I was wondering how you guys prefer to setup EastWest Hollywood Orchestra with VEP7? Do you still create a separate instance per orchestral section? Or do you create only one instance and add as many OPUS Player channels as needed?

Theoretically, since the OPUS Player is multi-timbral, one Player is enough for an orchestral group (given the orchestra is not too large and keyswitches are used). If I use separate instances for each orchestra group, then only one OPUS player per instance channel would be present – and that looks "strange".

Not sure if I express myself clearly enough... however, would be great if you could share your preferred setup strategy setting up EW Hollywood!

This is really weird. My suspicion is that you at VSL do not test on a fresh installation, but "only" update the macOS via the OS installer's override mechanism. Correct me if I am wrong, but please clarify, Paul. But it wouldn't be the first time that it turns out that this kind of testing is not enough.

(Same thing for the forum's cookie problem: you asked me to install a completely new Chrome. Now I ask you to do the same. Great rid of all browser extensions, do not log in to your Google account [otherwise automatic updates will happen] and test the forum's remember functionality. Let us know what your experience is.)

When a notification email is sent, the format is horrible: all the letters are separated by empty spaces, and links won't word, either: Even more, links cannot be copied now, at least not is a way that makes sense, since there are all those white spaces.

Thank you for your feedback, @mavros! – I did a complete new install yesterday night, and today my BBCSO template is working again. I think that my previous installation didn't correctly respect the fact that BBCSO must be installed in Rosetta mode. And even though I followed the guidelines on BBCSO and repaired each and every libs, I assume it wasn't picked up correctly.

As for the "double-click in the finder only starts the software": yes, I have that, too. (I can live with that at the moment.)

My new problem is: how to make the strings play portamento in Dorico? Found this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-XOsH6uoy_A, but, being totally unfamiliar with all those MIDI channels, I don't know how to translate that to Dorico. Somewhere I read that "sustain" should be channel 64 in Cubase, so I assume it must be that in Dorico as well. But doing that does not trigger the portamento. Are you by any chance familiar with that? Are the VSL strings better at handling gliss?

This happens to me, as well, on a completely new Mac with a totally fresh installation of Chrome (no plugins, no nothing).

I reset my whole computer to the factory settings and installed VSL anew, before any other plugins. Unfortunately the problem remains, even though the plugin scan finished successfully.

(Same with the logged-in status on the website / forum.)

A question to you; Paul: How did you update from macos 12 to 13? Did you install 13 over 12? Or do you have a dedicated computers, one with macos 12 the other with macos 13? 

I don't know what else to do and meanwhile I am more or less convinced that this is an error on behalf of VSL. IF there is something else I could try, please let me know.

I am not sure where to look for my error (if it is mine), but after moving to a new computer (macos Venutra 13.2, Macbook Pro M2) and opening the VEP7 template for BBC SO Pro I only get the library's brass instruments. Even when creating a new instance and assining the BBC SO plugin (AU or VST3) I only get the brass instruments...

Any idea why?

The BBC SO plugin works correctly, when used in Cubase. There I can choose whichever instrument BBC SO Pro offers.

thank you for your response! I use macos 13.2 on a completely new Macbook M2. All the installation is new, there is no Time Machine Backup or anything similar involved. I un- and reinstalled "Vienna Assistant" and "Vienna Ensemble Pro" (previously removing many other related things from other folders like Cache, Application Support, Preferences...), but to no avail. VEP keeps installing the Helper Tool, whenever I open it.

One thing that caught my attention was that the plugin scan cannot be finished, because it "quits unexpectedly" due to Steinberg's "The Grant". Which is a bit strange, because eventually it is listed as a VST3 plugin. (See screenshots)

And since you ask: no, I do not have any special security settings, all system settings are the way how they were, when the computer was delivered 3 days ago.

On a side Note: in another post I reported that the logged-in status is not remebered on Chrome (and some other browsers). This is again true on my new computer with a clean and fresh install of the latest Chrome browser. The logg-in status is deleted as soon as I close my browser. When I open it again, I have to log in again...

On a MacBook Pro with M2 Processor a fresh installation of VEP 7.2.1495 keeps asking for the password, because it wants to install a helper tool. This happens every time, when I open VEP.

Any idea why this happens? Can this be stopped somehow?

Meanwhile my BBC SO + VEP7 template works fine, at least in a simple implementation. Some Youtube videos present rather complex setups, with presets and reverbs implemented in VEP rather than Dorico / Cubase. I still have to figure all this stuff out, but first I need to write some scores...

Anyway, what is your approach concerning plugins? And do you do spacial setups in VEP7, too?

(At the moment I prefer to use the VSL SY Prime, I think it is even better than BBC SO, which is already a really awesome library.)

Previously yo mentioned that I can "enhance this range by additionally automating CC11 in a controller lane" . But actually I wonder why this is not done automatically via the Dynamics control lane in Dorico? When Velocity controls CC 1 in SYNCHRON Player, shouldn't then Dynamic controls CC 11? And if now: what does the Dynamics control lane actually do then? Because there are dynamic changes, but I cannot see any fader changes (due to "Dynamics") in SYNCHRON Player?

Yes, I need to go to the extreme with the lines, you are right. And there is also the volume fader on the instrument and the main volume... I'll slowly get it.

Is it in your powers to change the duration of the logged-in status here in the forum? Activating the "Remember me" checkbox does not seem to change anything, whenever I close the browser and re-open again, I am logged out.

Thank you for your feedback! It is a little hast to believe that oboes in VSL have such a small dynamic range. The reality is quite a bit different. Aside from that this little dynamic range as demonstrated in the video is also true für flute, clarinet and even brass.

I will try to do as you recommend and play around with the expression fader (but I still need to learn how to apply all those CCs to my keyboard and how to correctly use them all in together; do I have to record the expression fader separately? Or do I only "draw" this line in my DAW [here Dorico]? These are my beginner questions I am struggling with :-) ...)

Without any "stupid" intensions I would like to mention that BBC SO Pro is way richer in dynamic range. Or easier to handle when it comes to realising them in Dorico. Why is there such a difference in libraries? (Again: true interest on my side and therefore an honest question!)

The Dorico team provides a template that uses VEP7 with the Iconica library. Whenever I open VEP7 and load the .vesp64 file, an additional window opens with the name "VSL Helper". This does not happen with any other library template like SY Prime, BBC SO Pro, HALion...

What exactly is this VSL Helper? How can it be started? What is it good for? Is there anywhere information that I can read about it?

I worked through the article and implemented a CC 28 "track" in the Dorico key editor, but to it seems that I do not get the proper result. There might be a little bit of crescendo, but this is definitely no "ppp to fff" dynamic change.

I made a little video (Camtasia cannot get the system audio while the Dorico audio engine is running, so the sound is recorded via the Macbook mics - sorry for that!). Do you by any chance see, what kind of mistake I am making here?

In the Synchron Player I can see that cc 28 is turned on and off and also how the slider changes. o that seems to work. But CC 11 is not doing anything. Is CC 11 not "managed" by Dorico's dynamic inputs?

I use Prime with Dorico and it works really, really nice! I did observe, however, that the dynamics don't seem to have any effect. When entering a Tambourine tremolo that develops from pp to ff over one 4/4 bar in q=60 there is almost no audible crescendo. Other libraries create a huge cresc.

I am aware that VSL does many things differently than others, so I wonder if I have missed something, when it comes to dynamics in Dorico. So far I didn't find out what. Does anybody have a hint or a tip for me? Thank you!

Of course I wasn't aware that I had to look under "Percussion maps" in Dorico (being new to all this). Now everything works fine with my Vienna Ensemble Pro 7 & SY Prime setup! And wow - that makes so much fun!!!

I do have a "first play hiccup" issue, it seems. Whenever I play my score for the first time, it is never played back fully, but with audible "holes". It seems Synchron Player or Dorico or who/whatever is still loading samples. The second time this does not happen. I know that the 16GB of a Macbook Pro, M1, is not too much for sound like this, but my score is not really big and I run the library from a really fast NVMe. (And Synchron Player also advertises with being resource friendly.)

Do I maybe have to change settings in Synchron Player a specific manner? Or Dorico? Currently I am running in the factory settings.

I would like to use the snare drum and Prime's unpitched percussion in Dorico. But it seems there are no Expression Maps defined in the downloads that VSL offers. How can I access those instruments? Are you planning on updating the Dorico temple?
