  • Vienna Suite presets

Few presets are included with Vi suite setup, I expected to find presets for each instrument in the orchestra, specially the power pan and equalizer plug-ins. Any comments from VSL staff?

  • As Paul has mentioned earlier, we'll be adding more presets, so this will be a growing database.
    Cheers, Martin

  • Equalizer contains already over 150 factory presets, and more to come.

Power Pan, there are too many options how to place instruments in a room, and it doesn't make sense to deliver here presets

    without a dedicated reverb included.

It depends on the orchestra size, room size, instrumentation etc.

I think to make panning settings for any arrangement is pretty easy and fast forward.

  •  Will Power Pan become useless with the arrival of MIR?

You won't need it for stereo-placement within MIR, of course, but for example for swapping left and right channel of a piano, a xylophone or the like, if this fits into your mix better.

Apart from that, you can still use PowerPan outside MIR, of course. 😊

  • Dietz, I'm still unclear about the Power Pan plug, and I wonder if you could explain it to me. What does it do that either VE or Nuendo can't? Thanks for any explanation.

  • I have the same question as Daryl as I think this Power Pan feature is a HUGE problem/solution feature that many will want to have. Using a compass analogy, are you able to position a VI or other program Left/Right and North/South? Or like that product from Wallender Instuments, WIVI, can you position the instrument at any point on the stage? I hope I'm being clear in my question. This is very exciting so I'm looking forward to reading your answer.

It is the North/South question that I really want answered. Left/right and narrowing stereo width already works well in both Nuendo and VE.

  • No back/front, just left/right, plus the optional control of the loudness of each side, regardless of its position within the stereo-field. See it as the flexible combination of old-school "balance" (á la Logic) and proper, independant panning.

  • Have to admit, I'm struggling to see the difference between this and (in my case) Logic's Direction Mixer plug. Are there any fundamental differences; can it achieve results that no other plug can?

  • You've picked the one sequencer where the Power Panning plug is really needed.....! There are various thread to read, but my understanding is that as soon as you narrow the stereo width in Direction Mixer, you lose the ability to pan properly.

  • I wasn't aware of that - have to do some research. Thanks DG

  • Hi Dietz, Any word on MIR timing? Christmas is approaching and Santa is asking what I want under the tree. I said MIR but not sure if it will be available. What should I tell Santa?
