  • Performance Tool Update?

I was just wondering if there will be any patches and/or updates to the Performance Tool at all. If there will be, there is one very small thing that I suspect would help with speeding up the mundane stuff.

I'm not sure if everyone works similiarly to me in this regard, but I've got a project drive where I keep all working projects stored. In any one of the many project directories, one will find all the necessary Cubase SX .npr project files and versions, all the needed .gsp files that correspond to different giga machines, and most recently, all the required .vlp Performance Tool files that the project needs.

When opening up a .gsp in giga, the program will look by default to the last directory it opened from, and in this case, it's usually from a project directory across the network on my master machine, buried with all the other stuff. While it's not that big a deal to click through all the directories to get there the way it is now, it would make things so much faster if the Performance Tool would automatically start with the last directory it opened from. Cubase does this too, and it really does save a small chunk of effort over time.

The nature of working on music like this entails that either A - we leave all our machines on until a project is finished, or B - we find ourselves opening the same projects over and over again. Maybe I'm just really lazy [H] , but I think this would be a very small but positive change to the Tool. Any thoughts?

  • Hi Mike!

I work exactly the way you do, and I suggested the same kind of improvement in another thread earlier today. Shortcuts for last used project files would be more than welcome.

    Martin

  • I agree! Would be very nice!!!

    And another concern as well:

When will the 4-port version of the performance tool be available, Herb??? [[;)]]

  • folks (and please apologize adressing you snotty),

the way the performancetool selects it's starting-folder has been decided by chris - it's´not a problem to do it another way around, but now it is as it is
i would like to add, that on the other hand you might not wish, that the accidental last selcted folder will get the default - it would also be possible to include a mru (=most recently used) list into the open-dialog, but finally there can be only _one_ method be applied to the tool (maybe we shoud start a poll about this question?)

to say it frankly: chris is working on the performance-tool for EXS and everybody who knows something from the differences between windows and mac-os knows, what a hellish job it is to transfer the funcionality (and chris has my deep respect on doing this) - so i'm sure we all don't want to take his mind off that too much ...

and to deliver another bad news: it looks like the multi-port-tool will be released not until the pro-edition (and i'm happy we're not in the ancient rome, where bad things happend to the bearer of bad news ...)

please don't forget, this is a totally new approach to handle articulations of sounds and be assured we'll keep track on any bug that turns up as well as on any thoughts regarding improvement of the tool

in this sense, chris - not beeing chris - tian

  • atleast there are updates [;)]

you could have very well just made the tool and left it as is. Its good to know that there's still alot of work going into it.

  • I understand and can wait for the multi-port tool to be released with the pro edition. I really think, however, an update is needed sooner to fix the note sticking problem. It's just killing me. Is this a possibility? Thanks for the wonderful software and samples folks! (I don't want to seem unappreciative!)

Edit: I just read in another thread that this might be related to Cubase SX (what I use). Is there any information on this that can support or refute? Any tips to get the tool not to lock up and have sticking notes every 3-5 minutes? Thanks!!

  • I'm using DP and get a note (notes) sticking problem also. My guess is it's giga related.

    hi@all - it's out after all
please log in to the userarea at www.vsl.co.at and download the new version

PERFORMANCE TOOL 1.1 - important Installation notes:

Please uninstall your previous version of the
Performance Tool before running the new installer!

    You can do this selecting:
    START - Settings - Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs
select VSL MIDI Performance Tool - Remove

    Note:
    =====
No ToolSet you created will be removed during this process,
but you should make a backup-copy of any altered default preset
(.vlp, .pal), as these files will be replaced with the original
    files during the installation process

    News on v1.1

    Fixes:

Hanging Repetition Mode when using with sequencer

    Additions:

Shortcuts for File I/O in all Tools and Main Dialog
You can access Open, Save and Save As... via Ctrl+Key combinations

Reset Button added in all Modes in case the tool gets stuck (please feedback if flaws occur)

Added a layout convenience in Repetition and Alternation Mode:

Whenever you hold the ShiftKey and click in ArrowButtons all successive boxes
will be set to the same value. All above will be untouched.

Added 1st Key OFF FunctionKey: Now you can turn on and off the skipping of the first entry in the boxes
with 2 different keys - which is better suited for working with a sequencer than the previous toggle.

    kind regards, christian

  • This is great! I'll be installing it and check it out this weekend. Thanks so much for the wonderful support!

  • Wonderfull Chris! Thanks a lot!!! [:P]

bUT WHAT ABOUT THE "WHITE LETTERS" phenomenon???
It is in REP and ALT mode only, that the black colour of the keys is changed to white... LEG mode is ok! Must have to do with the tool itself!

    Any further ideas about that?

    Thanks a lot, Chris

    Matt

  • After a day of working with the new tool I have to say it seems the note sticking problem is fixed! THANK YOU! You have no idea how much nicer my life is now. [:D] I haven't even needed to use the reset feature yet!

I will suggest that it would be more convienent to have a global reset button on the front panel rather than nested inside each channel's parameters. Much like giga's reset button. But, like I said, I haven't needed to use the reset feature yet so maybe it's not so big a deal.

The save/open dialogue box opening to the last used place is also a great addition.

Again, thanks for the wonderful support!

  • I just wanted to add how much I appreciate your commitment to excellence and to your customers' needs. Thanks for listening, and even more, thanks for thinking ahead and doing things before they are even asked for! I'll download the new version first thing tommorrow.

    Best,
