1.Key command for decouple/couple ALL? 4/12/2017 4:56:21 AM

Thanks, Paul, I'm still on VEP 5 but that helps a ton.  Same thing.  Thankfully it re-couples ALL as well for that last save!

 Thanks for pointing it out!

2.Key command for decouple/couple ALL? 4/10/2017 2:12:07 PM

Hello,

Is there a key command to decouple/couple all instances in a Metaframe?  I know there is a disable/enable all command.  I work with Logic and keep instances decoupled to shorten save times, but before closing I want to couple all the instances for the last save of the day.

Thanks!

3.[SOLVED] eLicenser is stuck on maintenance 4/1/2017 8:08:56 AM

After almost 20 hours of trying to figure this thing out, all I had to do was move the eLicenser from the USB 3.0 slot to a USB 2.0 slot.  I had moved it because on my case, the USB 2.0 slots are on the top of the case, and I felt the back pane would be a safer place (but all the 2.0 slots were taken up back there).

I'm not sure, but this problem seems to be limited to certain motherboards, one of which is the Gigabyte Motherboard.  So apologies to East West, it was not the problem of their Installation Center that I installed yesterday.

So the above fixed the problem with VEP5 not opening, but Maintenance will still not completely finish.  It gets a lot further.  After 30 minutes I got tired of waiting.  My VEP5 is back on this machine and working so that's all that matters at this point.

Unbelievable.

5.Vienna Ensemble Pro 5 GUI will not appear 4/1/2017 6:54:12 AM

Hello,

In a similar earlier thread I posted about my eLicenser not being able to finish the Maintenance option.  One poster suggested I skip this and just see what happens.

I did a fresh install of the latest version of VEP 5.  Then, just for good measure, I restarted the PC.

On restart, I start the Vienna Ensemble Pro 64 bit server.  The cursor changes to the hourglass for a moment but the VEP 5 GUI never appears.  However, in the Resource Monitor, Vienna Ensemble Pro x64 is shown in the CPU list and the Memory list.

Just to recap, this is after uninstalling eLicenser and VEP 5.  I also uninstalled the East West Installation Center (which the installation of yesterday seemed to coincide with these problems...) and PACE.  Then I reinstalled iLok Manager (which includes PACE), eLicenser and VEP5.  Still can't get VEP5 to fully come to life.

Any suggestions?  Thanks!

Paul

6.[SOLVED] eLicenser is stuck on maintenance 4/1/2017 4:57:20 AM

Yeah, fair enough, I could just skip the maintenance and see if VEP 5 works again.  I was just concerned that the fact that the maintenance step could never finish was proof that something was off about my system.  But I'll try that and see.

If that doesn't work, I may just try uninstalling a lot of stuff to see if I can get back to square one.  I was thinking of upgrading to VEP 6, I just didn't want to right before this big project I'm about to start.  But that could be the answer as well...

Thanks for th reply!

7.[SOLVED] eLicenser is stuck on maintenance 4/1/2017 12:39:07 AM

Hello all,

One of my computers in my rig' eLicenser is stuck doing Online Sync and Maintenance.

This computer is a Windows 7 Pro AMD with 32 GB RAM.  I houses Hollywood Strings and has been working great for over a year with Vienna Ensemble Pro 5.  I have the latest version installed.

Yesterday I downloaded the East West Installation Center to update PLAY and HW Strings.  I fear this must have messed something up.  After that, I could not get VEP 5 to open completely - Resource Monitor would sho it was running, but there was no GUI.  So I opened eLicencer Control Center, and it only showed empty white panes, no assests, nothing.

So I downloaded the latest eLicenser installer and reinstalled the Control Center.  After this, my eLicenser and it's assets showed up, and the program wanted to do Maintenance, which I allowed.  All was well, but after about a 5th of the way down the progress bar, it stopped.  I waited 30 minute (longer than I've ever waited for it) and then gave up and did a force quit via Restart.

At restart I uninstalled the East West Installation Center, PACE, eLicenser and VEP 5.  I did a Windows update to make sure I had all the latest updates.  Then I restarted again.

On restart, I installed the latest iLok Manager (which also installed PACE) and reinstalled eLicenser.  All my assets in both my iLok and eLicenser showed up in their respective control centers.  After this I attempt to do the Maintenance again.  Now after 45 minutes it is still stuck about a 5th of the way across the progress bar.  The graphic light bolt is still moving from left to right in the green part of the progress bar, but no additional progress is being made.  I haven't even reinstalled Vienna Ensemble PRo 5.  Something is wrong, I just don't know how to proceed at this point.

Thanks for any ideas!

Paul

8.EW Play 4.3.2 Not testing/scanning/working 2/20/2016 4:36:43 PM
They have a new installer central app you have to download and use now, to get Play to see
everything. It's similar to Native Instruments Central, or Avid's App Manager. I can't recall what it's
called, but it's there on the update page. It will reinstall Play for you plus any library package
Play can't see. It puts a path for the libraries in the Favorites section of Play

The process wasn't perfect for me. After updating Play and all my libraries, my Metaframe
with Hollywood Brass Horns & Trumpets wouldn't recall correctly. It was loading French Horns when it said it
couldn't find a Tuba sample (!). I ended up having to rebuild that VEP Project.

9.EW Play 4.3.2 Not testing/scanning/working 2/19/2016 10:54:04 PM

Okay finally got it working.

I had to reinstall VE Pro 5, then rescan.  Now it all works as before.  Whew!

Thanks

Paul

10.EW Play 4.3.2 Not testing/scanning/working 2/19/2016 10:13:01 PM

Hello,

I just did the Play 4.3.2 update and my VE Pro template will not load any Play's any longer.  I have the latest version of VE Pro 5.  AND MOST importantly:  Play will open just fine and work in stand-alone mode.

When looking in the Preferences, PLAY is not listed in the VST 64 bit Available Plugins.

The EAST WEST folder is listed in VST Settings

If I RESCAN ALL everything will successfully scan except PLAY.  At "Testing VST plugin play_VST_x64" The scan process will stop, and eventually I will get "Vienna Ensemble Pro has stopped working".

I've re-downloaded and reinstalled Play a couple of times now.  ANYONE using this version of Play successfully?  I may have to go back a version.

Thanks

11.Question as I update my Orchestra Template 2/17/2016 6:43:50 AM

Thanks for your reply!

With the exception of running VEP5 locally, I thought the whole point of the new Multiport Templates was to use fewer VEP5 instances on the slaves.  There's even a separate page in the new manual about merging existing VE Pro .viframes (page 54).  At the bottom of page 47: "To take advantage of the multiple ports available with the Multiport Template, you can now merge multiple VE PRO instances to one instance."

Am I missing something?  Is the best way still to have many instances of VEP5 on slaves for various instrument groups?

In my old Logic 9 orch template, I did use multiple instances of VEP5 - one less than the total cores of the computer I was using as slave, so on an 8 core PC I would use 7 instances of VEP5.  And again these would be grouped by instruments like Vln I, Vln II etc.

I'd love to know what the consensus is and how people are using the new Multiport.

Thanks

Paul

12.Question as I update my Orchestra Template 2/16/2016 4:43:18 PM

Hello, I'm finally at a point where I can spend the time to update my Logic orchestral template.  I haven't done this since late Logic 9 and I want to tweak a new one for Logic X taking advantage of the new "Comfortable Multiport Template".  My current template uses the old expanded Multiport Environment and was built in Logic 9 following the Tobias Escher template philosophy.  Logic X has worked pretty well opening this old template and using it, but from what I'm reading, I can make a lot of improvements using the new templates, building from scratch in Logic X.

My sig below shows my rig right now.  I have a master Mac Pro with 3 slaves: Another Mac Pro and two PC's.  I'll soon be adding another two PC's, for a total of 5 slaves.

So far, from reading and looking at the templates, it sounds like now I should just have one VEP 5 instance per computer/slave and load those single instances up with everything I need.  Right now, for instance, on the PC housing the Hollywood Strings library, I have one VEP 5 instance per section (Vlns I, Vlns II, Violas, Celli, Basses and a "Full Strings" instance for a total of six instances).  But now, for a new template is my assumption correct?:  Use one VEP 5 instance per computer?  And use the MERGE function to combine my current multiple VEP 5 instances.

So I'll be using the new 6x16 template, using one stream per computer.  Good?

Let me know if I'm on the right track.  The rest seems very straightforward.  The new templates look amazingly clean and well organized.  Thanks for all the work that went into these!

13.Logic X Export Tracks As Audio - Not with VE Pro 5? 6/23/2015 8:01:46 PM

Hello,

How do you folks export your midi mockup tracks as audio files when getting a session ready for music prep people?  In the past I've just done it a track at a time with the bounce command.  But would love a global one command way to do it.

I have a large Orchestral template that I use (it was made in Logic 9, I'm now on 10 - I have not updated my multiport environment yet with the new one that came out in Feb this year).

Logic's features "Export Tracks As Audio" and "Export Regions As Audio" seem to be limited if you are using VE Pro 5 in a multi computer setup, it wants to see things that are attached to channel strips in the mixer.  So if you have Violin I and Violin II returning to the same Aux in the mixer, they get mixed together (if you can get it to work at all).  Bounce in place does not see the external midi tracks that refer to a VE Pro instance either.  It only seems to like "normal" Logic tracks that have a single instance of a plugin.

Plus, Export Tracks As Audio and Bounce In Place both want to start from bar 1.  Not good when the cue starts in bar 572.  Neither the region itself or the cycle bar will work to set the start time, as in a normal bounce.

It seems my only option is to bounce what I need in separate bounces.  Have you all found a way to do this in a single command?

Thanks!

Paul Mills

14.Will New Logic 10.1 Multi-Port replace Logic 9 Escher one? 5/7/2015 8:37:38 PM

I have a fairly large orch template built using the instructions by Tobias Escher and the earlier extended Logic Multiport created for Logic 9.

I'm using the latest version of Logic X now, and in the beginning I just opened my Logic 9 Orch Template with it and resaved it.  This has worked okay for the last year, but I'd love to have the advantages of this new improved Multiport.

Will I need to start from scratch on a new Orchestral template ( I would suppose so) if I want to make use of this newly updated and improved Mulitport?  My rig right now involves a master Mac Pro and 1 slave Mac and 2 slave PC's - so any work I can save (or avoid) would be amazing.

Thanks

Paul Mills

15.Updated VEPro 5 no longer connects to Mac slave 6/11/2014 3:49:36 PM

Nevermind, found it on the Web.

For others who didn't know, 127.0.0.1 is a special "loop back address" for a computer to access it's internal TCP/IP network resources.

16.Updated VEPro 5 no longer connects to Mac slave 6/11/2014 3:36:49 AM

Okay, pretty straightforward for the slaves, I assign a fixed IP address using the one that the plugins are currently connected to.

The server on the Master computer is different - the IP address of the master computer is

192.168.1.24

But the plugins using this VEPro on the Master computer are connected to Local Host at

127.0.0.1

I assume I still use the 192.168.1.24 as the fixed IP address - will it automatically assign the same Local Host address?  Or do I need to type this in somewhere else to ensure future connectivity?

Thanks

Yes, insanely lucky for over 18 months....

17.Updated VEPro 5 no longer connects to Mac slave 6/11/2014 1:02:09 AM

Was that too many questions?

18.Updated VEPro 5 no longer connects to Mac slave 6/6/2014 4:05:27 PM

As I said a couple of times earlier in this thread, Manual reconnect works and when saved and recalled, the connections stay.

1.)  When you say "the IP address of your server has changed" you mean, JUST the IP address of the Mac slave, as all the VE Pro connections on my Master computer and PC slave work correctly.

2.)  Not trying to be a smart A here, this is a real question:  What would cause the IP address to change at this point on the one Mac Slave computer and make all this not work, when it's been working steadily for over a year and a half through many film projects, VE PRO updates, OS updates, hard drive changes etc?  What makes an IP address change, if nothing is added or taken away from the private LAN that the 3 computers are on?  Plus, the Master and PC Slave have never changed.  I know it's not your job to teach me everything about computer networking, so thanks for your patience.  Just trying to learn.

3.)  IS there a way to know what IP address the 7 VE Pro Instances assigned to the Mac Slave in my Logic X projects are actually looking for?  The IP address stored with the Project?  Because it would be way easier to just change it to what they want, rather than reconnecting all seven of the instances assigned to the Mac Slave.

4.)  Finally, to avoid this in the future, are you saying that I should go to the Network Prefs pane on the Mac and change (on the first page there) from "using DHCP" on "Configure IPv4" to "using DHCP with manual address" or just "Manually"?  Or do I need to go to the Advanced page and change things there as well.

And I suppose I should to equivalent changes to my Master and the PC slave?  Does the original manual recommend fixed IP addresses?  I feel silly for missing that in both the VE Pro manual and Tobias Escher's tutorials!

Thanks

19.Updated VEPro 5 no longer connects to Mac slave 6/5/2014 5:06:29 PM

Any further ideas on why this is continuing to happen, and only on the one Mac Slave?

Again, all the names of instances are the same, unchanged.  All the instances are available on the network.  The computers communicate with each other.  But Logic projects will no longer automatically connect to the instances in the Metaframe.  Manual reconnection works fine.

What would have affected the Mac and not the PC (slave)?  And why now, and never in the last 18+ months?

I'd love to figure this out, so that it does not ever happen again.

Also, in the original set up of my system (over 18 months ago) I used all the instructions here and in the VE Pro Manual, plus the excellent tutorials by Tobias Escher. All has been fine until the June 2 update.

Thanks

20.Updated VEPro 5 no longer connects to Mac slave 6/3/2014 8:39:13 PM

Thanks for the reply, Paul

The IP address of my Mac Slave is 192.168.1.18 and that has never changed.  I am using DHCP  Let me know if there are settings you want me to check.

However, I don't see how this can be it, when I have been working over 18 months on this same setup (Master Mac Pro, Mac Slave, PC Slave) with no Logic/VE Pro 5 recall problems.  This through many VE Pro updates, OS updates, Logic updates (even going from Logic 9 to 10) etc etc.  It has always just worked ;-)

Not until I updated to your new version this past Monday morning (Tennessee US) did these problems begin to occur.

21.Updated VEPro 5 no longer connects to Mac slave 6/3/2014 8:04:44 PM

Any ideas on this?

Again, my PC slave has no problem connecting to old Logic sessions via the newly updated VEPro 5.  Master Mac computer and PC slave work as expected.

And the connections are available on the network, properly named etc.  I can connect to them manually on the Mac slave.  And once done and resaved, all works as expected.  But it never works on a recalled project since the new update (5.3.13240)

22.Updated VEPro 5 no longer connects to Mac slave 6/2/2014 6:51:24 PM

Hello,

This morning I returned from vacation and VE Pro 5 alerted me to an update for my 3 computers running it.  So I updated to the latest 5.3.13240 on all three machines.

As you can see in my sig, The master computer is a Mac Pro 12 core, and I have a Mac Pro 8 core slave and a Windows PC slave.

After updating, I opened up several cues from a movie I'm scoring - these are finished cues, and I've worked on them on and off early last week and before - all working great.

Today, after updating VE Pro, the Mac Slave VE Pro will not automatically connect any more.  The Metaframe is up, with all its contents.  And ALWAYS before, it just connected automatically when I opened my template, or a cue in progress.  The PC slave still connects as always, perfectly.

I can go through my template/cue and reconnect the 6 VE Pros that are housed in the Metaframe on the Mac Slave manually, and all is well.  But it no longer connects automatically the first time I open something saved from the past work.

Once I manually reconnect all the VE Pros in my Logic session to the Mac Slave, and re-save, it will then reconnect when I reopen that re-saved version.

Something changed in the update, and it's only affecting my Mac Slave, not the PC Slave - Any way to get that connectivity back, or am I going to have to reconnect the first time I open old projects?

Thanks

23.Loading older Viframes and Mframes with Kontakt 7/5/2013 5:44:46 PM

This is probably obvious, but

I needed to load an older VIframe that housed various Kontakts.  This was back a year or two and these were made with Kontakt 4

I of course since have upgraded to the current Kontakt 5.2.  So now when I try to load those older VIframes, I get the message that the Kontakt 4 plugin cannot be opened.

Is the solution to reinstall Kontakt 4?  I suppose you can have both 4 and 5 on the same system?

Thanks!

24."Missing Plugin" , "Could not load plugin" EW PLAY errors on new PC Slave 6/11/2012 5:25:19 PM

Correction - I did find some 2011 entries about being tired of getting the "Could not load plugin" message.  Seemed to apply to Kontakt and no real solution seemed to be there...

Sorry if I'm missing something.

AGAIN - My master computer sees the PC and VE Pro server, but none of the PLAYs will load.  It's an instance that only houses Plays (Hollywood Strings, EWSO Platinum),

25."Missing Plugin" , "Could not load plugin" EW PLAY errors on new PC Slave 6/11/2012 5:20:25 PM

Anybody out there?

I did seach this forum,  but nothing pertinent newer than 2010 seemed to show up, and it all seemed to have to do with updating PLAY - Play has had several updates since 2010.

Thanks for any help I can get!
