1.In Memory of Peter 1/12/2015 10:09:36 AM

Oh no... this is a very sad news... very sad...

2.Time stretch question 8/21/2010 2:17:50 PM

...I agree... and I ask too just the same!  Wink

Thanks!

Thanks for answering, Paul...

Best,

Can't wait! How much "soon"...? Confused

5.Still not getting how Preserve works 5/16/2010 10:30:25 AM

You are right, Logic is an exception here.

Sorry, I think there is another exception in Logic... Indifferent

From page 15 of the manual :

"To un-preserve a Vienna Ensemble Pro instance, click on the activated Preserve icon. Your VEPro instance will then close when you close your song."

This does not happen... to close the/that instance, after un-preserved it, I've got to quit Logic...

Can you confirm, please?

6.The VEPro Instance disappears when... 5/12/2010 6:22:03 PM

Hi Paul! Thanks...

Good news, then! Wink ...at least (and at last!), it was not my setup fault at all!

Tchuess!

7.The VEPro Instance disappears when... 5/12/2010 2:55:37 PM

...no same problem in vers. 4881...

(I'm sure... before K4 installation I've used without problem the last 5436 update...)

I surrender. Lightning

8.The VEPro Instance disappears when... 5/12/2010 2:08:36 PM

...is in "edit view" (I mean, while I've the GUI Instrument, i.e. Kontakt 4, open to load patches)...  Storm   It doesn't in "mixer view"!

I'll try to clear it...:

I've got my VEPro Instance on a second display... Logic on my main one.

I open, into the Instance, in a channel strip, a Kontakt 4 to load my patches... as soon as I click on the Logic's Arrange page, leaving the GUI of Kontakt open, the Instance disappear!

To see it again, I've to open the VEPro Server Interface plugin and click on the VE button... or bringing up the VEPro Server from the desktop... but it's useless... 'cause as I click again into Logic... PUF! ...disappeared again!

If I close the Kontakt's GUI, going back to the "mixer view" in the Instance, there's not problem at all!  Umbrella

I've tried delete Preferences, reinstall the VEPro... no change. It happens in Logic 32 or 64 bit-mode. The last installation on my system was Kontakt 4... could be, strange enough, his fault? (before using K 3.5 I've not the same problem... but if I use K 3.5 into the instance now, and NOT K4, the problem is still there...)

My setup: MacOS X.6.3 - Logic 9.1.1 - Kontakt 4.0.5 - VEPro 4.0.5436

In the meantime, while waiting for someone suggestion here, I'll try to go back one version of VEpro...

Cheers!

9.Notation Questions 9/26/2009 10:30:26 AM

Embarrassed Sorry for the OT, Vibrato! ...it was a long long time...

(Paul, you'll get a mail!)

10.Notation Questions 9/26/2009 9:02:17 AM

May I add that at the time of Beethoven's 4th Symphony the double-basses had just three strings?

So, Vibrato, reading that scores keep in mind it... the (Double)Basses were different instruments from that we know nowdays...

Hi PaulR! How are you? Smile

Cheers!

14.Waiting for new version of Vienna Ensemble for Mac 11/12/2007 6:33:32 PM
Without opening/launching Logic itself:
right click on the Logic icon (the Application)... choose "Show Package Contents"... in the folder Contents, go to Resources folder... the application "Logic AU Manager" is in there (you can make an alias too), doubleclick on it and there you are...
(or, within Logic... menu Application > Preferences > Start Logic AU Manager...)
Cheers...

Great tip, rino.

Different MOTU interfaces are reset differently, though. I believe that MOTU's support pages has the factory default reset procedures listed... otherwise they ought to be in the operational manual that came with the unit.

I would also add that **booting up your computer last** and **shutting it down first** is a good habit to develop. The computer will scan its ports for devices on boot. The nice thing about shutting down first is that (at least in my case) all of my external hard drives are sent a cue to "unmount and park" properly without having to do them manually.

...not so great! Big Smile (at least... not 'till Simsy will jump sooooo happy around his room!)
Yes! ...of course! The computer is the last thing to turn on and the first to shut down... why??!!?? ...someone out there is still doing differently? Cool

Cheers JWL!

Which MOTU...?
If you have a FW828mkII (but I think it work with every MOTU... only I don't know how to do it with other models), reset to Factory Defaults...:
-shut down everything
-switch on just the 828
-press SETUP and turn the knob all to the right (you'll read on display: Factory Defaults)
-press SELECT and then VALUE
-press SETUP again
-turn the computer on

Hope it will help you...

JWL... you're right! ...on DiskWarrior 4, there is the new feature "Repair Disk Permissions"... [Wink]

EDIT (3 hours later): ...sorry if we're going OT (it's a Parallel Cell Big Smile ...ehm ehm... Topic!SurpriseopsSmile, but I've got to write this (also if I've not problem at all... just curiosity!)...
JWL (cm) I've repaired Disk Permissions with DW4 (booting from DW's DVD)... it's indeed repaired some of them... after re-booting MacOS X (still 10.4.9) on my startup disk, the first thing I've done, I've launched DiskUtilities and... Repaired Permissions again (just to see if DW has done a good job)... Well... also if DW 4 has Repaired Permissions... Disk Utilities has done it again... finding some errors... Have I misunderstood your post? (my english understanding sometime gives some doubts/troubles to me!) ...it wasn't in response of my questions...? ...aren't we speaking about Repair Permissions...? Surpriseops:

Even where an OS would change (ie: 10.4.9 to 10.4.10), DiskWarrior is still v. 4.0 itself, so using a third-party utility under such circumstances raises the same questions that using Apples Disk Utility would for the same purpose.

...another GOOD point!

Repair Permission...///...///...///.../// is something only Apple could answer as per your specific needs.

I can just agree with that... there are a lot of things that only Apple could answer, and -i think- they never will! (like the meaning of the "log" after Logic have a crash... we can send it to them... but they don't help us to understand, at least partially, it... Yeah! It's a... Forbidden Planet! Cool)

So to speak...

this http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751 could be part of the answer (in a nutshell: correct permissions are stored in the installer package)...

Confused: Confused: Confused: Surpriseops:
...sorry cm (and JWL)... I've just readed that doc... have I misunderstood this line?
>> Should I start up from a Mac OS X install disc to repair disk permissions?
When possible, disk permissions should be repaired while started up from a Mac OS X volume (hard disk) that contains updated Mac OS X software, instead of a Mac OS X installation disc. Mac OS X software updates may change permissions on some files to improve security. When this occurs, the version of Disk Utility on the Mac OS X volume is updated to account for the new permissions. Running Disk Utility while started from the Mac OS X volume ensures that the changes made by software updates are preserved.

I'm more confused now...! Sad Help!
