1.Automation issues Logic Pro x and VePro 7 8/26/2020 9:13:04 PM

Has anyone else seen automation issues with Logic Pro X and Ve Pro 7? I've been using both for a long time but I've rarely done any automation while using Ve Pro and I'm running into a serious issue that prevents me from using any host automation.
I'm attempting to use the Volume automation controls form within Ve Pro and automate them in Logic. The correct names appear in Logic, and the automation is "working" but the problem is for any movement, it sounds like it's hitting every single step instead of a smooth transition. It sounds similar to if I'm trying to stream way to many samples with a low buffer and everything just starts crackling before it does.

I'm attaching an audio recording (I'm embarrassed to say it's a recording of a recording) but you can hear how it's struggling and then it's fine once the fade stops. The first three cracks are abrupt fades and then the last bit is a slow fade into a steady volume.

Any ideas?

2.Regular crashes... 11/7/2016 10:03:18 PM

Longtime user here. Loving the newest version other than the frequent crashing. I've found that VEPro crashes regularly if I leave it open for multiple hours. For example, I've got a project loaded that has maybe 5 instances of VePro and if I leave it open over night, every morning I come back and VePro has crashed. I'm trying to figure out if there's some process set to run nightly that is interfering somehow with VePro or if it is running into some sort of problem with the autosave. I don't even know where to start. I found it would happen quicker until I turned on autosave in VePro. It used to crash if I left it for a few hours now it seems to stay up for several hours but never over night. Suggestions on where to start?

Latest version of VePro.

3.Which computer for Server and which for DAW 7/17/2016 5:08:55 PM

I've got two mac pro's and I'm wondering which would perform better as the slave server and which would be better for my DAW (Digital Performer and sometimes Logic).

Both have 32GB of RAM. 1 SSD for the system and 1 for some samples. Large 7200 RPM drive for all other streaming.

Compter 1 Mid 2010 3.33 GHz 6-Core

Compter 2 Mid 2010 2 x 2.4GHz Quad Core

I plan on the DAW handling some libraries locally but the large majority of my samples will be coming via VE Pro and the slave machine. The DAW will handle some FX but I also intend to offload much of that to the slave as well. Thoughts?

4.Latency Question 4/8/2016 1:34:56 AM

Thanks Paul. I'm still trying to figure this out. I've got a sequence running in Digital Performer and I currently have two slave machines running VePro. I can  adjust the latency to 0 while I record my fast drum kit part and then after recording the part I can adjust it to 4 correct? Currently, when I adjust some of my tracks to say 0 and some to 4 they aren't playing in sync. It seems to take up more CPU power when I have a lower latency (which I understand) but if it only matters durning recording then shouldn't I be able to raise the latency and everything stays in sync? What am I missing? Do all of the VePro parts have to have the same amount of latency on playback from them to all play back in time?

5.VePro and RAM usage 4/7/2016 11:26:37 PM

Hello,

I've gota Windows 7 box that I'm using as a VePro 64bit Server and I've used it off and on over the last couple years and its been fine...I've never really pushed it too hard. I've been reworking my setup and I'm afraid I've got something seriously wrong with my windows machine. I should say up front that I'm more a Mac guy, I know my way around a PC but don't "mess" with it too much. Anyways...I've got 24GB of RAM but I noticed that the last couple days it doesn't show all that RAM as avilable. For example, I boot up and it shows 24GB, and after intial restart is says 24GB but after a while, it's now down to 20GB of RAM. The other day it showed only 16GB of RAM. I'm not talking about available or anything like that. I'm saying that Windows seems to think some of the RAM isn't even there to be used. I've run windows memory tests and they come back as fine.

Also, a probably related problem is resource monitor shows between 77mb and 0mb as free and say 17GB in standby. Is this normal? This is with one instance of Ve Pro running and one patch loaded (output sounds Signal). Its a beefy patch (Kontakt shows around 2.5Gb) but it shouldn't be causing problems right? Digital performer running on my Master machine (Mac Pro 8core 32GB RAM) is throwing erros trying to play a single track. CPU is spiking when I try to play that single patch on the Windows box. Nothing else is loaded in DP and nothing else is running on Windows. Suggestions?

6.Latency Question 3/6/2016 7:02:07 PM

This may be a dumb question but I'm trying to figure something out. I've got a couple slave machines (Windows 7 machine i7 and a Mac Pro Quad Core) and I'm still getting cpu spikes and issues in Digital performer. I have avilalbe RAM in both slave machines and in my host machine I'm not running anything in the session, only VEPro instances. If I connect a few instruments, I start to get CPU spikes that cause problems in DP. It seems I should be able to load more than 2 instances of VEPro with only 4 instruments loaded in each of those instances. Suggestions? One of the first quesitons I have is with the latency. Currently, I decrease the latency in VEPro to 0 while playing so I can play quick percussive parts. If I increase the latency to 4 durning playback will that keep everything in sync? I'm wondering if latency only affects the time for my to hit a key on my midi keyboard and then play the sample or if latency also effects just the sample playback from the slave.

Thanks.

7.How many computers? 10/27/2015 3:56:25 PM

Hello,

I've tried searching around and I can't find my answer. With the purchase of Vienna Ensemble Pro, how many computers can you install it on? I'm wondering how many servers I can fun with a single purchase. Does it come with more than one? I assume I'll need a key for each computer as well...

8.Latency? Help... 10/9/2013 8:48:23 PM
I've been using a first gen mac pro as my main machine for several years now and to get as much out of it as possible I added VE Pro a while back. For the most part things have worked wonderfully. My main problem and what keeps me from using VePro more and more is it seems to have latency issues I can't get around. I can load a few small instances of Kontakt with maybe one instrument in each. Things work well for a bit but if I leave and come back or the longer i end up working on a project things seem to get more and more behind. Latency or delay of some sort...something causes my playing to be out of sync. If I'm trying to play a part on my keyboard the latency is so long i can't actually get anything done. I know this is somewhat vague but I'm kind of at my wits end and I'd like to get this working.

So far that seems to have fixed it. Thanks!!
10.SOLVED - Problems with DP and VePRo 3/29/2013 7:50:52 PM

If I try to use more then one instance of VePro in a v-rack the instance not currently selected sounds horrible. Sounds like sample rates are off like crazy. It basically produces noise. If I select the midi track associated with that instance, it sounds fine. As far as I can tell, this means I can't have more than one instance of VePro in a v-rack. Anyone else experiencing this?

11.Request 2/3/2013 4:53:31 AM
I would love to have a preference that allows me to setup VePro so that it would save a metaframe when I save my project in my DAW. One of my biggest fears is working on a major project with everything being tweaked and saved in Ve Pro and then something crashes and I lose everything. I know i have preserve and I know when I save the project it can save that in VePro but I think it'd be great to be able to save a project and have VePro name that metaframe with all instances connected using the name of my DAW session. Make sense? Any others think this would be useful?

I too would LOVE to beta test this!
13.Delay between host and slave 8/19/2012 4:09:03 PM
My biggest problem with my setup currently is the delay between my host (logic) and my slave (vePro). I don't think I'm talking about latency. Maybe it is. I can adjust my latency in VePro to "none" and playback seems snappy enough. The problem I'm having is if I have a tempo synced patch (maybe some sort of arpeggiator) loaded into my slave using vePro, it isn't in time with my host daw. If I have a drum part playing inside Logic and then play the patch loaded on my slave, they aren't in time. The slave is slightly slower so it never really fits. This is even if I have my latency setting to none which I think really only affects while I'm playing right? Surely this isn't a problem everyone is having? Seems like a pretty big issue making it almost unusable. Is there a work around?

14.My old projects aren't loading correctly. 4/7/2012 6:59:49 PM
I've recently updated to the most recent version of VE Pro on my Master (Mac Pro) and Slave (Windows 7) machines. I'm trying to finish up an older project and when I open it, it doesn't load the Ve Pro Instances. They are just blank. It used to work where if I had VE Pro open on my server and I loaded a project in Logic it would load whatever instance (plug-in and patch) was used in the saved logic project. Now, it's not working and I don't know exactly what patch (with custom settings) was used. This is terrifying for me since it makes older projects unusable in many instances. Am I doing something wrong? Is there anyway to find out what version of Ve Pro was used when saved and revert back to that version??
15.newbie stopped at the gate VEP and Pro Tools 9 10/22/2011 3:38:35 AM
You need to launch instances from Ve Pro. Make sure you've launched the server version and then just select "add". Once you've added an instance inside the server, it will show up in the Pro Tools rtas window. You need to click "connect" from the rtas menu and you're instances will show up there.

The manual explains it better then I do. ;-)
16.VE Pro 5 10/20/2011 6:32:17 PM
Any update on when ver5 will release and how much to upgrade?
17.VE 4.1.8861 uses 2GB RAM more than 4.1.7043 (Windows 7, 64 bits) 10/10/2011 11:01:49 PM
Could be the same problem I'm having. I'll have to check my RAM usage later. I upgraded and suddenly I can't play anything. Dropped notes on single note, single instrument. Used to work wonderfully.
18.latency introduced over time 10/3/2011 8:43:07 PM
buffer on both machines hasn't changed at all.

this is over ethernet. I'm not running an instance outside of Logic on the same machine. I'm going straight form my Mac Pro into a custom Windows 7 box. Everything works well except this delay. I find myself restarting just to clear things out when one of the main reasons for using VE Pro was so I could leave large templates open and not have to reload all the time. Any ideas on what I could check?
19.latency introduced over time 10/3/2011 7:15:48 PM
ideas?
20.latency introduced over time 10/2/2011 5:56:24 PM
Does it make sense that over time latency seems to get longer? I've got some samples loaded (mostly in PLAY) and if I leave things open say overnight the next morning if I come back and try to play a faster passage, there is noticeable delay or latency making it harder to work with. I haven't changed anything, the only thing I've done is left things open. Almost like a type of memory leak where overtime things get slower and slower. I love VE Pro but have noticed this lately and it makes things less usable.
21.The upcoming VI Pro update. 9/29/2011 4:42:35 PM
Did I read somewhere that this is also an update to VE Pro coming soon? Any more info on this? How much?

thanks.
22.Opening slave monitors on host computer 5/12/2011 1:43:39 AM
you don't need to upgrade. There are actually other options available as well. You can run Real VNC. Basically, you setup a VNC server (which is like a service that runs on your PC slaves) You can then access them using built in Screen sharing (snow leopard) or using a VNC client (chicken of the VNC is a good one).

Hope that makes sense.
23.Opening slave monitors on host computer 5/11/2011 4:48:53 AM
Yes. if you're machines are all on the same network (sharing your gigabit router) then you can remotely view the desktop of each.

I myself use CORD instead of Microsofts Remote Desktop Connection. You can also look at using Synergy which works well in some settings.
24.Velocity Max and PLAY 4/20/2011 3:49:09 PM
I shouldn't have said "standalone". I actually meant running inside logic which I know isn't standalone. In Logic, If I limit the max velocity inside the PLAY interface (on QL Pianos for example) I hear a sound anytime I play a note. If I play a note higher then the max velocity, I still hear a note, but instead of playing the sample for say a velocity of 127 (which is what I hit the key at), it plays the sample for velocity 80 (which is the max).

It sounds like I'll need to look around a bit inside VePro. PLAY is functioning differently inside VePro then it is inside Logic. I want it to function the same for both.
25.Velocity Max and PLAY 4/19/2011 10:09:32 PM
I'm having an interesting problem with VePRO and Play. I'm used to limiting my velocity with the PLAY instruments by adjusting the Velocity Max field so I only play soft notes of the piano for example no matter how hard I play. Right now with Play in VePRO when I decrease the velocity max from 127, it won't play anything when velocities exceed that amount. So, if I put the velocity max to 80 and play a velocity of 120, I don't hear anything. What I'm used to with PLAY standalone is if I play 120 velocity, it will play the maximum velocity (this being 80). I like to use the velocity max to limit the samples used but right now, it isn't working that way. Anyone else having this problem?
