• Impromptu for 2 pianos

Here's a short piece for 2 pianos (needing pianists with big hands :) )

    Impromptu for 2 pianos http://www.guybacos.com/audio/Impromptu%20for%202%20pianos.mp3

    Piano: Vienna Imperial

    Mix: Vanessa Garde Luque

Please leave your comments. Thanks for listening.

  • Anyone?[:O]

  •  The sound is a little strange to me, as the two pianos sound acoustically isolated yet also stuck together right to left.  Also, when the large amount of pedaling stops after the slow intro, the sound seems  basically different, perhaps as a result of switching to the non-pedal samples?  I think maybe having the two pianos seems to need them being farther back in the "stage"  with more ambience blending them (though still being able to hear the separate sources), especially recalling hearing some two piano concerts where you cannot get very close to the huge grand pianos.

But that is a very small thing compared to the music -  fantastic!  I love this piece.  It is simply brilliant musically.  This needs to be with some other movements on a CD.  Perhaps a sonata?   Anyway, it is great music.  I am sounding like a broken record saying that with Guy's music I guess, but can't help it...

I couldn't agree more William. The left right stereo pan is too wide for one thing and yes, I guess because I used the player perspective there is that strange transition effect from wet to pretty dry leading into the middle section. These are things I will fix in a re-mix in the next days. Thanks for listening and your kind words!

Thank you Alex. Glad to know you liked it. 😊

  • I agree it is a different-sounding composition in some ways - the harmony is more "daring" ? There are some very interesting things going on this piece and some very advanced harmonies.  I do think an entire CD of this music would be great, not just burying it in some film score or library.  There are many nuances in the composition and performance, and I noticed a richness with the two pianos creating almost an environment of piano sound.  A piano orchestra almost.  That is something that music for more than one piano tends to do (if it is good) - not just create something more contrapuntally complicated than one pianist can play, but create a SOUND, a timbre that comes from the massing of piano timbres.  I remember hearing a piece for four pianos at a concert once, and it was huge and almost frightening in its massiveness.

  • Thanks for your in depth post William. I appreciate your encouragement in doing more. The last and only other time I had written a piece for 2 pianos was in the course of my studies at McGill University, it was performed nicely, but the composition was nothing to write home about, my friends were actually disappointed and frankly I had rushed through it, at the time I was distracted by a girl.....   So this reconciliates me with 2 piano music and now has become a boost to do more of that genre :)
