Hallo everybody

Tomorrow I'll have my new Mac Notebook! I've worked on a G5 Quad untill now. So, a few question...

1- At the moment I have the VSL Solo Strings Samples in the G5 second internal HD. To work with the Notebook I'll have to put them in an external HD (firewire 800). If I make a copy of all the samples from G5 to the Firewire HD will this be accepted or there will be some kind of problem?

2- Untill now I've been working with Vienn Instrument and Logic 8. I'm thinking to get the VE but it's not very clear to me what would change in my work flow. And what's the difference between VE free and VE pro (not talking about the price of course).

3- Is it worthy to have two VSL Key (one for the G5 and one for the Notebook), even if not strictly necessary? I'm somehow afraid that some TERRIBLE think might happens moving the Key from on computer to the oher. A friend of mine has been transformed in a frog.

...but maybe I'm confusing two different hystoryes

Thanks a lot for the help

Roberto

There should be no problem backing up the library and moving it to another machine..... Two things to keep in mind:

1. Run your Directory Managers-- and 2. It is necessary to have a Vienna Key (or Synchrosft/eLicense dongle) for each computer.

(And no, none of your friends will be turned to frogs!! Big Smile )

You will have to buy the second dongle and then use the eLicenser software to transfer the license for your Solo Strings to it. It's very simple to do, although it only sounds complicated the first time.

I have Brass and Percussion on a G5 slave and the entire library on my Intel MacPro. When I only want to use one machine, I put both Vienna Keys into my Mac Pro to have access to a few sounds from the entire library when two machines are not needed. For larger projects, I'll put the Brass/Percussion dongle back into the slave machine to run both machines together.

VE3 and VE Pro will allow you to connect the two computers together using only an ethernet *crossover* cable. This is the simplest connection one can make with two machines, but make sure it's a *crossover* cable and not a standard ethernet *network* cable. Both audio and MIDI are transferred without the need for a second audio or MIDI interface. It's a very elegant utility and it works amazingly well. It greatly simplifies managing your VSL instances.

Note: If you want to use VE Pro, it is important that OSX is v.10.5 or better. VE3 works well in 10.4.x.

Best of luck!

It's not necessary to get an extra key if you're just using the VSL samples on one machine. Just make sure you have installed the LCC on the new machine and use the same key.

Or have I misunderstood what you're planning?

OK, I've done it! I have now my VI with Solo Strings and Donwload Intruments in my new MacBookPro and it works perfectly. When I'll go back to G5 I gues I only have to move the Key there. Am I right?

Other thing is if I want to use one of the two Mac as slave computer. Then I need a double key, right? But for this I'll wait a moment.

Working on MBP I have a problem that I didn't have before with the G5 and the double monitor. When I have VI hopened in Logic and I have to set all the Controlers parameters to switch articulations (I do it in Hyper Editor), as soon as I clic on a Logic  window the VI instrument disappear and when I have VI window activated I can't work on Logic. With to monitors the problem doesn't exit  (it's enough to put the VI window on the second screen) but now with only one screen it's really difficult. Is there any solution for this. I don't want to imagine going around with a second screen on my suitcase. Can Vienna Ensemble help on this?

Any idea?

Thanks a lot

Roberto

Hi Roberto,

that´s how it works with the Vienna Instruments/Vienna Ensemble - it´s a separate application that connects to your sequencer - if you click on the VI/VE window, it´s like changing to, e.g, Word.... you are working in a different program.

Once you have customized your presets, this will be much easier, as you probably already know (and hear) what´s happening in the VI/VE.

Best,

Paul

Indeed, if you are only using VSL on one machine, then one Vienna Key will suffice on that machine.

I guess it was assumed that since two machines would be in use that both would be running VSL samples. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
