  • Custom or Edited "A/B Select" for patches?

    Greetings VSL users!

I'm trying to match up my keyswitches across all my VSL libraries and noticed the App Strings have a wonderful way of switching to the port sus samples - with the A/B Select.  I have it set to the sustain pedal and it makes it SO easy to choose when the port plays vs. the regular legato.

My question is this - is there a way to set this up with the Strings I and II libraries as well?  I can't figure out how to "turn on" the A/B switch and load a patch, or edit the patch in the A/B switch.  Is this intentionally locked by VSL or is there a way to get to it?

    Thanks,

    Jason

  • Hello Jason,

the A/B Switch only works with patches that have this feature implemented.

  • Hey Jason - nice idea routing the a/b port switch to the sustain pedal.  Do you have the 'port' ON when the sus pedal is depressed?  If so how did you set that up so that the port is only playing when the pedal is depressed (or do you have to depress the pedal each time you want to go back and forth.)

    Thanks in advance.

  • I set up the legato and port cells as usual (just two cells next to each other), except instead of using keyswitches or mod wheel cc to switch I use cc64.  Since it's either off (0-63) or on (64-127) I have the "normal" setting for cc64 (pedal up) set to legato and the "on" setting for cc64 (pedal down) set to port.  This only works since both are monophonic samples, but it makes it really easy to implement the port hands-free, without any extra knobs or sliders to tweak.

    Hope this helps.

  • Paul,

Thanks for the quick reply.  Maybe this is a feature that could be implemented in later versions?  I would love to be able to customize the A/B switch for all my sounds.  The VSL interface is so powerful - it seems this is the only thing that CAN'T be tweaked.

    Thanks!

    Jason

  • Of course Jason that would be the best way.   Many thanks for the tip.  Nice one.

    All the best,

    Rob

  • I wonder about that myself many time too, I usually stack 2 kind of strings in 1 cell (App Strings and Solo Strings) but the portamento will be conflict between the 2... so yes, be able to manually edit A/B is great! Hope VSL will add this feature in the next update. Cheers! Sonny
