1.Starting an instance without the Automation window open 3/5/2023 9:20:01 PM

Isn't that what the "View/Save Default Window Layout" already does?

2.GUI - slower response 1/28/2023 7:26:45 AM

Yeah i have same behaviour, no matter the daw.

In Studio One it also stutters any time there is an articulation change, making it impossible to record a smooth cc curve live while the Synchron player gui is open

Discourse looks like the same Steinberg uses for their forums, which are working great

4.768 Instruments in one Instance of Vep7 ? 12/16/2022 9:24:08 PM

48 ports x 16 channels = 768 instruments per instance

5.Synchron Player, High CPU, and stuttering 12/9/2022 4:58:27 AM

This happens for me in Logic only because it uses 1 core per channel strip, and the Synchron Player uses sometimes (depending on the preset) many mics, so it stresses the cpu very quickly.

Solution is using one mic per synchron player (very inefficient) or use VEP7 which makes it basically multiproc.

At least this is my experience

I just realized this forum has no mobile version, no wonder i can’t read anything..
7.VSL Forum on mobile 11/4/2022 4:35:04 PM
Hi
Any chance to get a better experience on mobile for this forum?
On the iPhone it looks super small and on iPad super large, and it doesn’t even let me change font size from the browser
8.Smart Control for Synchron Player in Logic 8/10/2022 3:25:40 AM

one thing to note is it won't work if your track is in a track stack (either summing or folder), but it can work as long as you first select your track stack and then cmd+click to select your actual track.

to setep the linking i suggest dragging them out of the track stack first, it's just easier, then you can put it back in the track stack and just remember the selection trick to get the automation working.

also, in the smart control panel, i suggest you rename the parameters you linked for convenience

9.Crossfades Automation on Synchron Player & Sound Variations in Studio One 6/29/2022 5:51:29 AM

In Studio One, Is there a way to keep the chosen sound variation on a long note that has a crossfade automation on for example the vibrato?
If i start with senza vibrato on a note that has soft release/attack, and automate the vibrato, it will switch to normal release/attack.

10.Is VEPro unusable on a single machine? 5/25/2022 1:35:57 AM

One thing that was making everything slow like that for me was that i left on the check for "Release driver when application is in background" under audio system in studio setup in cubase.

You want that check to be off or every time VEP takes the focus, Cubase will release the driver and everything freezes for a few seconds.

I don't have a big template as i am still setting things up but runs very smooth so far, that was the only issue i had and that's how i solved it.

11.Studio One How record 'live' keyswitches and play them as Sound Variations ? 5/6/2022 4:48:09 PM

i'm not an expert so i'd like to know as well.

i haven't found a way to use synchron player in studio one yet.

the best option to me so far is to trigger my sound variations using macros (at least the main ones like sustain, legato etc), then edit the recording on a note by note basis for attack and release for example.

But the way sound variations work in studio one seem flawed to me when working with synchron.

For example if you have a a long sustained note that has soft attack and it starts as non vibrato going to molto vibrato with cc20, when it transitions to molto vibrato it will snap back to normal attack... unusable.

Also VST2 seems broken to me, if i record anything it will record my velocity and speed as curves as well, so my performance will be baked into curves. In VST3 this doesn't happen, which is how it should be.

VST AU has no GUI so unusable.

So i too would like to know how anybody manages to work with Synchron in Studio One.

On top of that any time there is a sound variation change my playhead freezes and skips so impossible to record cc curves..

Only way to get it working smooth is using VEP, but some of the issues still apply.

12.Studio One How record 'live' keyswitches and play them as Sound Variations ? 5/6/2022 7:31:02 AM

you need to set it to "enable keyswitches" and type the keyswitch you want for the sound variations in the sound variations editor, so you can trigger them

13.Synchron Player & Studio One issues 4/16/2022 4:28:12 AM

Another thing I noticed when working with Synchron Player open and using a controller to write automation, i get frozen value every time there is a sound variation change. So if i ride my expression for example from min to max over a few notes, the curve will hold whatever value it is at when there is a sound variation change, for a fraction of a second, causing a stair stepping curve rather than a smooth line.

I noticed that the playhead freezes every time there is a sound variation change and the same thing happens in Cubase with expression maps. In both cases only if Synchron player is open.

In Cubase this doesn't affect the cc curve at least.

In Logic where the plugin is AU this doesn't happen, it is super smooth.

As i said before AU Synchron player doesn't even open in Studio One, so i can't test it.

14.Synchron Player & Studio One issues 4/5/2022 3:24:23 AM

Thanks Andreas.

I know that only VST3 version of the Synchron player supports Dynamic mapping.

When i asked about the bug i was talking about VST2 and AU.

AU doesn't load Synchron at all, so does it mean it is not supported by Synchron player in S1?

And VST2 automatically records any dimensions that are playing when i hit record, meaning if a dimension is set to velocity i will have an automation lane showing up with a curve that records the velocity, same with speed, expression etc.

So for example i will have 2 expression lanes in the midi editor, curiously one goes from 0 to 127, the other one from 0 to 100.

These things don't happen with VST3 which works perfectly fine but means i have to give up layered sound variations and deal with hundreds of articulations instead of a dozen.

I don't use VEP but i could try that workflow and see how it goes, thanks FaRu.

15.Synchron Player & Studio One issues 4/2/2022 8:26:23 PM

Hi

I have Synchron player plugin in Studio One, both latest versions.

Au plugin is not working, it doesn't load at all.

Vst3 works fine. But it auto-generates sound variations, which are not editable.

I can create custom sound variations only using Vst2 version, and loading it in the Vst3 version, but once i save the song and reopen it, the sound variations are different and not editable again. So i can't use Vst3.

I could use the default Synchron presets but it auto-generates several hundreds of sound variations in nested folders which i find unusable and unreadable in the midi editor, because it shows the name of every nested folder.

I could then use Vst2 which also allows me to create custom sound variations that are editable and that i can recall, save presets etc. Also I can stack them into layers so i don't need to create hundreds of them, but just combining the main articulations with the different variations (attack, release, vibrato, etc).

BUT!

Only in the Vst2 version when i record a midi passage it records also the velocity and speed (if assigned to a DImension control in Synchron player) into the midi lanes.

So is this a bug? The Vst3 doesn't do that, and i can't think of a reason why anyone would want that to happen.

I attach a picture showing the issue.

Thanks

17.Synchron Player Articulation Switching 3/17/2022 2:02:14 AM

I really don't understand why anyone would use key-switches instead of expression maps/articulations sets/sound variations (cubase/logic/studio one).

VSL even provides expression maps (at least for the libraries i have), so no need to make custom presets or to build your own.

You can just map remote notes or program changes for the articulations you need to access on the fly while playing, and the rest you can choose from the articulations menu, after you have recorded your performance.

And if you are consistent you can choose the same remote midi messages for different libraries.

I prefer switching everything to attribute rather direction in cubase, so that i don't even use the articulation lanes, since there are dozens of them and it becomes too cluttered.

But i can't think of a single advantage of using key switches, unless i misunderstood something.

18.Synchron Player - Why Limited Number Of Dimension Controllers? 3/4/2022 3:53:50 AM

I find Sound Variations unusable with Synchron VST3.

It has dynamic mapping which means you end up with hundreds of articulations with infinite names that you can't even read.

But works great with VST2 to create sound variations from scratch and you can also layer them.

You can also just create them in VST2 version and then load the saved mapping in VST3 version.

As long as you don't edit your Synchron patch or load another patch, cause that will reload the dynamic mapping.

I just hope they fix VST3 to support custom mapping and sound variations layering.

I was hoping Cubase 12 was gonna revamp expression maps, but no luck, again...

Logic can work well with Audio Grocery X-DAW, but again, a lot of work from scratch.

19.Synchron Player - Why Limited Number Of Dimension Controllers? 3/3/2022 2:59:42 AM

Have you tried using program change for dimension controllers as well?

In any case i think you'd run into issues where the same CCs are controlling dimensions that have a different number of cells in them, as they would likely not be the same amount from instrument to instrument, even worse between different libraries, so the same CC value would choose a different articulation.

20.Synchron Player - Why Limited Number Of Dimension Controllers? 3/2/2022 2:39:17 AM

what library is a good example where the 8 dimension controllers are not enough or where you can't fit in the octaves of all the instruments from the same library?

I tend to use the -2,-1,7 and 8 octaves to set the main articulations, and then 4-5 dimension controllers (velocity, speed and some CCs) for stuff like attack, release, vibrato, etc.

I use one map per library.

more than 8 dimension controllers would only help though, i agree.

21.Synchron Player in VEP 7/Studio One 2/25/2022 8:44:48 AM

by the way, i prefer to use VST2 version cause you can create custom mapping for sound variations, so you can combine articulations in layers. The VST3 creates the sound variations automatically but they are hundreds of single articulations that become a mess to use. I hope they will add back the custom variations in VST3 of Synchron player

22.Synchron Player in VEP 7/Studio One 2/16/2022 3:07:09 AM

VEP7 doesn't support dynamic mapping yet, but I hope they will add it soon!

23.Is this a Synchron Player bug or am I doing something wrong? 1/4/2022 5:41:41 PM

you really don't need to start from scratch and/or touch groups at all.

You just have to use consistency with dimension trees naming and controllers.

I have edited the default presets rebuilding entire libraries and have not had any issues unless i created by mistake the same name/controller for dimensions that were supposed to contain unrelated slots (like a vibrato and an attack for example).

Just saying it is indeed possible and easy to configure it to your liking without going from scratch.

24.Is this a Synchron Player bug or am I doing something wrong? 1/3/2022 9:32:38 PM

The groups are set by default to auto, which means the name of the group is gonna be the name of the dimension plus the name of the selected cell. And you should leave it at auto because that's how the player should work for consistency when switching lower level dimensions, so it keeps the higher level cells.

So you can say switch from sustain to legato all while keeping a vibrato. That can work because of the group.

But again, the groups has an automated naming that makes it work out of the box, so you shouldn't even have to touch it.

If instead you change the name of the dimensions and their relative controllers everything will work fine.

I have made my custom presets starting from the default presets as well and never had to touch the groups to make it work as expected, only dimension names and controllers.

25.Another confusing Synchron player behavior (I won't call it a bug...) 1/3/2022 5:30:51 AM

I already explained this in the other thread you opened about the same issue, but basically you are again using the same controller (DIM CTRL A) to control 2 different dimensions (named X Fades and Vibrato XFade).

You need to assign a controller to one type only of a dimension (like DIM CTRL A for vibrato XFades and DIM CTRL B or whatever you choose for the legato type in this case, so it can switch from regular to slurred legato type).

Also keep the dimension names consistent so if you choose a color for your dimension it will update that everywhere it has the same name and controller.

Hope that makes sense?

Basically any controller you choose is just a way to select the cells in the dimensions, so of course when selecting the cell molto vibrato in the Vibrato XFade dimension you are setting the DIM CTRL A to a high value and since you are (mistakenly) using that same controller for another dimension that controls different cells now anything using the DIM CTRL A will trigger a high value, which means it will switch your other dimension XFades to the higher value, triggering the slurred cell.

It is very logical actually once you understand the principle and it works great.
