    Don't laugh! hehe! ...I'm wondering if my old pentium 4 2.8 GHZ, 2 GB ram would be enough as my DAW.  Assuming all audio(VSTi) and processing is done on my 3 xeon slaves via VE Pro of course? I want to load big orchestral templates and have enough ram for this on my slave but I'm worried my P4 won't be powerfull enough even if all samples/VST/VSTi is done on my salves. I'm probably right right?

    My main sampler is Kontakt and, i use 16 bit samples only(if that makes any difference).

    I'm wondering this too. I two Giga machines and would like to see if their useful life could be extended by VE Pro.....

    Can a Pentium 4 handle the software if they have Gigabit ethernet?

    O.K. I know the recommended spec is a core duo and i assume this spec is for the server(slave) PC where the VSTi are used, Does that mean my old P4 2.8 GHZ could be enough as my DAW(master)? Just so long as i don't play samples on my master?

    I guess I'm pushing it with my old P4 but I'd like to be sure.

    VE Pro works well on both P4 3.0Ghz 2Go RAM .. of course, you can't have a full orchestra but I can up to around 9-10, sometimes more, instruments per computer

    But i wonder, do you have FXs on these instruments? Do you have like 1  IR verb per instrument or something like that? Or do you use reverb from you host?

    heres my two cents. i am no IT pro, but i've got a setup that works for me. AFAIK, RAM speed and CPU is not very important. This is probably because of how incredibly well the people at VSL have programmed their libraries and audio engines. I have a Pentium-D with 8GB DDR2-800 that has about 7GB of samples loaded 24/7, and it hardly ever uses the processing power. My i7 host on the other hand, utilizes a good amount of processing speed in order to achieve low latency with VE Pro, run a huge amount of audio plugins and reverbs, and still have juice left over for stability's sake. So its the DAW computer that needs that extra headroom. I built my cheap Pentium for about 300$ plus $100 for the RAM, and its pulling its load very nicely.
