At least that's how I can bring my imagination to life: what fun it would be to play a woodwind quintet in a huge beautiful space like the Teldex Recording studio! :)  I just got MIR and I have to say that is my favourite sounding space!

I re mixed and mastered my husband's woodwind quintet "Euphoria" in the Teldex. I'm sure a quintet would not normally record in a huge space like this but I'm just excited about the feeling of space I can get with this.

Would love to know your thoughts.

Here is the new version using Symphonic Cube woodwinds & french horn (no extended library), MIR Teldex:  https://soundcloud.com/carovillano/euphoria-remastered

This is the old version with a different reverb plugin: https://soundcloud.com/carovillano/euphoria-for-woodwind-quintet

I also re-mixed and remastered his "Inertia" (chamber violins, piccolo, flute, oboe, bassoon, contrabassoon, brass, piano) to try using Vienna Ensemble Pro for the first time to get instruments from different libraries all into the same instance of MIR.  I tried mixing the Appasionata strings that came with VEPRO into this version too. Thanks for answering all my questions at the starting stages!

Here is the new version using the Neuer Saal.  To maintain the clarity I really fiddle with the dry/wet settings both in MIR and  MIRacle:  https://soundcloud.com/carovillano/inertia-remastered

Here is the old version to compare: https://soundcloud.com/carovillano/inertia

Thanks for your feedback and assistance!  This is a big learning curve but the end results are worth it!

Hi Becky.
Let me say that «Euphoria» is really a good work no matter the space you put it into.
Teldex is actually a huge one for a wind quintet as it sounds like they were caught in rehearsal.
Interesting experiment. Congratulations.

Thank you. David was very happy to hear you enjoyed Euphoria. We just listened to Inertia and Euphoria on our Bose L1 system and, wow! It sounded like a live performance.

Bravo, this new version of Euphoria is wonderful. Beatiful sound, thanks to the remastering and Teldex. It might be a huge room for a small ensemble, the reverb settings can be adapted to any kind of orchestral strength. You've made the right choice here.

This piece is FANTASTIC!!! And such a lovely sound :-) Super great interweaving lines, throughout this beast! (Referring to "Euphoria.") Awesome!

I second everyone's opinion.

This is wonderful piece, very mature composition and quite well rendered too, although on rare occastions I wonder if the right articulation was used.

I can get back with the specific instances where I think this might be ... although I know I was supposed to get back to you about your string piece as well, but just got busy with other stuff ;)

From listening to the pieces you have posted I think Dave is developing his own unique style, that seems to be influenced by the accordian. Would be interesting to se this develop as he hwrites more and more.

This piece reminds me of Richard strauss's masterful suite for 13 wind instruments. (written when he was a conservatory student!)

Best

Hi Anand!
Thanks so much for your response. Having such a beautiful sounding instrument library is definitely a great inspiration for David to compose more and I love love love VSL's wood winds. When you get a chance, have a listen to the full orchestra realization of his "Chasing Brilliance" in the previous thread. It's the first time I attempted an orchestra after learning so much from your suggestions for the Chamber strings piece, Classical Follies.
All the best,
Becky
