Thank you for your reply! I really have no clue though I have not touched the auto-saving intervals of either Pro Tools or VEP. But the saving that happens does happen on the interface of VEP with the "saving automation" and "saving metadata" with the VEP Server window going on top of Pro Tools when it does so. I really can't tell as this is the first time this has happened. VEP and its instances were already in a session I had been working on since last year, but this issue only started exhibiting today. I read on another VSL thread regarding the Auto-Save interval in VEP, but I haven't also changed that since my session last year. I did check anyway, but it's still the same.

Might there be additionally something I'm missing? I was considering redoing my whole VEP template but still hoping there might be a workaround or a better solution?

Hi, folks!

Hope someone can help? Before anything, here are my specs: Mac M1 Mini, OS Big Sur 11.6, Pro Tools Studio (2022.9), the latest Vienna Assistant (7.2.1515).

My issue is this: VEP Server Window intermittently quickly flashes and then goes either on top of all my Pro Tools windows (covering them all) or at least on top of one of them (usually, the Pro Tools window I have above) thereby covering that particular Pro Tools window.

I took 2 screen recordings to catch these instances and also was able to take screenshots of the processes that appear in pop-up windows that also just quickly flash. The processes I was able to take snapshots of were "Saving metadata" and "Saving automation". This has has never happened to me before, so I'm not quite sure what I may have possibly erroneously committed along the way.

I have attached 2 videos and 2 photos for reference. Hopefully, someone can help sort me out.

Also, in answer to your previous question regarding the Channel Set issue occurrence, this is the first time it has happened (though I've only started using Channel Sets a few days ago). I did try on another Channel Set just to test and that worked fine. It was only this one particular Channel Set I had imported.

I do hope it's nothing serious.

Coincidentally, may I kindly ask for help with my 1st concern above as well? The one about a loaded channel set not responding to midi, whether from the VI Pro onscreen keyboard (via mouse clicks)  or from my controller? The keys on the onscreen keyboard are unresponsive (no keys lighting up, no audio). I'm sure I'm overlooking something simple?

I didn't exactly find direct solutions, but here's what I did, for others who might be experiencing these:

1. I forgot to state that I used the Channel Sets for issue #1, but it didn't work for me for some reason (ie, non-responsive track). Never found out why, so I just did the track from scratch by inserting VI Pro and recreating the instrument track settings.

2. I just tried clicking on other instrument track inserts in the VEP instance which somehow brought the instrument view tab back.

I hope it's alright that I ask help on 2 issues I'm experiencing in the Vienna Ensemble Pro 7 (v7.2.1481) environment. I'm running Pro Tool Studio 2022.9 on a Mac Mini M1 running Big Sur 11.6.

1. My Double Basses in VI Pro show up, and I can even assign articulations; however, it will not play (no darkening of keys on the keyboard in VI Pro, seemingly unresponsive) and no audio comes out as well on my monitor. There is midi activity in Pro Tools when I press on keys in its assigned midi track. I think I'm missing something that's supposed to be simple and obvious? 

2. In one of my 3 instances in VE Pro 7, the Instruments view tab (usually accessible near the lower left of the VE Pro UI) suddenly disappeared. But the said tab is present in the other instances. Might I have accidentally clicked on something that had caused this?

Hope someone can help out. I don't remember how to attach photos here, but I'll attempt to do so, for visual reference.

Apologies for having unnecessarily posted, but good news is that I was able to resolve my issue with a very simple step that I had apparently overlooked. I didn't realize that I actually also had to install Vienna Instruments Pro, not just Vienna Instruments Pro for VI. After that, my SE Vol. 1 (iLok) instruments appeared in the player. All's good now.

Hope someone can help. Before anything, here are my specs: Mac M1 Mini, OS Big Sur 11.6, Pro Tools Studio (2022.9), the latest (within 24 hours) Vienna Assistant, latest "Vienna Instruments Pro for VI", and latest Special Edition Vol.1 (both from Vienna Assistant).

Before making the switch to iLok, I had been using Special Edition Vol. 1 with the NON-PRO Vienna Instruments. After making the iLok switch and downloading the latest "Vienna Instruments Pro for VI" as well as the Special Edition Vol. 1 (both from Vienna Assistant), I accessed an old Pro Tools session and opened it in Pro Tools Studio. VI Pro for VI did open up with the articulations, but they were in red and there were no instruments in Patches (as well as Preset and Matrix). (I'll try attaching a photo below though I can't figure out how to do so.)

The Special Edition Vol. 1 from Vienna Assistant (i.e., the downloaded "VI SE Vol 1 - iLok" folder) is on my external drive (as the specified content location in Vienna Assistant) and has been authorized in iLok. I have rebooted my Mac, too. But still, no luck.

Would there be anything I'm possibly missing or doing wrong? I hope someone can help clarify.

The USB key provides the only authorization you'll need. No de-authorization required. You may want to uninstall SE Vol 1 from the Lion partition to save space, but this is not required.

Use the (Directory Manager) to tell your system where your samples are. I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to keep your samples on an external drive.

Logic Pro will be on the new partition NOT the samples.

Apologies for opening up this thread once more. 

I was able to install the software version you recommended and it did reveal the newer Vienna Instruments GUI/interface in VE (non-pro).

I can open Vienna Instruments StandAlone app, and when I open Vienna Ensemble in Pro Tools 10, I am able to load Vienna Instruments as well as see, load, and play its patches.

However, my Vienna Instrument plug-in has disappeared from my plug-ins list in Pro Tools. I checked the plug-ins folder and saw that the RTAS version (.dpm file) has disappeared. (The Vienna Ensemble .dpm is still intact as well as the Vienna Ensemble .component, .vst, and .vst3 files.) 

I can open Vienna Instruments StandAlone app, and when I open Vienna Ensemble in Pro Tools 10, I am able to load Vienna Instruments in there as well as see, load, and play its library patches.

So, as a trial workaround, I tried to wrap the Vienna Instrument VST via FXpansion's VST-to-RTAS app and succeeded in doing so. I am now able to see it in the Pro Tools plug-in list and am able to load it. The GUI does load in Pro Tools; however, nothing is clickable in the GUI and so it is, for now, unusable.

I thought maybe I'd just uninstall this newer VI/VE Software 5.4 (OSX 10.6.8) build 16488 and reinstall the older version I had, but the problem is that the older installers don't seem to be in the MyVSL downloads archive.

Could I possibly ask for your help once more in resolving this issuse that had just come up?

I have just installed my VSL Vienna Special Edition Vol. 1 on my iMac running High Sierra 10.13.6. If it's alright, I would like to ask and confirm if my VSL version is, indeed, NOT compatible with Garageband v10.3.1 ? 

Vienna Instruments and VE (not Pro) show up as plug-ins in Garageband, but errors occur:

1. When I load Vienna Instruments in Garageband, the GUI seems to load normally, BUT there is no list of instruments/patches.

2. Also, when I try to load VE, the opening graphics come up but immediately follwed by a series of error notification pop-ups that have to do with the eLicenser and such. 

I've searched the web and the VSL Community forum and have found that since around 2014 (at least the pertinent posts that turned up were from around that time), the VSL and Garageband already seem not to have been exactly compatible. Some mentioned the "sandbox" thing. I'm not a techie guy, so I don't know what to conclude as fact. 

However, just so I don't pull my hair out unnecessarily, I do wish to confirm if this is an established fact?

May I possibly ask how to go about installing and authorizing on a new partition in my iMac internal hard disk drive that would run on a different OS (High Sierra) from the original internal hard disk drive (partition) which is running Lion?

I am running Lion 10.7.3 (so old, I know) on a mid-2011 iMac and run VSL with the Vienna Key. I currently have VI Special Edition Vol 1 installed in my iMac's internal hard disk drive that has yet to be partitioned and also currently have the accompanying libraries/content on an external drive. 

When I do partition, which should be soon, I plan to install High Sierra and use VI Sp Ed 1 on that new partition (on that very same iMac computer) for use in Logic Pro.

So, my question is: How should I go about the install and authorize procedure in this scenario? Would I have to uninstall and "un-authorize" VSL from my HDD partition running Lion and then install and authorize on the new partition running High Sierra?

I read another thread in the VSL Community where someone inquired about moving VSL to a new Mac machine, and the response was this: "You will not need a new key.  You can just plug in your external hard drive with the samples to your new computer.  Then plug in your current Key to the new computer." The reply was very clear; however, I'm not sure how it would apply or be modified taking into consideration my scenario that I will be running on a different partition with a different OS on the same machine/computer where, in another parition running a different OS, VSL had been previously installed.

Apologies for the lengthy post. I'm currently in-transit with my set-up and have had little luck searching the web, being a non-techie. 

I would appreciate any kind of help.

Sincere apologies for re-opening this thread.  If it's alright, I would just like to clarifiy some things regarding the Vienna Instruments & Vienna Ensemble Software 5.4 (OS X 10.6.8) build 16488 from the VSL Software Archive before installing:

1. Does installing this "VI/VE Software 5.4 (OSX 10.6.8) build 16488" automatically overwrite and update my existing VI/VE? Meaning, there would be no need to uninstall or do anything prior to installing this update? 

2. Before I proceeded to the next step of the installation, I read the items, "Library Installer" and "Directory Manager", on the install window. Please bear with me as I'm not techie and am worried about possibbly accidentally erasing files that could render my current existing (old) set-up unusable, but would installing this update in any way affect my existing "100 SpecialEdition" folder on my external hard drive or any other files in my internal drive for that matter? 

I am sorry for the series of questions, but I do hope you can help enlighten me again regarding this.

Hi, Everyone!

First things first. I am still on an older system.  My Vienna Instruments Special Edition Vol 1 is Version 5.3.11515, running on Pro Tools 10.0 on an iMac Lion 10.7.3. My Vienna Ensemble (NOT the PRO version) is Version 4.1.10738.

Unfortunately, I can't as of yet upgrade, but I think I may be missing a simple solution to my issue.  

Here's the thing: I had never tried using VE since I got the updated Vienna Instruments Special Edition Vol 1 in 2012 (when I last updated my gear) and have only discovered recently how much (an understatement!) I've been missing out without VE.   And so, I tried it and successfully got it to work (given that I'm not the techie kind). I run on the 32-bit service. 

My issue, however, is that when I open Vienna Ensemble (NOT the PRO version), Version 4.1.10738 and add a VI track, the interface that appears is still that of the older Vienna Instruments Special Edition Vol 1 version (circa 2009, no reverb slider and still with the circular menu in the center of the interface). I am just wondering, because, since 2012, whenever I would instantiate VI as a separate track instrument  (NOT via VE), the interface that appears is that of that newer version. I tried running on the 64-bit service, but the older VI still shows up, not the relatively newer one.

My question is this: How could I get the relatively newer VI interface to appear on my VE without having to download the newer version? I am just guessing that even in 2012, the then-newer VI interface should have already shown up in my VE or am I mistaken? 

I hope that someone could help enlighten me regarding this as I'm sure I'm missing something that should be obvious.

Just a clarification to ease my mind: the only thing I'd need to copy, therefore, is just the "100 Special Edition Folder" which contains those .dat files, then? And since I had never made my own patterns and matrices (which should've filled up the custom dat folder), I definitely would have nothing else to remember to look for for this copy and paste process from one external ard drive to another? It's that simple, then?

Last question! There would be no issues with the Vienna Key recognizing a different ext. hard drive location? Am I safe in this regard?

I'm not too adept in technical skills concerning installation,
transfers, and the like, just to give you a heads-up. But before
anything, here are my system specs: MacBook (white): OS X 10.4.9;
Processor - 2.16 GHz, Intel Core 2 Duo; Memory -2GB, 667 Mhz; 120GB HD.
Pro Tools LE 7.4 with an MBox2.Vienna Instruments/Special Edition.
Glyph GT050-Q External Hard Drive 250GB. FYI, I've been using Vienna
Instruments SE with no problems whatsoever with my Pro
Tools LE sequencing, so my issue has nothing to do with software performance.

Here is my situation: I installed my VSL SE with my
external hard drive around. So, I'm pretty sure the Directory Manager
knows the VSL SE stuff are just there (please correct me if I'm wrong; and please pardon my not-too-precise descriptions). However, my fear is that my external hard drive may just bog down pretty soon (I've
been hearing this really loud, annoying sound at start-up). I've been
wanting to ask about this transfer process but have been putting it off.

Here are my actual questions: 1. How do I transfer
VSL SE-related files (or "stuff") that are in my external hard drive
onto another external drive? (Is it as simple as copying them onto the
desktop temporarily then pasting them into the new external hard drive?) 2. Exactly what VSL SE files should I be looking for, if so?

Here are my additional situations to add to the challenge of resolving my issue: 1.
I had read the VSL SE guide and it mentioned something about the "VSL
Custom Data" (in the System>User>Shared location) being transferred? 2. I also found a "VSL Instruments Custom Data"
folder in my Home folder. BUT both folders had "0" ("zero") items. Is
this a major problem? May I add, too, that the only VSL SE-related
folder I found in my system that had items was the "100 Special
Edition" which contained numerous ".dat" files and this is in my current external hard drive.

I'm sorry for the info overload. But as you can probably tell by
now, I've no idea on how to deal with the soon-to-bog-down external
hard drive. I would greatly appreciate a "for dummies"/step-by-step
guide on transferring VSL SE files onto another hard drive! My BIG thank you in advance for all your help!

Unfortunately, my internet connection got lost while i waited for mail replies to come in, so i wasn't able to read your reply right away and had gone on with uninstalling the older version (oops! ). But all's well that ends well as I was able to get VI SE to work with PT LE 7.4 (MBox2) on an Intel Macbook 10.4.9.

Nevertheless, I thank you for your immediate reply. I still learned a whole lot from your tips re: installing and uninstalling, rebooting and about version 3452 (whoa? is this so? maybe i should consider reverting to the older version then? i'll wait and see, i guess). Well, it's a great heads-up, and I'll keep that in mind as i go along my beginner's journey into the world of VI SE.

I finally received my VSL SE (Standard Library) DVD box order, and I have installed the VI Software from the included CD-ROM. The problem is that I saw later on in the manual that I had to go to the VSL site to install the latest VI Instrument Software:

My question is: Would I need to uninstall the CD-ROM version i had just installed minutes ago before installing the latest VI Instruments Software (which I am downloading from the site as i write this mail)? I wanted to avoid possible complications later, so i decided to ask now. I can't seem to find the answer in the forum.
