I am writing an ensemble piece for solo cello and piano and I wanted to let you know that of all the sound libraries available, the VI solo cello is the best-sounding, has the most articulations and flexibility is using those articulations, especially when using the KS dump library file in Finale. It encourages creativity without forcing the composer to become mired in implementation details. I have one suggestion, though, maybe something to consider for future library enhancements. I would like to see the addition of a martele/martellato articulation; right now I use the long detache, which is adequate, but martele would be a worthwhile articulation for contemporary classical, it is used quite a bit in the Shostakovich cello concerto #1 and works well in a 20th/21st century context.

Replying to my own post--I found a suitable hack for martele by using the sforzato-vib patch in the dynamics section and, in the advanced view of VI Pro, decreasing the release time by two-thirds. That seems to work for now.

Thank you for that tip

I tried it as you suggested and I like the sound of it.  I always thought there was something missing in the medium to short articulations so I would compensate by using the time stretch feature.

Mind you, I'm not a string player by training so I wouldn't know a martele/martellato from a martini/spumonte but your hack fills in some gaps for me.

Thanks again
