

Here we go: the preferences button of the main server window is not the same

Hmm,

I am  not sure, I don't have a problem with the MIDI ports. I can address the 8 ports.

But I can't get more that 16 stereo AUDIO OUTPUTS from one instance of the plugin.

The server won't let me access any preferences - they are greyed out.

So what is the trick to get more AUDIO OUTPUTS?

12.VE Pro vst3 limited to 16 stereo outputs? (Cubase 5.1, PC) 9/25/2009 8:45:48 PM

OK, now a single instance of VE Pro provides up to 8 MIDI inputs, with 16 channels each, right?

I think I figured out how to address the MIDI channels. However, I don't find a way to use more

than 16 stereo outputs. Can anyone give me a hint where I can define the number of outputs

of a VE Pro instance?

Or do I need multiple instances of VE Pro if 16 outputs are not enough?

(I thought vst3 supports dynamic configuration of the number of outputs)

Thanks in advance,

Peter

Hello Paul,

thanks for the info. You should update your product information pages - I didn't find anything about 3 licenses regarding VS.

Actually this is bad news for me - now I am really thinking about spending another few hunded Euros. And then I need VE Pro (if it just had a bitbridge for 32 bit instruments) and then I need...

14.Vienna Suite Version 1.1 online - including new Convolution Reverb plug 5/3/2009 6:47:14 PM

I am hesitating to try the demo of VS, because I'm afraid I will have to buy it if I do.

Currently I have all on one PC, but I am planning to use a second PC for the samples, probably with the help of VE Pro. The first PC would be running the sequencer, the second would have all the samples. Since my second PC is a quad core too, I would like to instantiate at least some of the reverb instances on the second PC inside VE to take some load from the first system. Is this possible or would that require a second license?

Another question is whether the suite is compatible with 32 bit as well as 64 bit hosts. Do I have to decide or do I get both versions?

15.April promotion SE and SE Plus at once 4/10/2009 10:09:29 AM

Just to make sure others don't make the same mistake: if you already have SE Plus,

then you won't get SE Plus Extended for free if you buy SE Extended.

(Wer zu früh kommt den bestraft das Leben auch manchmal...)

16.April promotion SE and SE Plus at once 4/9/2009 8:46:12 PM

Does this also work with SE Standard on DVD and SE Plus as a download?

II already have SE Standard (DVD) and SE Plus (3 x Download).

If I now buy SE Extended (DVD), do I get SE Plus Extended for free?

(Will I get the Extendes Plus as a download?)

PS: I hate how expensive all this saving is at the end :-)

For some reason my wife doesn't understand how buying more would

help me so save even more!

Hello Herb,

But I am not happy that you give up the idea of providing a "free" plugin along with your libraries.

(Not that your libraries are what I would consider cheap or even free)

Really, without "Preserve" VE is not usable as a plugin in practice.

Looking forward to get hit hard, as it was the case last time I dared to postCrying

Hello Paul,

20.Update VE - presets disappeared 4/26/2008 9:35:14 PM

Dear VSL users,

I updated VE to build 3170 - and my presets have disappeared. I think there was a way to set path to the the custom preset directory in the directory manager, but I can not find it anymore.

How do I tell VE where to look for my custom presets?

Thanks,

21.SE: legator string (orchestral) disappeared 3/24/2008 12:35:06 AM

Just reinstalled - took a while. Only one file was different: SpecialEdition112.dat. Copying the DVD version of this file solved the problem. This is exactly the file that is modified by "Lib-Update_90_Special-Edition_080131.exe". (Though the update claims 4 files have been updated only 112 is actually changed). If I try to apply the update again legato disappears. For some reason the update messes my system.

The odd thing though is that when I applied the library update some weeks ago everything worked. Since then I didn't move or modify the files at all. (I had them split up to 3 drives in the past). So actually nothing should have changed. I did not use VE for a while so I can't tell when it actually failed.

However, I updated VE to the latest version and applied SP1 (Vista) recently. These are the two suspects in my opinion.

Hello cm,

I did that (several times) with rebooting and everything - did not help.

Sounds as though the samples for that patch are missing, have become corrupted or have been accidentally moved to another folder or drive. Take a look at the DAT files in your Special Edition folder and see if any of them are missing (they're numbered 001, 002 etc. I don't know how many you should have in total because I don't have the Standard + Standard Plus combination.) Also you could do a search for DAT files of a similar name to see whether any are in the wrong location. Worst case is you'll have to reinstall all the samples.

Hello Conquer,

I have all DAT files from SpecialEdition001.dat to SpecialEdition113.dat, none seems to be missing. I even compared the files to a copy on another drive, all seem to match. very strange...

24.SE: legator string (orchestral) disappeared 3/23/2008 11:21:11 AM

Dear VSL users,

I have SE Standard (DVD) and Standard Plus (download). Suddenly the legato programs seem to have disappeared. Trying to load VI-14/Legato or any other legato patch results in the infamous "Cannot find /100 Special Edition strings wavs(13 Orchestral strings..." message.

(VI crashed afterwards, VI continues to run) The legato patches for VA-10, VC-8 and KB-6 are missing too!

Everything else seems to work, e.g. the portamento patches seem to work, legato patches of the solo strings as well. I am running this on Vista 64 with 8GB of RAM. It is the same behaviour with VI and VE. Updated the directory manager for both and rebooted several times. Also tried to update to the latest software and applied the library update. I used to have this splitup to three different drives. Copying back to a single drive didn't make any difference. I am running out of ideas.

Anyone else with the same problem - or even a solution?

25.VSL SE (DVD) and VSL SE Brass extended download 3/7/2008 5:40:02 PM

Hello Herb,

a solution would be to convert the DVD license to the download license.

I wouldn't mind if this means I have to download the content again.

(Now, with a fast download:)

Please consider to provide such an option - it is sad that the ones that

where the first to order SE (DVD) have less flexibility than later (download)

users.
