  • Some days I just HATE technology!

I've spent my entire day rebooting my computer!!!

Gonna try dumping my beloved Sonar 5 and moving to Cubase SX3. Hopefully that will salvage any fragments of my sanity remaining.

    Fingers crossed,
    Jay

Good Luck, Jay. Are you sure it's Sonar giving you probs?
Is it worth uninstalling, then re installing again?
    Regards,

    Alex.

  • I feel your pain (but I enjoy your music)...
Spent the whole day chasing down a bad memory stick after weeks of erractic
behaviour. (my comp that is....not me...)
    Hang in there.

  • Hang in there bro - keep your music coming our way [:D] .

The latest build of SX is what I am using and rarely get crashes - if ever. The most solid yet IMHO.

  • 4 weeks ago I got a 60gb video iPod.

It worked fine for a week then my PC wouldn't recognise it.

I spent three weeks going thru every official and unofficial iPod forum. I tracked down Mr internet USB man and spent time and money doing everything USB.

I reinstalled windows and spent hours searching the Microsoft support site.

Eventually I peeled back the onion layers of Microsoft support and got an appointment with a researcher!! (That's about five layers in) and we had one of those "Have you plugged it in...." type conversations. I'm too embarrased to say what I'd done but I truly, truly hate computers and everything to do with them.

Well no actually I love my iPod. I can put every CD I own on this tiny silver and white thing and carry all my music round with me where ever I go. 600+ hours of music (and only just over half full).

  • Jay, as already stated, we sympathize greatly...

but it makes we aware that we all deal with these problems and that I'm not alone...and thus, don't have to curl up into the fetal position when I go to sleep and curse (well, I'll continue to do this) at my computer at 730am after an entire night of figuring out just how to make things work.

  • Thanks for the cyber-sympathy all. Feeling a bit better already!

    [:D]

    Best,
    Jay

  • Yeah, Jay.

    Hang on in there.

    Customer Support-- new definition:

The support customers give to each other. [:D]

  • Sorry to hear you have problems Jay, although I'm also sorry to say that I'm quite certain that Sonar's not to blame... Absolutely and totally rock solid over here, every single day. There is probably some kind of evil combination of hardware and software somewhere...but where?? [8-)]

  • Hey Mattias,

Are you using the new Atliverb 5 with Sonar and VSL?

    Best,
    Jay

  • No, I haven't picked that one up...yet. I was scared off by the reports of problems when using VI and Alitverb together. FOR ONCE I decided not to be a guinea pig... [:D]

Is VI/Alti/Sonar the combination that fails while VI/Alti/SX is ok? If so I think we'd better go bug some people... [[;)]]

    /Mattias

  • I have been bugging the Altiverb people. They can't replicate my crashes. [*-)] I'll let you know how SX works with VSL+Altiverb as soon as I finish my latest (and probably last) project on Sonar.

    Best,
    Jay

  • Ok, have you talked to the Sonar guys??

    /Mattias

  • GREAT THREAD!

I have never been more antagonized by all things computer/software related in my life. I was wondering how everyone copes with it out there. It seems like everytime you want to do some simple thing you end up in a wrestling match for three days (or much, much longer.)

It's not that it drives you insane: it's that you have to be insane to begin with to do what we do.

  • You might wanna demo Cubase for a while before you buy the dongle. [[;)]]

So many variables: Your host, your sampler, the size of your loaded samples vs. system-resources, device-resource conflicts, wether you're using your sampler standalone/vst/dxi...etc...

I'd be hard-pressed to ditch Sonar's intuitive interface before exhausting all other possibilities (and I'm only using Sonar4).

  • Hey Jay,

I had two lockups within an hour today. That's a first. I'm running OS X 10.4.7, with Logic Pro 7.2.1, so I wonder if it could even be platform independent. I know I didn't have anything like this until the VIs got on my machine; the (very) rare kernel panic, but not complete lockups like this. Very strange. The first couple of times it happened I kind of suspected RAM, so I bought some new stuff and everything seemed okay, until today. Frustrating. I sure hope this isn't to do with Stinkrosoft. That's got to be the most infuriatingly bloated copy protection on the market...

    J.

  • Hello Jay,
For my information and try to soluce my own problems, can you detail your crash:
first boot and first project load or first boot and second project load in your sequencer?!
    Why this question:
because my own problems with Sx and Vi comes when I work with a second project in my sequencer without to reboot my pc?! (no problem with the first project loaded in sx3)

    What I found:
I expereienced some improvement (without to reboot) when switching between two projects if I do:
    -closed the sequencer
-close syncrosoft and vidaemon task in the Ctrl-alt-delete
    - Delete the *.pf files in WINDOWS\\Prefetch exept layout.ini
    - reopen the sequencer and load the second project

    Best regards
    Dup

  • I've often fantasized about taking my system out in a black trash bag.

Maybe it's because I'm a newbie, but I still anticipate the benefits--the sounds.

Also, I tell myself to relax, approach it like a scientist, or a zen master (or a zen newbie?)...Some people do crossword puzzles to boost their brain cells. I wrestle with SX, VI, etc.--and hope it'll make me stronger. [:)]

  • get a mac

    he he he!!!!!!!
