1.Please welcome: Steinway & Sons D-274 1/16/2019 8:07:11 PM

@wolfgang: You can tell by looking at the sample content. You will see a file called "SY-Steinway-D_Patches_Update01.vsynvolume" (see attached screenshot), which overrules the existing "SY-Steinway-D_Patches.vsynvolume" (newer file wins).

This file organizes the way the samples are structured and will also affect your existing user presets.

Great!  Thank you Paul

Thanks so much, Paul! Forgive the question, but is there any way to tell for sure that the update has been successfully installed? I think I did it properly, but it would be great to know for sure. Also, if we had created user presets, will this update automatically take effect if we load such a user preset? Many thanks!!
3.UVI/Mach 5 in VEPRO 5 5/27/2013 6:12:31 PM

I had a similar problem.  I contacted UVI about this last week and they've since put out an updated version (2.0.11) which fixed the issue for me within VE Pro server.  Hope this helps out!

I'm anxious to hear how the solution to this issue is progressing as well.

Thanks Ron for the fast reply!

Yeah, that makes sense. But I guess it can't be great to have MIR and the sequencer on the same partition. What do you think?

Guy, my pleasure.  Any time!

Well....my secondary test system is not the absolute best case scenario system for MIR.  On the other hand, I was running both MIR and the sequencer on the same partition and my results show that this setup is viable for small to medium size orchestrations.  Also, keep in mind that you can lower the buffer as you play in individual lines, and then raise the buffer (and MIR's own buffer multiplier) when you play the entire piece back.

Hope this helps out, I'm happy to share any other results I can with you.

Take care, Guy.

Ron, On my Mac Intel Xeon, I made a partition of about 150 GB to install Windows 7, so a dual system. I then installed MIR on the PC partition. The problem I have now is to bridge the midi using MIDIoverLAN from my Mac to Windows, I currently use Logic Pro, but how do I get from there to MIR? What should the configurations be? This is not very conventional way of doing it and MIR being new and all but if anybody knows about this I'd appreciate some help. Thanks!

Hi Guy,

On my setup, I used cubase within windows (the windows version of cubase).  It's not possible to run logic on the mac partition and MIR on the windows partition at the same time.  Unfortunately, I don't think logic is available for windows, so you'll probably have to have a sequencer that works in windows.  Then you'll be able to run the sequencer and MIR off of your windows partition.

I hope that helps.

Best,

-Ron

Dietz wrote:

One of the Beta testers had MIR running and working on Bootcamp and reported ok-ish results. (Ron, would you please recapitulate your findings ...? TIA!)

Dietz, my pleasure:

Folks, one of my test systems was an early 2008 Mac Pro octocore 3.2
ghz with 32 gigs of ram, running Windows 7 and an RME Fireface 800, cubase 5.0.1 is running on the same computer.  This system is certainly no slouch, but is a generation old.

My findings were as follows:

Buffer 128 is not really a viable option
for more than a hanful of instruments.  At buffer 512, I can run
roughly 15-18 instruments at approximately 75% cpu consumption before clicks and pops begin (all perf-legato patches for these testing purposes).  I can
basically double that at 1024.  Buffer set at x2.  Keep in mind, however, that at 1024 w/ x2 buffer, there is some latencty.  It's actually a fairly viable MIR solution for smallish-medium orchestrations, but don't expect to mockup Mahler ;-). Also, MIR's buffer should be set at x2 or above.

If
someone were planning to use this kind of rig for MIR, I would definitely recommend having the Sequencer on another computer.

I'm happy to answer any questions about this kind of setup.

Best,

-Ron

Kerry, I was away from the forum for a few days so I missed your message.  Glad to hear that you
have fixed your problem.  I'm located in Manhasset, Long Island and
would be glad to come in to NYC to try to help you out if you ever have any other issues.

11.Vienna Imperial 5/29/2009 4:11:23 PM

Jay, superb work.  You have a wonderful sense of this piece.  I've played it myself and I'm very fond of your interpretation here.  Excellent job.

12.Price for MIR 5/22/2009 1:30:45 AM

I agree with DG.  Get spilling Dietz!  I'd also love to know what a translation of "Really soon now" means in real world terms ;-)

13.Price for MIR 5/17/2009 6:31:40 PM

Peter, my understanding is that....no, you won't use a different machine for VI (Vienna Instruments) and MIR.  They are both on the same machine.  The MIR engine hosts the Vienna Instruments like VE does right now.  But, you won't host VE on the same machine on which MIR is running.  So, in other words, If you get downloadable MIR, you won't really have any reason to use VE anymore until VE pro comes out with its additional hosting capabilites for other libraries etc...

14.Learn and Optimize 5/10/2009 3:23:16 AM

Hi Kay,

Colin is correct.  If you're adding in volume or cc11 after you've already optimized, you're fine.  The only thing to be wary of is adding in controller info that will trigger different samples.  So, for example, if you are operating with velocity crossfading on, then you won't be able to add velocity controller info in after learning and optimizing because it will probably trigger samples that have been expunged by the optimizer.

Cheers!

15.Mir Demos - Great ... but quite dry? 4/13/2009 12:58:26 AM
Dietz wrote:
Like stated before: We strongly suggest the use of processors of the Intel i7-family for the use with Vienna MIR.

Dietz, I believe the Nehalem processors Austin is mentioning are, in fact, server-grade xeon i7 processors (released just last week) I think.  I assume these would be as good or perhaps even better for MIR than the consumer i7s, yes?

16.Strauss Zarathustra with Altiverb versus Zarathustra with MIR 3/17/2009 6:17:26 PM
lgrohn wrote:

Richard Strauss died 1949 so his works are copyrighted until 2019.

So all mockups of his works are ILLEGAL.

Not true at all (at least not in the U.S.).  Also Sprach was published in 1896, (before the key date of 1923) and is therefore a public domain work here.  Works of Strauss published after 1923 are potentially still copyrighted.  May be different for EU countries, but to say all mockups of Strauss' works are illegal is simply false.

21.I hate VSL. 3/3/2009 11:43:41 PM

Dietz is 100% right.  The Cornet is easily in my top 5 for favorite VSL instruments.  It is absolutely fantastic.  Welcome to the world of VSL Wink

22.Best results for 'lush' VSL strings - which Altiverb IR do you use? 3/2/2009 8:01:57 PM

Hey Rob,

I've tried a bunch of different Altiverb IRs and settings.  Like you, I've found ToddAO to be the best of the bunch with VSL strings.  Sorry I don't have any alternatives to offer up.

23.Vienna Ensemble is brilliant 2/27/2009 5:20:40 PM

I agree whole heartedly with the above statements.  I'll add that, for me, the release of MIR represents a milestone in the world of sampling.  Only VSL have the vision and patience to see this gargantuan project through to completion and I think this sets them apart from their competitors.

William,

I experienced a similar problem with VE3.  Paul has informed me that VSL are aware of the problem and that it will be fixed in the next version of VE3 (and so probably VE2 as well).  I believe this version is being tested right now.
