  • Upgrading VI's and libraries

    In the readme for the upgrade of the special edition 080410 it says: Important note: The content which should be updated has to be loaded into "Directory Manager". How do you do that? All paths are properly filled in, but that does not seem to be enough because no file gets udated. Cheers, Bob.

  • That happened to me, too  - then I realized that the update itself wasn't new (from Jan I think) but only the updater, which has been re-released a few days ago to be compatible withthe latest VI software.

    In other words I think no files were updated in both our cases because we had already updated them.

    That is my theory anyway - I could be wrong!

    EDIT> it appears this theory IS wrong :) ... see posts further down.

  • Hi,

    the new library updaters demand the latest version of the Vienna Instruments or Vienna Ensemble installed, due some changes in the architecture of the Directory Manager. As documented in the sub-headline, that says:

    Attention: You need the latest versions of the Vienna Instruments / Vienna Ensemble software installed on your system to run the new Library Updates. [;)]

    Best,

    Paul

    So if I have the latest versions of VI/ VE3 installed and I still get the message '0 files were updated' does that mean they were already up to date?

  •  Hi,

    actually no, as files are updated anyway, even if they have been updated before.

    Remember that you need the latest updates AND the latest software to make the upates work!!

    Paul

  • Thanks for clearing that up Paul, in that case I am wrong in my assumption above and in the same position as the original poster - when I run the updater I get '0 files were updated' at the end.

    VI v2 build 3173

    VE3 build 3173

    G5 d1.8

    10.4.11

    I even checked to see if the updates were for parts of the SE which I don't yet own but I've just checked and I definitely have those patches.

    Grateful for any help!

  • Orchestralala,

    I just tried to find out a little more, but I only find the registration xxx xxx as a name when I enter your forum name. Very original.

    Please let me know which update we are talking about, so that I can check.

    Thanks,

    Paul

    What can I say? - my parents were children of the 60's [:)]

    But seriously - This is my anti spam/ forum posting username for Firefox (due to the text formatting issues in Safari which is what I use when I'm not posting comments here)  ... I'll PM you my VSL user info if you need to look into things.

    The update is fixes to SE and dated 10th April '08 .. although in the 'read me' file the fixes themsleves seem to be dated 31st Jan '08

    Thanks for looking into it.

  • and Paul,

    I got the same message saying 0 file were updated...

    So,

    I read a thread by CM saying that if you already have updated your file with

    the last update (Lib-Update_90_Special-Edition_080131-OSX)

    ITS OK ! ???

    Hope to help?

    I realize that this thread is over two years old, but I'm having this problem as well and this thread was the lone result from my Google search. Here's what I'm running...

    OS X 10.6.3
    Vienna Instruments 4.0.5740
    Lib-Update_90_Special-Edition_080708-OSX

    Also, my sample library is installed on an external hard drive (and correctly added via Directory Manager).

    ...but I'm still receiving a "0 files were updated" notification. Was this ever resolved after "1 or 2 days"... or two years? ;)

  • Hello emspace,

    just checked and installed the update with the same configuration that you have (OS X 10.6.3, VI 4.0.5740). Everything went fine.

    Did you check the permissions on your sample content?

    Best,

    Paul

    When I right-click the "100 SpecialEdition" folder on my external drive to "Get Info," there are three users...

    (Me) -> Read & Write
    staff -> Read only
    everyone -> Read only

    Are these correct? (Sorry, I'm a recent OS X convert and still learning things)
