I updated recently to the latest version.  I noticed that every click of the interface is followed by a bit of lag before it registers.  I also see a fairly subsantial CPU spike (around 35-50%) by the "VSL-Server" process.  This didn't used to happen.  Anyone else experiencing this, or have any idea what might be causing it?

Could you please be so kind and give us details about your setup? (computer model, RAM, sequencer, audio interfaces etc.)

Regards,

Sorry, I always space out that step.  Mac Pro, quad core 2.66GHz, 5GB RAM, OS 10.5.6.

I reported the exact same problem on my Mac Pro 10.5 Logic 8 a few weeks ago! Hopefully they're working on a fix!

I figured it might've been a software issue with the VI plugin and/or server.  The previous version had no problems.  Then I upgraded, and bam... laggy user interface.  I didn't think it was my Mac, as I keep it super organized & clean, no excess garbage on it, etc.  It runs really smoothly.

Not only since upgrading have I experienced the same results as you stated, but even more so I get random instruments playing notes I don't even have in the score.  Worked perfectly, then upgraded to newest version and it all fell apart.  I have had to do single parts only now and have to put my DAW in solo mode per track or it does some pretty annoying things.

On my Mac in Logic using VE3 locally it will literally play one part through every channel of Logic.  So with only notes on violins, it will spam all my channels (all 16 that are part of the same VE interface).  I can't even use it atm.  I have to freeze all my tracks to even playback.  When I use VE3 over network, it will play random notes on all my instruments as well.  Basses will punch out a few notes, then cellos, etc even without them having any written notes to play.  It's very bizarre.  For now I have had to save to another project and use single instances of VI just to get parts recorded in for playback.

Good find, Alain.  I hope this bug is ironed out in the next update.

Hi Guys,

Here's another user who can report the laggy interface problem, using pretty much the same set up (MacPro, Quad Core 2.66 Hz, 16Gig Ram, Logic Pro8)  Also, last week when I went to optimize some tracks, I got a spinning beachball freeze just trying to open an interface to instruct it to "learn" for the optimization.  Had to run off for a gig.  Keeping my fingers crossed that when I fire up the system tomorrow I'm not going to plagued with freezes.  That's what my MacBookPro used to do.  This system (I hope) goes a lot further in the clout department.

              Cheers,      Tom

I Have the same laggy interface issue using a Mac pro Quad core with Logic 8.Also, the small yellow "sample loading" window seems to have disappeared-though this may have something to my recent migration to the new machine. The only indication i have of VI loading instruments now is a tiny, tiny dot in the middle of the screen.Just below that is a permanent smudge from my nose....

This issue is still unresolved? (I don't see a software update)

This is also happening to me in Logic 9. I'm using a Mac nehalem 2x 2.93 Ghz Quad Core Intel Xeon w/ 32 GB 1066 MHz DDR3 "Top of the Line Mac".

IN MY LOGIC PRO 7, I CAN'T HEAR ANY SOUND FROM MY VSL INSTRUMENTS WHEN I'M IN THE VSL INTERFACE (SHOW WINDOW). SO EVERYTIME I EDIT OR LOAD PATCHES ON MY VSL, I NEED TO SWITCH BACK TO MY LOGIC SO I CAN LISTEN TO IT. WHAT SEEMS TO BE THE PROBLEM?

Hi,

When the Logic 8 laggy interface first appeared, it simply took a few moments before a command took hold.  Now I get a spinning beach ball EVERY time I enter a command, and the lag time is longer.  Also, when a piece freezes, I'll often get a playback of some fragment, even through the system is frozen.  At first these ghostly little symphonies were amusing.  Now add them to the annoyance of a system that should be running smoothly, but isn't.  I'll be very interested to see if Logic 9 and Snow Leopard address this problem.

   Cheers,   Tom
