Hi, this is perhaps a silly question but would these two communicate with each other? My very short-lived affair with the fuzzy logic of "Logic" is over. I have two spare G4 Macs I would like to use with VSL and Kontakt. The VSL products I owe is a full Pro Edition with Logic/EXS and a Giga Side License. I'd love the type of functionality and stabilty I have with Gigastudio/Performance tool on the PC side with Kontak2 running on OSX machines.

I believe Kontakt 2 will import EXS library quiet faithfuly, but how would I manage to triger the performances in Kontakt ? Incidentally, my EXS/Logic license hasn't even been activated yet. My thouhts are that if I am to use "Logic" to compose music, I might as well take up painting. My hat's off to all of your logic afficionados!

These are the products I have registered:

Pro Edition
Strings TASCAM Gigastudio 2.5 16 bit / 44.1 kHz
Brass & Woodwinds TASCAM Gigastudio 2.5 16 bit / 44.1 kHz
Percussion TASCAM Gigastudio 2.5 16 bit / 44.1 kHz
Performance Set TASCAM Gigastudio 2.5 16 bit / 44.1 kHz
Strings EMAGIC EXS mkII 16 bit / 44.1
Brass & Woodwinds EMAGIC EXS mkII 16 bit / 44.1 kHz
Percussion EMAGIC EXS mkII 16 bit / 44.1 kHz
Performance Set EMAGIC EXS mkII 16 bit / 44.1

Thanks for your comments or suggestions. [Wink]

Thank you, Bachwerks

welcome bachwerks,
unfortunately you will not like the answer ... basically no.

the performance tool for logic/exs24mkII works as *plugin into the plugin* - exs instruments have a certain mapping and the performance tool is just detecting mappings for the performance elements, processing midi information and forwarding this to the exs-sampler - now you can't get the processed midi out again.

initially for logic 5.5 (PC) we tried to chain a track from logic through a stand-alone performance tool back to a second track with a performance instrument, but failed miserably ...

now you could try the following: install the standalone performance tool for mac (i'll send you an email for details) and chain a midi-track of logic through the performance tool to kontakt (you might need an AU- or VST-host in front of kontakt) and use the .pal-files from the giga-version for the default presets.

there are no kontakt programs available for the pro edition, but all single note instruments from the cube could be imported and used directly without such a workaround.

edit: please email me your registered email address -i can't find the one you are using here in the forum
and remember: a CRAY is the only computer that runs an endless loop in just four hours ...

Just sent you PM with my registered e-mail address. Thank you for taking the time to respond. The stand-alone performance tool into Kontakt 2 seems intriguing enough to try.

Best, Bachwerks

I am sure that all who at some point contacted VSL Technical support already know this, but I wanted to publicly share my absolute astonishment with the quality of the technical support these guys offer. This was not only my first post here, but it was also my first request for tech support to VSL. The VSL tech support is absolutely unrivaled. Literally within several minutes of my post, there was an e-mail from Christian at VSL offering support and suggestions. I have yet to experience this level of support from any hi-tech company out there. Thank you Christian and VSL. You guys are the best!
