  • lynx aurora 8

    Hi

I would like  to buy a new sound card an try vista 64+nuendo 4+vsl

    So My questions are

1 Does any of you have experience with the lynx aurora 8 sound card?

Now i am a (not happy)creamware user and i think lynx is a good choice.

3 does anyone know how to run video on a an second pc?(without buying an other nuendo)

    thanks to all

  • 1) I can't help you with your soundcard enquiry, being a RME user, but I just wondered which versions on Nuendo/Cubase you were thinking of using; 32bit or 64bit?

    2) Currently there is no difference between Cubase and Nuendo for film scoring per se, however if you need things like extra export/import types or pull up/down or 9pin machine sync, then you need Nuendo. The automation in nuendo is also far superior to Cubase, and a new video handling is promised and this almost certainly won't be in Cubase.

    3) Regarding video on another machine, you could try Chaingang, or even VST System Link, if you want to buy an extra copy of Cubase.

  • I am thinking of 16 gb ram under the 64bit pc version(because i want to avoid the network solution)

l found that aurora is an A/D,D/A converter and not a sound card,so i would also have to buy the AES16 card. This means :AURORA+AES=LOT OF MONEY

RME is also a good choise.Wich model do you recomend me?

I prefer an internal pci express card (a breakout box would be nice) with 8 or more I/O for surround mixing and vista 64 drivers.

By the way, what do you think about the bluesky system 1 for monitors?

    thanks

  • I currently use RME Multiface, but am just about to upgrade to a Multiface II. Both have 64bit drivers for XP64.

I would steer clear of Cubendo 64bit for the moment, and with VE it is not really necessary.

  • Another thought on the Cubase vs Nuendo question - apart from the extra sync/import/export options, and the amazing new automation, the other trick Nuendo does is Warp to Picture - similar to the Audiowarp in Cubase, but for frame-accurate tweaking - an absolute godsend when the director comes back with an edited scene that is a second or so shorter, as you can just click and drag your music back into line! Wonderful!

Check the listing on Steinbergs site for the things that do and don't work in 64-bit - I agree with DG that it seems still a little too early to risk it.

As an alternative to the Lynx, the RME HDSP range of PCIe cards are fantastic, and the 64-bit drivers have been around for a long time, both XP x64 and Vista x64
