  • VE3 Stand alone only?

    Hi folks,

I am a bit confused. I currently run VE2 in Bidule on a 64 bit ystem but want to upgrade to VE3. For some reason I get the impression VE3 is stand alone only and cannot be used in a host application like Bidule. Is this true or did I get it all wrong? : ) Thanks!

    Charles

  • VE3 can be used as a plugin on the same machine as the host application or on a machine connected via gigabit LAN. Watch the 'Introducing VE3' video for details.

  • Yes, Thanks Martin - I have seen that video. It does not show VE3 on the slave machine as a plugin in a host (like Bidule which I use) but rather as multiple instances as a stand alone. Probably concerned over nothing, but I want to use it in Bidule so I can access other VSTs (Play) and am a little concerned that the LAN might not work going through Bidule, I suppose the only way to know is to try.....

The networking will not run through Bidule. VE3 acts as a remote plugin within your sequencer, so it can only be used to host Vienna Instruments. It is not strictly speaking running standalones, as all plugin instances share the same memory space.

  • DG - Thanks for the confirmation. I suspected that this was the case and it makes perfect sense. You have saved me much time and this is greatly appreciated.

As for me, the solution short-term is to stay with VST VE2 (VE stand alone and Bidule cannot properly run simultaneously as far as I can tell) until I can get a third computer for VE3.

    Cheers,

  • DG - I just thought of another question: Will VE3 run on a slave computer as a remote plugin while Bidule is also running? I suspect that the reason I cannot run VE2 and Bidule simultaneously is because they are sharing the same resources (RME 9652 for MIDI and audio). If VE3 uses LAN for MIDI and audio resource, might I be able to operate VE3 on my slave as a remote plugin for my master computer and Bidule on the same slave ( for non-VI products) simultaneously?  I have the latest i7 PC configuration so power is not a problem...I'd really appreciate any advice on this thought. Thanks.

This is theoretically possible. However, I suspect that you will just have to try it and see for yourself.

I can confirm that this has been working fine for me, although I don't do it very often so I'm not sure how robust it might be.
