  • Installation crashes mac at same point every time

    Hello,

Just received Special Edition. Using the 1.11 installer on an Intel Mac, and the library installer crashes the mac every time when going from cab 4 to 5.

It crashes when installing from the dvd as well as from the files copied to the harddrive (all 4 dvds copied to the hard drive with out issue).

Is there any other option for unpacking the library?

    Thanks,

    Tyler

  • welcome tyler, most likely it is a problem with your DVD drive reading a .cab-file (unfortunately OS X doesn't tell if a file could not copy to disk correctly) - if you have by chance an alternative DVD drive please try this one.

edit: we also notice problems from time to time with older superdrives - what is your model?

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • Thanks for the quick response. Its a 16x drive. I'll try using an external drive when I get back tonight, and see if that makes a difference.

Can I perform the installation on a Windows machine (XP or Vista) and then move the installed library to the Mac?

    Thanks

this would be also possible - installing the .cab files results in a series of .dat files, which you can move to any desired location later.
just don't forget to run the directory manager then according to the manual and video tutorial

  • very strange - tried with an external drive, and it still crashed in exactly the same spot. one of those grey letter screen crashes.

so loaded the sycrosoft drivers on the pc, and using the same external drive, installed the full library. copied it to the mac using an external firewire drive, ran the folder manager, and all is good.

look forward to trying it out this weekend - if i don't find some time before then.

    thanks again.
