Hi there, I'm interested in purchasing the Vienna Special Edition standard and extended library. However I'm curious to know if this is somehow related to the older opus 1+2 libraries? Is it the same thing with a different name, and updated version, or something new altogether?

I'd really appreciate anyone who can lend me their knowledge!

Thanks,

Peter

Dear Peter,

I own both but I don't know exactly what you mean by related.

VSE is a VST instrument with its own propriety user interface, a very well designed one, in which you can load the samples. Opus is a sample library for which you need a seperate sampler application (like Gigastudio). I find the interface a step-up from the Performance Tool/Midi Router combination you had to use before (although I must say I haven't used Opus for long until I switched to VSE).

If you mean there is a relation between the samples in the two libaries: I remember recognizing many samples as they do sound the same so I guess they reused a lot of the samples (lets face it: the quality of the samples was never the problem, was it?

VSE is really meant to be run from within a sequencer so you really need a VST compatible (PC) or RTAS, AU (Mac) sequencer if you want to use it optimally. But it is also possible to run it standalone.

But remember that when you use VSE standalone, it has no built-in effects like reverb (coming from GigaStudio that was something I had to get used to) and there is no way to add other vst-plugins.

Thanks for the info Vince, I was kind of wondering whether they used exactly the same sample library. You are right though, Vienna samples haven't really ever had a quality issue from the material I've heard.

Anyway, I've decided to purchase special edition and maybe move from SE to SE plus or Vienna cube.. Does anyone know the upgrade costs for these upgrade paths?

Thanks again Vince!

 Hi Peter,

coming from the Special Edition you can always add the Special Edition PLUS - as these are additional samples, there is no upgrade path.

If you decide to get the Special Edition Bundle (Standard Libraries) right away, you will save quite some money.

You will receive discounts on the "big" VI Collections that contain samples from the Special Edition. As this is a flexible system, there are a lot of options. Please email with your questions, I donĀ“t want to cause any confusion in the forum with australian $ prices!

Hope that helps!

Best,

Paul

Hi Paul, Thanks for your response. I've already purchased Special Edition already, as the chamber strings and appasionatta are something I want to try first, and believe will be useful even with limited articulations. I will wait till I receive it and register it, then ask about upgrade paths if they're not already in the user area.

Thanks again!

Peter

 Hi Peter,

you will see "your price" on all products on the Product pages of the given VI Collections (not in the User Area).

Best,

Paul
