    Any plan of a VSL Composer Cloud, more or less like East and West does, in sight in the near future?

    What a coincidence💡

    I actually suggested this cloud idea to VSL as a remedy for the never ending dongle dilemma a year or so ago but changed my mind after many users voiced a never ending list of concerns.

     

    Do any of you use this Eastwest composer cloud? 

    One problem I can forsee is a bottleneck issue.  It's like online graphic instensive video games that slow down because of volume.  In the video game world we are only talking a gig or two of data at the most but if you and God knows how many others are trying to load and stream huge orchestral templates from the Internet you might run into problems.  Then again, if Eastwest can make it work I don't see why VSL couldn't.

     

    I guess it wouldn't be a bad option if they can get it to work and it remains just an option.

    I'm planning to take advantage of their Crhistmas offer, but if had VSL an equally advantageous proposal, I might reconsider the matter... 😉

    They're not streaming the samples. You have to fully download and install the libraries on your hard drive. The whole "cloud" thing is quite misleading in that regard.

    I have just tried the ewql composer cloud, works like a charm. You download the libraries you want/need and as long as your subscription is valid you can use them. No streaming from any "cloud", just save them locally on your drive and use as any other vst.

    If VSL had a similar option I would just love it!

    Okay, well that does make a difference. 

    So does anybody know how they handle the licensing?  Basically are you paying for something like a demo license that you renew every 30 days or something?  If you stop paying they let the license expire and not recharge your starts?

    The Audition Player could be a sign, that a cloud Service is just around the corner. It would be great If we would not have to buy expensive ssd-computers anymore AND it would be even greater when existing customers had alltime free access then (especially the ones who bought the bundles ;) BR Lars

    Yes, but I think it is fair, because as far as I understand the time-counter is only running down when you're active playing the instrument. That means: You can leave the session and go to lunch without headaches because the timerunner stops when you're inactive/not playing.

    EW costs 279€ for an entire year. I'm seriously considering it!

    Cloud services exists for one thing - forcing people to pay a monthly fee instead of just buy a license permanently.

    It costs hugely more to pay for this, and in fact is an option only  for successful businesses or professionals who have lots of money constantly flowing in, and not for impoverished composers/musicians.  I hate Adobe for forcing people to use cloud on Photoshop.    

    The only reason this "creative cloud" is being done is that it makes more money for the software company, at the huge expense of the individual software user. I will never buy a piece of software that forces me to pay a monthly fee simply for permission to use it in my studio - if you don't pay your files don't work anymore!  That is a total rip-off.

    The other thing is - monthly fees are good for companies, not individuals.    Also, CC is a justification for planned obsolescence - - basically incorporating incompetent design in need of constant updating into software DELIBERATELY.   The people at Adobe can just relax and enjoy the wash of monthly fees, and maybe get around to tweaking that bug they left in last month, if they feell like it.  It is a really bad business model because it not only allows, but actually demands, messed-up products.   Sorry I don't mean to start frothing at the mouth at the mention of creative (i.e. composer) cloud but that topic just sets me off because monthly fees are being jammed down everyone's throat by just about every company in existence now!

    Cloud subscriptions like EW composer cloud, and Adobe Creative cloud work well for those who want the latest samples/software all the time. In that case, it can save you money. If VSL had something similar, I would subscribe in no time! The composer cloud offer was too tempting for me, so I actually ended up subscribing. Although, as a product, I prefer VSL. But I hate to say this, this cloud product works great. Now the possibilities are endless! It's overwhelming actually. I feel like a child being thrown in a candy pit.

    Also, I intend to use the EW samples to enhance my VSL mixing now. In any case, if I find myself not using it as much, I will unsubscribe.

    As a software engineer myself, I highly doubt companies are deliberately messing up their products due to cloud subscriptions. Although, I do think it can make them lazy. On the other hand, it does demand that they introduce new features every year, although maybe not as many as in the case were it not a subscription model..

    +1, I would love to see a VSL composer cloud. I have used EW composer cloud and it works pretty good. However, I have had constant issues with their *Play* engine, so I cancelled. I have no issues with Vienna Esnemble or the Player, and I also love the the sound and dryness of the instruments. Vienna is my number one library for composing music.  I think having a VSL composer cloud will open up doors for Vienna by bringing in more customers because it will be much more affordable for customer to pay by the month than to fully buy out each instrument. Eastwest seems to have been very succesful at this including bringing in new customers.
