1.MIDI Timecode (MTC) 11/7/2017 2:42:19 PM

Can VEpro receive MTC and if so how? (VEpro Standalone)

I've checked the manual but there is no reference to it. I can set it easily in Plogue - they have a specific plug for it that you can then send to the kontakt instances that receive tempo information.

The situation is that I have a patch that has an active arpeggiator that I don't want to run in my DAW. I can't use the server version of VEpro for many technical reasons so it's the standalone version listening to MoL and I am taking 24 channles of lightpipe into my DAW.

I've set my DAW to send MTC over MoL and the kontakt instance is on the right port....but it's not hearing the MTC as far as I can see.

2.Using A/B Matrix 10/27/2017 2:28:39 PM

Legend.

Thanks. On its way to you now.

3.Using A/B Matrix 10/26/2017 4:19:25 PM

I am trying to create a trill patch in Vienna instruments that selects major or minor trills via velocity and intensity via CC1.

- I have velocity x-fade set to CC1

- CC7 set to volume

- Each Matrix selected by program change

- In my trill patch, I have the AB switch set to velocity and the velocity range slider present

Everything looks right. But the two patches are not being switched by the different velocity levels.

I have this set up in a patch in my instrument banks in contact with non-VI instruments. This way I can play major AND minor trills in the same 2 note chord whilst riding CC1 levels for intensity....meaning I can make the trills harmonically approriate to the material. It would be deeeply cool if I could make this consistent for all my instruments including my Vienna ones.

How would I do this?

4.VEpro 6 Standalone Crashing 5/10/2017 2:16:12 PM

Done.

Thanks. I am not very au fait with Windows.

5.VEpro 6 Standalone Crashing 5/9/2017 11:26:55 AM

Hi,

I am using VEpro 6 Standalone on a PC W7, MoL, and ADATs between the computers. VEpro6 is crashing after a while. The PC has 128Gb of RAM and I am using about half of it....

Is this a known issue? It smells of memory leak to me, but it might be kontakt - most of the VI's in there are kontakt.

Is there crash dumps like on Macs where I can have a peak and see what the cuprit is?

6.VEpro 6 External Midi Latency 4/6/2017 9:59:00 AM

Well I have heard back from Marnix Veenenbos at support, but his answer doesn't make a lot of sense. Is there anyone else out there that can help?

Basically he is saying that because I am not using the VEpro midi, there can be no latency compensation. Well, to be frank, that's not telling me anything I didn't know. Of course I am not expecting latency compensation!! I don't get latency compneation in the standalone modes either, but I don't have THAT amount of latency.

A further curiosity is that when I send VEpro midi to dummy instrument within an instance, the MoL midi is suddenly perfectly in time. That can't be explained by lack latency compensation on the MoL side.

What I am doing is setting up a track in Logic outputting crochets to each of the SI's in the environment. I have a dummy instrument in each instance in VEpro6 server. Bingo...all the MoL stuff is in time.

And, once it is in time, playing live with the sequencer stopped works fine as well.

I don't agree that this huge latency should be "expected". If it was normal that there should be over 500ms latency then forcing VEpro6 to play back in time using a dummy region should be a bug!

7.How do you update? 4/5/2017 9:40:18 AM

Hi I am having problems with the updates as well. Dragging does nothing. It just shows a circle with a bar across it. Opening it does nothing.....ie choosing the program via the browser when double clicking.

I am doing this on a PC - I can't see how it is supposed to work.

8.VEpro 6 External Midi Latency 4/4/2017 11:37:36 AM

Hello,

I know there is a warning that external midi is "experimental", however for various reasons, I have to use MoL to send to the VEpro server. I bought VEpro6 update in order to see if the midi latency was improved but alas no difference.

Here is what I get. The click is generated from logic, the piano is playing in bidule receiving the same midi signal, and the pizzicato strings is from VEpro receiving the midi but returning the audio via the network.

That's quite some latency. I am not generally bothered by latency but this maybe a touch extreme even for me. :)

Is there some way around this? Why is there so much latency involved when the server version receives it? The standalone behaves like bidule - nice and tight.

FYI I cannot use the plug-in midi:

- cc7 is captured by the SI object in Logic. I am staying with LP9 for serious work LPX (where this can be switched off) has too many problems for me that affect my workflow.

- I need to retain backwards compatiblity. It becomes too complicated to restructure my template so dramatically and I have certain workflows optmised around external midi.

But I don't see why there should be so much latency on receiving MoL. Any ideas?

9.Big problem with Kontakt in VEpro 7/22/2010 12:12:30 PM

i have been helping a colleague setup his template using VEpro. He has quite a few vienna instruments he wants to use and we worked out that the standalone version is the best one to use - the server is too unreliable and crashes if logic crashes. also, it makes for poor backwards compaitblity with previous templates. 64bit logic is not an option - except for opening old songs pre-9.

so we have set everything using the loopback method but we are getting this strange intermittent 6 second delay from the midi side with kontakt instruments. intermittent in that it does not always occur, but once it starts occuring it will remain until a reboot. it means that kontakt within VEpro is unreliable.

he is using:

- nahelem 8-core 2.66
- 12 Gb RAM (i know he needs more but i don't think that is the issue - it occurs in very small templates)
- VEpro 64-bit version
- Kontakt 4.1
- Motu 828 24 i/o
- IAC bus for midi

N.B.
- the problem does not affect any vienna instruments
- it is not audio. clicking the kontakt keybaord results in no delay.
- the midi is leaving logic correctly - i tested with midi monitor - both in logic and the freeware OSX version outside logic.
- the problem only occurs in kontakt on the midi side.
- there is no midi loop (checked this).
- we initially thought that it might have been because the template was built in 32-bit, because the problem was always present in 64bit standalone. when we rebuilt the template things worked alright for a while, but it is apparently back. this meant having to move kontakt to logic. it works of course, but it's messy having your template loaded in 2 locations.

you can download the template from VI-control here i also posted on this:

http://www.vi-control.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=227318#227318

the konakt instruments in this template always output the sound 5 to 6 seconds after the key has been pressed with the midi routed via logic.

has anyone encountered this? it is not likely a problem kontakt side since it works normally in every other configuration (ie not VEpro).

thanks

10.VE Pro and midi within Logic 10/1/2009 3:06:15 PM

that's great!

so no offline bounce but solid timing?

how easy is it to set up?

when do you think an update might materialize?

any issues you can foresee?

11.VE Pro and midi within Logic 10/1/2009 2:17:40 PM

i don't quite get this:

when we use bidule the midi ports turn up in logic. why does this not work here? same thing with rewire, we can have bidule rewire for midi and have loads of ports and therefore channels....

so presumably what we need to be able to do is run VST plugs in logic. if we could run the plugs as VST would we then have the midi ports?

12.Hey could someone send me my Order? 9/30/2009 1:00:32 PM

hi - i haven't received your email - but i did get the email after purchase - i just didn't realize this product was downloadable.

actually there are quite a few things that aren't clear that could be made clearer for us:

- that the product is download only (there should a brief instructions on how and where to do that when we buy)

- the shipping address should come up when we purchase so that we can confirm that it will be sent to the right address.

- in the download area - some simple instructions to the effect that if we are not familiar with your procedures to read such and such, and that we should download items for a full install - or something. Epic orchestra demo to me made me think i was downloading the demo version of epic orchestra.

just think ahead to complete idiots such as myself so we don't flap about like a duck in a drained bath wondering where all the water went... :-)

13.Hey could someone send me my Order? 9/30/2009 11:10:24 AM

i only received the vienna key, but i ordered the VE pro and epic orchestra pack as well. i have written 2 emails, but have heard nothing back. it's one of those things that bug you....i would like to know what's going on. at least if they were always going to be coming separately ETAs would at least put my mind partially at rest.

i would be grateful if someone at vsl could sort this out.

14.Can you explain a bit more : MIR, VE PRO, VE 64 MAC OS X, Vienna Suite 8/30/2009 8:16:35 AM

hi cyril - how are you? haven't crossed words in a while. do you mind if i jump on this thread with you? it's along the lines of questions i wanted to ask as well.

i am looking for a single computer solution. i am interested in VE pro to use on the same machine as my DAW. currently doing that job is plogue and i am using loopback to my interface to pipe the audio back to logic. after many headaches i have settled on something reliable, but it could be improved. eg latency in this setup is not wonderful.

1. can i use VE pro in this way - on the same computer as the DAW?

2. how does VE provide audio outputs over LAN or in my case internally? how do they show up in logic?

3. likewise, midi?

4. with rewire, you have the possibility of detecting tempo from the DAW. does this happen in VE pro? so any loops residing in a plug-in will set to the current DAW tempo?

15.Vienna Ensemble and Kontakt 3 - perform same tricks? 2/7/2009 11:37:04 AM

thanks for your reply.

the ultimate aim is to be able to mix and match samples - or at least articualtions - from different libraries. or at least sections perhaps, or individual instruments. this creates problems such as where to host all this in an efficient way, to be able to treat an instrument with articulations from several libraries as one, and mix them.

having everything within the exs was very convenient that way - not to mention portable. but if we want to tap into the power of scripting and intelligent performance that the newer libraries seem to offer then we need to be able to use the articulations/instruments with the samplers for which they programmed.

therefore vienna ensemble, if it is as cpu and memory efficient as we hope it might be, might be the answer. that way everything can be contained and loaded up in the one spot. if it can distribute processing across cores and gain access to all system RAM whether it is 32bit or 64bit, as well as allowing us to send the audio back into the host DAW, then it will be far more useful than for just its own proprietary library.

16.Vienna Ensemble and Kontakt 3 - perform same tricks? 2/5/2009 3:57:47 PM

thank you for your welcome and quick reply!

ok that makes sense. presumably the lossless decompression is a little more drain on cpu. and the 64 bit version is for windows?

what about the older VSL stuff that we own? will that be loadable in vienna ensemble? how much editing is available to us to tweak the samples to our preference? i don't just mean cutoff filters etc but individual sample output levels, intonation, start times, looping etc? can we import exs instruments?

presumably we have to wait until VE3 to be able to add our own samples or custom samples. is that right?

17.Vienna Ensemble and Kontakt 3 - perform same tricks? 2/5/2009 2:03:11 PM

Myself, another composer i often work with, and his assistant, use a library i developed for the exs24 years ago, using the best samples we could find at the time, a mixture of vsl, miroslav, siedlecek, even some apple jampack as well as our own custom samples and sampler instruments. Its been great but its time to upgrade.

There are many ways of going about this, and we also have a fantastic custom library we may want to incorporate that is in Kontakt 3 format. We are missing many good things, and we are attracted to the VSL route because:

- Kontakt 3 comes with a lot of VSL

- We can integrate our custom library

- We can download individual instruments where we feel we are missing something.

- The Vienna Ensemble uses the same extended memory technique as the EXS (i believe) and can be run as a standalone. In fact it appears you can run several standalones.

However, I am not terribly happy about having both Kontakt and VE open running, simply for the sake of simplicity.

So:

1. Can Vienna instruments run in Kontakt 3?

2. Will the fancy scripting be preserved (such as the intelligent performance analysis in VE)?

3. Can the library that comes with Kontakt 3 be used in VE?

I am highly aware of the issues regarding 32 bit Logic (our DAW) and the memory limitations. Currently I am developing a template in Plogue Bidule for 3rd Party sampled-based plugs such as Kontakt, Ivory, RealGuitar etc. Initially I wanted to run this via Rewire, but i am not discounting using Jack or Soundflower and perhaps another AU host, or VE as a standalone. I am just not wild about having a piecemeal approach, but I want to preserve the possibility of being able to use our custom stuff.
