I recently purchased VSL Ensemble Pro and am using DP as my sequencer. I am having a problem getting separate midi outs from DP for each VSL instrument loaded.

For example, I would like to have 1 instance of Omnisphere (loaded in VSL) use 16 channels (let's call it Port 1) and another separate instance use another 16 channels (Port 2). Unfortunately I have become stuck as DP is sending to both instance of Omnisphere simultaneously. Can anyone tell me how to make DP distinguish between the various instruments instances in VSL without having to load another entire VSL instance. Thank you

If you're using the plugin you can only use 1 port. You need to load a separate instance for each 16 MIDI channels you want to use.

Yes DG is correct. It's not because of Digital Performer though- I believe it's a problem with Core Audio, as it will only allow 16 channels of MIDI per plugin at this time. Another VE Pro instance will show up in DP as another plugin, so you can have 16 more channels.

It's to do with the AU spec. VST and RTAS don't have this limitation.

Thanks so much. I was hoping to get around it without another instance, but it appears like the way to go. It seems the best solution would be to set up the midi outs from DP so as to use as many of the 16 midis channels of each VSL instance as possible (or better worded...rearrange each VSL instance to utilize as many midi channels as possible so one doesn't have 1 channel while the other needs 18)

Actually, VST2 and AU only support a single MIDI input port, while VST3 and RTAS do support multiple MIDI input ports.

Ah yes, VST2. I forgot that some people are still using VST2 sequencers, sample players and plugs. Wink
