1.Trills don't stop 8/18/2019 7:09:12 AM

Hi

Here is one movement of the Mozart work for flute, bassoon and piano--notated in Sibelius.

Many thanks

VSL_House_Style_Sib7_v.2.1

VE_Optimizing_Sibelius_Playback_v4.5

Sibelius Ultimate Version 8.5.1 build 659

Windows 10 up-to-date, 12G of RAM

For the two channels you describe, you list three presets for each. One Vienna Instruments (Pro) channel can only load one preset at any particular time. So which preset did you load now?

I have enclosed two audio examples (WAV files) to illustrate the problems, both from a Mozart work with flute and bassoon.  In MOZART FLUTE TRILL.Wav, the flute plays correctly the notation in SIbelius for 4 seconds from the beginning.  Then the flute notation contains trill mark, and some strange things happen.  The flute in VEPRO/VIPRO not only plays the trill mark, it also plays all subsequent notes with trills until 8.5 seconds from the beginning.  At this point, 8.5 seconds from the beginning, the flute part contains a second trill mark.  Here, VEPRO/VIPRO stop playing trills on every note.

In addition there is a second audible problem in this audio file.  At the first trill mark (4 seconds from the beginning,) there is a sudden, noticible increase in reverberation in the flute part.  This increase in reverberation continues until the second trill mark (at 8.5 seconds from the beginning.)  This additional reverberation is inexplicable because this recording was made with no reverberation in VEPRO, VIPRO or in Sibelius.  In Sibelius>play>perfeormance, the box marked "Use Reverb' is not checked.

To make this recording of the flute part, a loaded two presets into Channel 2 in VEPro/VIPro: Sibelius>Special Edition 5.2>SE Vol. 1>11 Woodwinds>025 Flute 1; and Sibelius>Special Edition 5.2>SE Vol. 1>11 Woodwinds>025 Flute 1+.  The result was trills played on many notes where no trills were notated in Sibelius.  When I tried loading ONLY Sibelius>Special Edition 5.2>SE Vol. 1>11 Woodwinds>025 Flute 1. the flute played no trills at all.

I also recorded the bassoon, loading two presets into channel 3 in VEPro/VIPro: Sibelius>Special Edition 5.2>SE Vol. 1>11 Woodwinds>315 Bassoon; and Sibelius>Special Edition 5.2>SE Vol. 1>11 Woodwinds>315 Bassoon+.  The trill problem and reverb problem were identical with the flute part.  At 41.5 seconds from the beginning, there is a trill marl notated in the bassoon part in Sibelius.  From that point to the end, the bassoon plays with audible trills on every sustained note, and with greatly increased reverb.  Once again, I used no external reverb.

I got conflicting advice on the forum.  One post suggested that I load both the Special Edition preset and the Special Edition Plus preset for each instgrument.  Another post says says to load only one preset for each instrument.  However, if I load only one preset--the Special Edition preset--the instrumenty plays no trills.  Please indicate exactly which presets I should load into VEPro/VIPro so that the flute and the bassoon play only the trills that are notated in Sibelius, with no added reverb.  Should I load the two flute presets on two different channels. and the two bassoon presets on another two different channels--and change the channels in Sibelius to the same numbers?

If you want to, you can send your Sibelius project and Playback Configuration (xml file and files in the data folder) to and I will take a look at your files. I will return to the office on Monday.

See ZIP file attached

If you are working on a Windows computer, Sibelius playback configurations can be found in the following folder:

C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Avid\Sibelius\Playback Configurations

On a Mac the Sibelius Playback Configurations can be found in the following folder:

Users/your username/Library/Application Support/Avid/Sibelius/Playback Configurations

The Users/your username/Library folder is hidden by default. To get access, go to the folder Users/your username. Then choose Go/Go to folder and enter “Library".

Please include information on the OS you are using and the exact Sibelius version (Sibelius Ultimate 2019.x).

3.Trills don't stop 8/15/2019 12:41:42 AM

I use Sibelius Ultimate 2019., with VIPro 2, VEPro 7, SE and SE+.  I use the latest VSL Sibelius Sound Set.

I am working in SIbelius on a piece for flute and bassoon.  I have loaded in one chanel VEPro:

Special Edition PRESET Files>VIPro 2 Presets>11 Flutes> SE FL1  Preset VIPro

Sibelius>Special Edition 5.2>SE Vol. 1>11 Woodwinds> 025 Flute 1

Sibelius>SE+ Vol1>11 Woodwinds>025 Flute 1+

In another channel, I loaded:

Special Edition PRESET Files>VIPro 2 Presets>14 Bassoons> SE BA Preset VIPro

Sibelius>Special Edition 5.2>SE Vol. 1>11 Woodwinds> 315 Bassoon

Sibelius>SE+ Vol1>11 Woodwinds>315 Bassoon +

When playback of the piece begins, both flute and bassoon play each nolgte correctly.  As soon as either the flute or the bassoon plays a note that is notated in Sibelius with a trill sign, the flute or the bassoon plays back ALL subsequent notes iwth trills on them, even though they are not notated with any trill signs.

The only way I have found to get either the flute or the bassoon to stop playing trills in VEPro & VIPro once they have begun to play trills, is to delete ALL trill signs in the piece as notated with Sibelius.  This is not an acceptable solution.

I have tried Paul's suggestion, moving the trill sign in Sibelius slightly North, South, East and West with respect to the notehead.  There is no change in the problem.

This trill problem does not exist when I playback the piece in Sibelius using MIDI Basic Sounds.  Thus, it looks to me like the problem is confined to VEPro or VIPro--which will not release the trill samples in SE+, as they are supposed to.

So how do I fix this very frustrating problem which makes VIPro, VEPro and SE unusable?

4.Trills don't stop 8/14/2019 12:39:08 AM

When I place a trill sign over a note in Sibelius, the note does in fact playback with a trill, using VIPro, VEPro, Sibelius 2019, Special Edition instruments and Special Edition Plus Instruments,  However, quite often (but not always,) trills continue to play on the following notes--i.e., those notes with no trill signs as notated in Sibelius.

How do I stop the notes with no trill signs from playing back with trills after a note notated with a trill sign.  Shouldn't this be done automatically ?

5.Loading an instrument into VI Pro 8/12/2019 6:20:27 AM

For many instruments in Special Editions, I have both the instrument and the instrument plus.  For example, in Vienna Instrument Pro, inside Vienna Ensemble Pro Server, I can see in the right-hand column, under Sibelius: 025 Flute 1 and also 025 Flute 1+.  Which one do I load into the left-hand column, Flute 1 or Flute 1+?  Or do I load both of them into Vienna Instruments Pro?

Also, at the top of the right hand column, I see 32 Fl1 Preset VI Pro, FLI VSL Preset Level1, ande Fl1 VSL Preset Level 2.  Do I ignore these presets?

6.Vienna Imperial does not sustain long notes 8/6/2019 9:05:59 PM

I finally got Vienna Imperial working with Sibelius--with one unacceptable flaw.  Vienna Imperial does not sustain any long notes for more than 1/10th of a second.  Long, legato, sustained notes--each of which should last more than a second--are now cut off with silence after the attack, as if they were short staccato notes.

The problem appears to be located in the Vienna Imperial piano.  When I play back the same passages in Sibelius using Basic MIDI sounds, all of the long, legato notes are sustained, just as they are notated in Sibelius.

There must be some setting in Vienna Imperial to restore the sustained legato notes--but I cant fiund it in Vienna Imperial.

7.[SOLVED] Can I use Vienna Imperial in VEPro 7 VIPro2? 8/5/2019 10:33:53 PM

I have installed Vienna Imperial, and it appears only as a standalone in the Windows start menu.

How can I get Vienna Imperial to appear in VEPro7 or VIPro2, so I can play back my piano scores notated with Sibelius with Vienna Imperial?

8.SELECTING AUDIO ENGINE IN VIPRO AND VIPRO 8/5/2019 8:30:23 AM

9.SELECTING AUDIO ENGINE IN VIPRO AND VIPRO 8/4/2019 7:46:30 PM

Thanks for the suggestion, but it did not solve the problem.  I still get no audio from VEPro.

No, I do not use the stand-alone versions of either VEPro or VIpro.  I use VEPro Server 64 bit and VIPro integrated into VEPro Server 64 Bit (see screen shot.)  I still cannot find any select of the Audio Engine in either VE Pro Server 64 or VIPro.

However, I did follow your suggestion by loading Vienna Instruments Pro Standalone, and on top I found Application>Preferences.  Under Select Audio Device, I found 10 devices (see screen shot.)  Selecting ASIO produced an error message:  Error starting audio, Bad Device.  My speakers are connected via USB3.  I selected WIndows Audio; Speakers (3-USB AUDIO DAC.)  It worked. I was able to load an instrument and get audio through my speakers.  But when I closed Vienna Instruments Pro Standalone and opened VEPro Server 64-bit with VIPro inside, I get no audio.  When I load an instrument in VIPro, the virtual keyboard keys do not move, and I get no sound.

So, how (and where) do I select WIndows Audio; Speakers (3-USB AUDIO DAC.) as my Audio Engine Device in VIPro or VEPro Server 64-bit? (not the stand-alone versions.)

10.SELECTING AUDIO ENGINE IN VIPRO AND VIPRO 8/4/2019 9:27:57 AM

I was getting audio output fine for a while with several instruments in SE & SE+.  Then some setting changed, and now I get no audio output from any instrument.  When I load an instrument in VEPRO-Advanced View, I get no audio when I click on the the virtual keyboard.  The instrument is loaded in VIPro, but the keys on the virtual keyboard do not move.

I am now getting error messages about the Audio Engine.  Bad ASIO.  Where is the Audio Engine options selector hidden?  I cannot find it in either VEPro or VIPro.

11.Sibelius Sound Sets for Special Edition Vols.5, 6 & 7 8/3/2019 8:47:57 AM

Since you sell Volumes 5, 6, and 7 of Special Editions, do you also have Sibelius Sound Sets so one can use these instruments with Sibelius playing back with VI Pro and VE Pro?

12.Inserting SIR Reverb into VE Pro 7/31/2019 7:25:22 AM

How do I inster SIR Reverb into VI Pro?  I have installed SIR Reverb, and copied the SIR dll into my VST directory.  Now how do I get SIR Reverb to show up in VE Pro to use with my instances of Bosendorfer Imperial?

13.Configuring Sibelius to playback two instances of Imperial on separate channels 7/20/2019 8:32:57 AM

I opened VE Pro Server 64 bit before opening Sibelius 2019.

Then, in Sibelius Playback Devices, I created a new configuration named Bosendorfer 4 pianos.

In Active Devices, I activated one instance of VE Pro and VI Pro, with the Sound Sets for both active devices selected for VE Special Edition Plus.  I highlighted in Active Devices Vienna Ensemble Pro, and clicked Show.  Vienna Ensemble Pro 7 popped up, and I selected 127.0.0.1 64bit local host <NEW>.  127.0.0.1 appeared in the Server box, and I clicked Connect.  The Vienna Ensemble Pro Server 64 bit screen appeared connected.

In Sibelius>Playback Devices>Manual Sound Sets, I created four instances of Bosendorfer>keyboard.piano on Channels 1-4.  When I highlight each channel (all Bosendorfer keyboard sound sets,) I can hear the audio of a C major scale played on a piano when I click on Test.  I can also hear this piano scale when I click on Test with Vienna Ensemble Pro highlighted in the Active Devices box.  However, now I get no audio sound at all when I playback my piano score on Sibelius.

In Vienna Ensemble Pro Server 64 bit, I created in Vienna Instruments Pro four instances of Bosendorfer piano on Channels 2-5, and loaded the samples.  I numbered these pianos 1-1, 1-2, 1-3, and 1-4.  On each piano, when I press notes on the virtual keyboards, I can hear on my speakers those notes played on piano.   However, when I play my Sibelius piano score (on which there are many notes in piano parts 1, 2, and 3, and nothing yet in piano part 4,) I still get no audio output from Vienna Ensemble Pro.

I have read the VE Pro Manual and watched some of the VE Pro videos, and read the Optimizing Sibelius PDF,  and I still cannot figure out how I can get Sibelius to connect to Bosenborder pianos in VE Pro to produce any audible sound.

I have included screen shots of all of my settings in Sibelius, Vienna Ensemble Pro and Vienna Instruments Pro.  What do I have to change in order to get my Sibelius piano score to produce audio output with Bosendorfer pianos in Vienna Ensemble?

14.Configuring Sibelius to playback two instances of Imperial on separate channels 7/18/2019 5:55:39 PM

I now have Vienna Ensemble Pro Server 7.0.877 64-bit running.

1. How do I connect the Vienna Ensemble Pro plugin to the Vienna Ensemble Pro Server?  Please be specific, step by step.

2.How do I add instruments inside Vienna Ensemble Pro 7, specifically two instances of Vienna Imperial or Bosendorfer.  How do I configure each piano for a different channel for the left and right speaker?

3.  What should I do with Vienna Instruments Pro?  Should I run Vienna Instruments Pro Standalone 2.4 18067 64 bit?  When I run VI Pro Standalone, I get an error message: "Error starting audio; no such device: Speakers (USB AUDIO DAC.)"  There is, in fact, such a device, my USB speakers--which in fact played my Vienna Imperial directly from Sibelius before I installed VE Pro and VI Pro.

15.Configuring Sibelius to playback two instances of Imperial on separate channels 7/18/2019 1:23:16 AM

I created a new configuration in Sibelius named Bosendorfer 2 pianos.

In Active Devices, I activate Vienna Ensemble Pro and Vienna Instruments Pro.  The Type is VST and the Sound Set is VE Special Edition Plus.

In Manual Sound Sets, I selected Vienna Ensemble Pro.  in Sound Set, I selected Special Edition Plus.  I checked Use Manual Sound Set.  For No. of Channels, I selected 2.

Under Program Name, I selected Bosendorfer, and then Apply. In the large box on the right, Channel 1 shows Bosendorfer, and Sound ID shows Keyboard, Piano, Grand.  Program is blank.  I did not tick Send Program Change.  Program number is ) greyed out.  Send Bank Change is blank.

Then under Sound Settings, I switched to Channel 2.  I selected the Program name as Bosendorfer.  In the large box on the right, it shows Channel 2 is Bosendorfer, and Sound ID is keyboard,piano.grand.

When I click Test, I get no sound.  When I click Show, the Vienna Ensemble Pro 7 box pops up.  Except for "2 buffers" at the top, everything is blank.  When I clikc Connect, nothing happens.

I saved the Sibelius Configuration.

I have no idea how to access the VE Pro 7 mixer, or where are the panorama settings.  In Sibelius, Panorama for the two pianos is set to 0 for both.  I have not made any settings in Sibelius for Chanel or output.  You said reset Sibelius settings to Auto.  I don't know where any Auto seting is located for Sibelius 2019. I have Espressivo set to Meccanico, Rubato set to Meccanico, and Rhythmic Feel set to Straight.  Use Reverb us not ticked.

When I playback my two piano piece in Sibelius with this configuration, there is no sound.  I got sound before when I played back this score with two instances of Imperial in Sibelius.  Now, when I playback this score in Sibelius with your new configuration, the lights are jumping on the fader sliders on Sibelius' Mixer Panel , but there is no audible output.

Evidently Vienna Ensemble Pro 7 and/or Vienna Instruments Pro 2 are not generating any piano sounds.  So what should I do?

16.Configuring Sibelius to playback two instances of Imperial on separate channels 7/17/2019 7:08:04 AM

I have a piece for two pianos. I have Vienna Imperiale. I want to run playback with Sibelius configured for two separate instances of Vienna Imperiale, one for Piano A on the left speaker, and one for Piano B on the right speaker.

No matter how I try to configure Playback Devices and Mixer in Sibelius 2019, I always get Pianos A and Piano B BOTH coming out out of the left and right speakers simultaneously.   How can I configure Sibelius and 2 instances of Vienna Imperial so that Piano A plays only on the left channel and Piano B plays only in the right channel

Here is my current configuration which unfortunately is not doing what I want.

In Mixer, I have Pan in Piano A set to -100; and I have Pan in Piano B set to +100.

In Playback Devices>Active Devices, I have two instances of Vienna Imperial, labeled Imperial 1 & Imperial 2. In Sound Set, there is no sound set selection listed for Vienna Imperial, so I selected Vienna Special Edition Plus for both active devices.

In Manual Sound Sets, Device is set to Vienna Imperial in both active devices. Sound Set is set to VE Special Edition Plus; Number of Channels is set to 2.

Under Sound setting in Imperial 1, Channel is set to 1, Program Name is set to Bosenborfer, Send program change is checked, and program Number is set to 0. Send bank changed is unchecked.

In Imperial 2, Channel is set to 2, Program Name is set to Bosendorfer, Send Program Change is checked, and Program Number is set to 0. Send Bank Changed is unchecked.

So, what's wrong. Does anyone know how I can configure Sibelius to get Piano A coming out of the left speaker only, and Piano B coming out of the right speaker only?

Many thanks

MS

17.I cannot update Vienna Ensemble or Vienna Instruments 7/7/2019 4:09:28 AM

Nevermind.  I decided to bite the financial bullet and upgrade to Vienna Ensemble Pro and Vienna Instruments Pro.  Hopefully, that will remove the problems I had about updating VE and VI.

18.I cannot update Vienna Ensemble or Vienna Instruments 7/6/2019 9:57:39 PM

I have tried many times to update my Vienna Instruments and Vienna Ensemble on my computer, but it never seems to work.

I always use VI and VE with Sibelius 2019 on a Win 10 64bit computer with 12G of ram.

When I enter a score in Sibelius set to play back with VSL SE and SE Plus, I get an error message stating: "VE Error, The project you are trying to load was created with a newer version of Vienne Ensemble.  Please download and install the latest version at hrrp://www.vsl.co.at/MyDownloads Software_Installers"

My currently installed version of VE is Vienna Ensemble 5.4.15500 (64-bit).  My currently installed version of VI is Vienna Instruments Vienna 5.4.14074.

So I downloaded from MyVSl the file named on the website "vienna instruments and vienna ensemble software 6.0 win build 18067".  However, the actal file name is, confusingly, "ViennaInstruments-WIN-6.0.18067.exe."  There is no mention of VE in the windows fileneame.  I ran the install.  Under "ready to Install/select components," I saw Vienna Ensemble,  When the installation was over, the following message appeared: "Setup has finished installing Vienna Instruments on your computer."  There was no message that an updated version of VE had also been installed.  And in fact, when I again entered Active Devices in Sibelius, I got the same old message that I needed to update Vienna Ensemble, and that  Vienna Ensemble 5.4.15500 (64-bit) was still installed on my computer.  No update of Vienna Ensemble had been performed.

Moreover, when I checked to see which version of VI was now installed on my computer, I saw the old Vienna Instruments Vienna 5.4.14074--and NOT Vienna Instruments 6.0, as indicated by the filename on the update file.

These kind of irreconcilable inconsistencies during installation are all too common on VSL software, and are very frustrating.

So, how do I update VE and VI to the latest versions so that the installations work on both programs?

19. Sibelius soundsets for additional Vienna Instruments 11/10/2016 12:38:24 AM

Sibelius soundsets for additional Vienna Instruments

I already own Vienna SE (4 DVDs) and SE+ (2 DVDs.)  I am considering purchasing Woodwinds II to add some auxiliary wind instruments to my woodwind section.

I use SE and SE+ with Sibelius 8 on my Win PC, with VI and VE.  I have installed the Vienna Soundsets for Sibelius.

If I purchase Woodwinds II, will the Vienna SE and SE+ soundsets for Sibelius also run the additional woodwind instruments in Woodwind II?  Or do I have to load an additional soundset into Sibelius to use these new instruments?  Does Woodwinds II have its own Sibelius soundset?

Some of the instruments in Woodwinds II are duplicates of instruments in SE and SE+--such as Piccolo and English Horn (French.)  Are these duplicates exactly the same, or will the Piccolo and English Horh (French) in Woodwinds II expand the articulations of those two instruments.  If they are exactly the same as those I have already purchased in SE/SE+, will I get a discount when I purchase Woodwind?

20.Where can I find the package.info file to install Vienna Imperial 11/7/2016 2:46:32 AM

I downloaded ViennaImperial-WIN-1.1.776.exe.  I ran this file to install Vienna Imperial.  To complete installation, the installer asks for the Vienna Imperial's package.info file.  I cannot find that file anywhere.  When I downloaded  ViennaImperial-WIN-1.1.776.exe from the VSL website, no package.info file was included in the download.  There is no package.info file in my c:/program files/vienna imperial/ folder.  So where do I find the package.info file for VIenna Imperial?

21.Where can I find instructions how to install Special Edition & Special Edition Plus 11/6/2016 7:00:53 AM

I have my licenses for Special Edition and Special Edition Plus already installed in my eLicenser dongle.  Now, what do I do to install the instruments from the DVD discs to my win10 pc?

Is there a video or text file with step-by-step instructions.  There is no setup.exe file, as one might normally expect.

I tried entering the activation number for SE and SE+ into the eLicenser Control Center.  Nothing happened, although I could see my licenses in the right-hand column.  So I clicked on Download License.  I got an error message, License Download failed--The activation code has been used already.  An activation code can be used only once to download or upgrade a license.

Well, I already knew that.  I already have the licenses in my eLicenser.  So how do I start the installation of the instruments?

22.Ensemble Pro, Server 5/28/2013 5:27:08 AM

I don't understand the difference between Vienna Ensemble Pro and Vienna Ensemble Pro Server. When does one use one or the other?

I use VE Pro, VI Pro, Sibelius and SE+, all on one (fast and powerful) computer.  Before starting Sibelius, which program should I run: VE Pro or VE Pro Server.  Why would I have any use for Pro Server, if I run all programs on one computer?

23.Vienna Imperial interface freezes in VEPro5/MIR24 5/25/2013 6:28:36 AM

Hello Heike

I see you use Sibelius 7 with Vienna Imperial and VE Pro -- as I am attempting to do (thus far, unsuccessfully.)  I would greatly appreciate learning how you set up Sibelius' Playback Devices, Imperial's Preferences, and VE Pro's MIDI configuration to get the three programs to work together.  I see nothing in the Imperial Manual or Video that explains clearly how to get the Imperial program to work with Sibelius.

Many thanks,

24.Flute (full) 5/8/2013 2:47:58 AM

I'm using Chome now.  Let's see if the forum posts the text of my message this time.

I just purchased, downloaded and installed Flute (full,) the individual instrument.  It appears in VE Pro.  However, there are 82 matrixes in 7 groups.  What am I supposed to do: drag all 82 matrixes into VI Pro?  Is there some simple way to run everything in Flute?  Is there any instruction manual how to use Flute matrixes in VE Pro and VI Pro.  The flute manual just lists all of the patches.  It does not show how to use the 82 matrixes in VE PRO and VI PRO, especially with Sibelius 7.
