  • VE 3: Two Ethernet Ports to increase bandwidth?

    Dear VSL Community,

I'm simply wondering if anyone has done this, or knows about the possibilities here. If I could decrease latency by purchasing a switch capable of link aggregation, I will do so!

(Other terms for link aggregation include "Ethernet trunk", "NIC teaming", "port channel", "port teaming", "port trunking", "link bundling", "EtherChannel", "Multi-Link Trunking (MLT)", "NIC bonding", "Network Fault Tolerance (NFT)".)

and here is an article on it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Link_aggregation

    Thanks a mil!

  • If you own a Mac it is included in MAC OS X 10.5

  • And if one of your machines is a PC, you can purchase a server NIC from 3com or someone reputable it will come with the ability to group them.  It does improve performance on servers etc so I don't see why it wouldn't improve your performance as well.

Thing is, first of all do you find yourself even needing to do that?  Are you that close to bottle necking or is this just some crazy (but cool) thought you're having?

It might be beneficial for someone who's reached their max, but for me I am not even close to maxing mine yet.  (although when MIR is networkable and we're able to use VE3 Pro for our other samples maybe that will change).
