  • FR: Show sample mapping on VI's keyboard

can we have it? especially for percussion patches it would be great to see which keys have been mapped to what.

Referencing pdfs is not quick enough, and even though there is some consistency in mapping, there's no way to remember the differences.

  • Good suggestion Abel.

I agree. This would be very useful.

  •  Seconded - as Abel says, it would be useful to see at a glance where percussion samples are mapped, especially with instruments (like the Burma Bell) that don't use too many samples.

  •  Something like this would be useful, as you say, especially with percussion. Maybe the mapped keys could be a light gray.

Another useful feature might be to show in another colour the keyswitch keys (as is in GVI and Gigastudio)

At the moment I'm re-arranging music I did using the Pro library to the VI library, and in several instances the perucssion is now mapped to different keys. It would be usefull at least to see which keys have a sample mapped to them.

  •  I agree that showing the percussion mapping might be helpful. However, even if the keys were shaded you'd still have to remember what the shades referred to.

As far as keyswitches are concerned this would not be a useful feature IMO, because the whole beauty of the VI system is that you are not limited to what keyswitches you can use.

  •  True, being able to place the keyswitches where you want is great.

However, being able to see at a glance on the keyboard where you've placed them would be useful too, if you've moved them from their default position

I'm not sure that this would help me, none of my keyswitches would fit on the GUI keyboard.

I also think that this is just one more layer of complications in the VI player, as every time a keyswitch changed (and there could be horizontal as well as vertical keyswitches) the view would also have to change.

  • ...still, may be of some use to those of us who don't know our E7s from our E8s[8-)]...especially if the active keyswitch was highlighted.

Or even, only the active one.
