  • VSL Podcast Show 40 (Greg Smith- Music of Star Trek- Interview)

Long overdue in coming was this podcast but it's finally here. Getting to the point where I need a staff to help me put these podcasts together :P Anyways, This time I have Hollywood composer and arranger Greg Smith on the line and talking to us about his career and experiences on the Star Trek TV shows. Also some product news .. although this news comes a little late due to my ongoing time commitments to scoring the Star Trek Fan film - Starship Farragut. (Details to follow on this in show 41). Greg was brilliant to talk to and we really geeked out on Star Trek for a good portion of it which was a lot of fun to do. This show will certainly be an interesting listen for Trekkies and anyone who is looking at career options in the film industry as Greg discusses how he got into the business. So please check it out.

  • You know what I just realized that Vienna Ensemble might not be such a practical thing to use. The big problem I see is that you cannot freeze individual instruments inside the Vienna Ensemble so once you are composing with a huge amount of samples........ OH well in that case I'll have to stop using the freeze function and depend on the "Learn" function to take samples out of my RAM... oh wait a second.... that makes me see another problem.

When the samples are unloaded from the VI through the Learn function, will that be saved after closing the project? Because if I have to use the "Lean" function everytime I load the project, that will not only be time consuming, but I could potentially run out of RAM before I even load the project which will basically render the project impossible to open.

    Hi Mr. Hickler,

Thanks for writing and I’m sorry it took so long to respond.  Yes, you heard some Vienna in Oblivion.  I blended it with live musicians.  There are many great libraries out there now but I like Vienna and highly recommend it.  Good luck with your education and eventual career!

    Sincerely,
    Jeremy Soule

  • Where the hell did you get his e-mail Address .. I've been trying to hunt him down to interview him for the podcast for ages :P Well if you e-mail him again .. let him know that I love his music and would really love to get him on the show. We'll just have to see how the Vienna Ensemble works out. I think it'll be great cos I know the kinds of minds that have gone into this project. Heto

  •  So where can i get the post cast?

  • http://www.elvenmusic.com/podcast/podcast.html I must admit that the lack of response that these post I make does make me wonder if anyones still listening.

  • I certainly check with my iTunes every day if it has been a while since the last one. Always informative and pleasant, but perhaps, like a lot of others here who always tune in, do not find a need to comment on them on these fora; perhaps we should, but remember, no comments could mean no complaints, really just silent appreciation! Thanks for all the great work (yes, one day I must purchase the album I grant you), and best wishes, Errios.

  •  Thanks man, this will be the tirhd pod cast i watch.

Keep them coming, there's never to mcuh info about this  if you ask me.

  • Thanks for the vote of confidence. I just don't seem to have the time that I once had to be able to do the show on a weekly basis. However I have some great material for future podcasts relating to creation of music and technical type things.... I so need to update the Mix and reverb portions of my site. And you're right .. there's no particular reason for anyone to have to say anything about the shows, and I do get the occasional e-mail from people giving me there regards for the show. Anyways, got some good stuff coming up and hopefully the next show will be out next week. Heto

  • Are you serious. You have to be joking. Since I'm learning to make music now , I understand the time it takes to finish any project, still a rookie. So this is the only reason you don't have hate mail. Because i would been bugging you about why it is taking so long for you to update the Pod cast every week. But when I do get them i listen close. 1or 4 times. There great for when I'm in traffic. But trust me i had a friend in the car one day who  said  these a great, and he shocked me because he the type to change my channel to something else all the time. So keep it up. Your the needle in the hay stack when it come to VSL pod cast.
